Kings skate update

No surprises or changes coming out of the Kings’ morning skate. Jonathan Quick is scheduled to start in goal. Kevin Westgarth did extra skating today, so he’s slotted to be a scratch. Just like last game, Davis Drewiske is likely to take pregame warmups. More notes and quotes to come, including some pointed comments from Darryl Sutter about Jonathan Quick and how much praise he receives, compared to Antti Niemi. Sutter, it seems, is trying to motivate his goalie a bit…

thats god news..Hope Quick is a wall today he going to need to..What is wrong with Voynov??Why do the Kings need to keep having DD#44 in warmups?

I didnt see anything wrong with Vyonov or didnt even think he was wrong that game…

I say rest him if he injured Kings still in the playoffs..Kings will probability choke on this game anyways since all they do is talk and talk but dont back up their talk.

I notices this last year when they talked abotu 4th place and lost both games against the Ducks…Now its happening again this time the Sharks…Yea Sharks are a hard team but still i believe we Can beat these guys at least one of the game..

Chicago had a breakaway in the last 10 seconds of OT against Detroit but no one on the Wings bench even attempted to reach over the board with a stick and disrupt the play. Don’t they know the new rules?

@Paul G, Good point. They don’t have to worry about that in San Jose.

    Duncanz Reply:

@40YearKingsFan, No, they did exactly the same thing and blatantly hooked him from behind – but the whistles were firmly pocketed!
Not much difference for me – except hockey culture accepts it.
In ‘other sports’ it’s a penalty AND a red card. Which means your team completes the game short(handed) a man.

Yeah, but to be fair, soccer’s stupid.

Hey, how much you want to bet The Kings get a retaliation penalty this game without actually retaliating for last game?

I was hoping that Westgarth would dress. There needs to be some sort of response to Clowe and his antics. No to mention
most of Thorton’s gutless moves. Oh well….

@Ryan Durham, I’m with you on that one. I figured with Phoenix winning last night and probably going the beat the Wild, we don’t have as much to play for. I really wanted to see Westy pound Clowe and Thornton.

Clowe needs a couple of more missing teeth after this game…maybe from a stick off the bench……..

@Kings ’93, Trouble is we’d get an extra two minutes ‘cos you’d need a ’93 style curved blade to reach around that nose of his!

The most important thing for the game tonight is that the Kings play sound hockey. We’ll see after the PHX game if it’s for the division or not but regardless they need to play a steady road game and stay on an even keel going into the playoffs.

I have a feeling that Phoenix is going to let up tonight and Minnesota will pick up the win at home. They actually have been playing pretty well lately. Anyway, even if Phoenix wins, I’d much rather be in the 2,3,6, 7 bracket than be stuck with Vancouver, Nashville and Detroit so big game tonight in any event…

How about that Hands of Stone Brown? Who would of thought he was such a stud from the knuckleheaded people that wanted to trade him?

Dangit I was hoping to see Westie in the lineup today so he could take on clown bs

    [Reply]

    Ryan Durham Reply:

@KingFanatic08, That what I was hoping for too. Might need King and/or Nolan to drop them tonight. Seriously though, Lombardi needs to think about team toughness going into next year and beyond, a la Rangers and Bruins. Not goons, but tough guys who play quality minutes.

Tonight I hope we play a high caliber game.

No revenge, no cheap shots, no fights, just show them that their antics did not get to us at all.

    [Reply]

    Gustavo Reply:

    @Mars,

The high road rarely works with cheaters and cheap shot artists, specially when the refs swallow their whistles and the bushwack ‘beer league’ leadership condones blatant acts of dishonesty and cheating by its players.

You have to beat them at their own game. Beat them as in ‘beat them to a pulp’, clobber them, nail them every time the touch the puck, face wash and punch them every one of them immediately after play stops each and every time they’re within three feet of our goalie, stab them with your stick every time they try to hold when they tangle you.

Bummer that Westy is not dressing. None of the Kings can fight Clowe. not even Green.

    Man,
The OT in Detroit just has to get’ya pumped about playoff hockey coming up.

Yotes-Wild final coming @ or before puck drop just adds to the intensity of this game tonight. 1,3,7 & 8 seeds still to be decided.

Despite the wacko SOL thurs. night, I think the Kings did the unexpected down the stretch (9-2-2) and no matter what happens tonight – it’s PLAYOFF TIME. No matter the outcome of Yotes-Wild, no matter if Kings lose tonight season resets next week.

The important thing tonight is to show some poise. Kings got drawn in to a penalty-filled mess with a team that they should have BURIED before period 2 even started Thurs.

Bloggers here, as always, will have their undies-in-a-bunch if we don’t win tonight – so be it.
On the other hand, all the happy-campers will be jacked up with a win even if it only produces a 7th seed.

Playoffs are about Goal Tending (we’ve got that). Depth/Health (much better this year). Best Players (best players have to be your best players) and Special Teams (oh well, we’ll see).
And POISE. I really wanna bury these guys after the Thurs. mess, but keep your eyes on the prize boys. Just out play your opponent tonight ! (If by chance, we can inflict a little extra payback then… hmm, that would be real welcome if ya know what I mean. After all, this is the bully and it ain’t Baseball).

What we need this year is at LEAST a round one victory and we can get that.
    We can beat the Hawks.
We can beat half the sisters and whose in goal ?
We might even beat the Blues if…well, we win 4 before they do.

Dance starts a little early tonight… like about 5pm or so.

    Flyers 1 – Penguins 1 First Intermission

Another example of a team of cheaters (Pens) and dishonest players (Crossby / Malkin / Vitale). I’d not be surprised to see someone taking out Crossby permanently during this game or the playoffs. As a team and an organization, they have been pushing the limits beyond what other teams are willing to accept.

Matt Cooke has stopped his antics, but 3 or 4 other pen players have picked up where he left off.

Regardless of what Phoenix does, the Kings need a solid effort and to remember to play their game and not get drawn into dumb penalties and fights. Our team doesn’t match up well with other teams’ physical toughness so they have to be mentally tougher. All those fights from the last game only motivated the Sharks while we got our a**es kicked.

The trouble with today’s game, you cannot use guys like Westie anymore to equal a score.
Coaches, Management and players risk suspensions big time or large fines.

Bettman has killed the North American hockey game. He has turned it into exactly what he has planned to do,
    fast European game.
The Broad Street bullies or tough players from the past would never allow this to happen without some type of answer to Clowe’s brainless play. So bush, he should be playing Senior Hockey in the Quebec League.

    thanks Gary B you knob………..
