Jeff Carter’s postgame thoughts…
(on his deflection to Dustin Penner for the game-winning goal…)
CARTER: “I was trying to get it somewhere around there. I knew it was coming to my skates. … I was trying to direct it to that area, back-post somewhere. I knew Pens was driving there, so it worked out pretty good. The stick wasn’t working too well tonight, so it’s a good thing the skate was.’’
(on the game…)
CARTER: “It was good. We came out with a good start. With a lot of penalties there, it kind of messed up the flow of the game a little bit. I thought we were up and down throughout the game. In the third, we kind of sat back a bit, but we got the job done and we still know that we’ve got better.’’
(on whether some players’ playoff experience helped in the game…)
CARTER: “I think that’s playoff hockey. You can’t get frustrated. You can play a great game and you go into the last minute tied. That’s just the way playoff hockey goes. Obviously Mike and I have played in the playoffs, but we have guys who have won, who have gone far in the playoffs too. There’s a lot of experience in this room, and that definitely helps.’’
