Thursday skate update

Darryl Sutter wouldn’t commit to whether Slava Voynov would play tonight. Voynov was a full participant in today’s morning skate, a day after me missed practice. Yesterday, Sutter said Voynov was “banged up” but would play tonight. Asked directly, after today’s skate, about Voynov’s status, Sutter said, “You’ll have to see. I’m not going to lie to you and I’m not going to give you any secrets either.” Welcome to playoff-like injury reports…

Jeff Carter skated for about 20 minutes. Afterward, Carter indicated that he wouldn’t practice tomorrow but said he thought he would be ready for the start of a playoff series (assuming there is one for the Kings).

Jonathan Quick is tonight’s starting goalie and Kevin Westgarth is slated to be scratched. Davis Drewiske will likely skate in warmups and would play if Voynov can’t go.

It’s that time of year… I think we will miss VV a lot if he can’t play, but we have a solid d-core. They might be a bit more tentative about activating though.

    Oh.. and FIRST!!!

@Dilapidus, this sharks team is going to be hungry and out to prove something tonight. VV gives us that added dimesion on the PP and offense. Losing carter has been enough and the Kings are going to need to be at full strength to have their best chance. I still think they are going to win at least one of these games, but I said that last year against the Ducks too.

@tornado12, Well, ALL the Kings players need to up their emotions tonight. I’m sure the Sharks will.

Also, the Kings had better go into HIGH octane offense tonight instead of that DEFENSIVE shell they STARTED with against the Bruins and the Blues. START the game with a HEAVY offensive punch!!

Is this a Jack Johnson curse? Two guys who replace him are ailing. Ah, it’s all hands on deck this time of year and I can’t wait for 7:30 tonight.

    @Press Box Scratch,
The two guys that replaced jack also are huge reasons we will likely make the playoffs. I don’t see that as a curse.

@Press Box Scratch, if Saturday’s game turns into a must win you can bet we’ll see Carter and Voynov playing.

    We will Voynov tonight.

@rick, The whole kings organization is playing for 1st in the division. If Voynov doesn’t play it’s because DS is afraid of the Sharks targeting him and we don’t need him permately injured right now. San Jose has some big guys and voy. is still in need of some bulk and size. Drew can fill in fine he’s desperate to be full time and wants to be a reason we get 1st. You can bet Douglas Murray and thorton are going to be hitting tonight but intimadation is not going to work.

Notice that the poll does not even list the Kings as a potential eighth seed. How good does that feel?

    Jeff_R Reply:

@Dilapidus, I’m kinda surprised they don’t even list Colorado in that poll. They still have a shot at 8th.

Not skating. They haven’t “packed it in” but they’re not skating now. No change in status at all.

Did Sutter hint at who’s singing the anthem tonight. The Kings responded well to Davis Gaines’ broadway rendition of the anthems the other night. My vote goes to him tonight.

I bet some of it (with VV) might even come down to the Dallas game beforehand. If Dallas is losing (lost) maybe they sit and rest VV and that is why DD will take warm ups…but if Dallas wins or looks like they are going to win, maybe VV plays to try to at least secure a playoff spot. I want 3rd, but I would take 7-8th if it means we can get a rested and healthy JC and VV.

Since we won’t get to hear our announcing team during the playoffs wouldn’t it be friggin awesome if the Kings organized a playoff watch party where Bob and Jim did a live play-by-play and color? The away games could be shown on the big screen at Staples while Bob and Jim announced from the press box. I’d pay to see that. Maybe home games could be done in some ball room close to Staples. Just set up the same camera feeds for Bob and Jim and let ‘em rip.

    Jeff_R Reply:

@370455VinSD, Up until the Finals or Conference Finals I believe Fox Sports West has the rights to the games and the NBC networks will be blacked out. The Finals is a different story.

    370455VinSD Reply:

@Jeff_R, The Finals are what I would really want to see like that. Hell they could charge like $20/person and donate it to Kings Care Foundation. I would easily pay that to hear Bob say “and the Kings are Stanley Cup Champions!”

I ask this to the Kings….Will you START tonights game PREVENTING to loose like the Bruins or Blues game a couple weeks ago or you start the game TO WIN????

    [Reply]

    bbb7 Reply:

@rogiesbackup, I think they’ve been pretty assertive in all their games over the past month. In the Bruins game, they DID outshoot the Bruins 15-11 in the first period; the Blues did box them in pretty well in the first, but the Kings responded in the 2nd and 3rd.

Just be aggressive in the first and match the physical play.

@rogiesbackup, Their reply “if you were paying attention we beat the #1 team in the NHL (at that time) a few weeks ago when we played the blues”

    twnclick Reply:

@Lake Forest, I was at that game both goalies were hot and no one was going to score. Quick is playing better than Nemi or whatever his name is. Goalie advantage Kings. PK advantage Kings. Clean playing avantage Kings. Home ice advantage Kings. Both are having power play issues but tonight the kings click.

Looking forward to losing my voice (again) at Staples tonight. The game vs Edmonton earlier this week was intense. you could feel the playoff electricity in the air. Heck, I even won a voucher for a weekend stay at a 5 star resort, lol.

Today it will be magnified a thousand fold. Nothing more suitable than a clinching of a playoff spot on Fan Appreciation Night at Staples.
