Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts…
(on still being confident going into the third period 0-0…)
QUICK: “Absolutely. We were doing everything right. We were outplaying them. You’ve got to tip the cap to Dubnyk over there. He made some terrific saves to keep them in it there for two periods. Slav had a heavy shot there that was able to find its way in. It kind of took a little pressure off everybody. We did a great job the whole game, as far as defensive zone and not giving them much. Our PK was huge, with that double minor that we had to face in the third. We got what we came here for, two points.’’
(on Edmonton not getting a shot during that long power play…)
QUICK: “Yeah, I noticed that. [grins] We did a great job. Maybe once or twice there, they were even able to set up, and we kind of shut down everything that they wanted to get going.’’
(on getting the job done against non-playoff teams…)
QUICK: “Yeah, but at the time, Calgary, they might not have been in the top eight but they were in the same situation we were. So that was like a playoff-like game. But yeah, these last three, mathematically they’re out but they’re still talented teams. They bring a lot to the table. They’re playing loose. They have nothing to lose. They’re just out there, some are fighting for jobs for next year. Everybody has their own reason to play. Just because they’re not in the playoffs doesn’t mean they’re not going to bring a strong game.’’
Love ya :p
always a team player, congrats on the record breaker

@jeffreyryan, A regulation win, on Thursday night clinches a playoff spot no matter what else happens, as that put the Kings at 95 points, and with SJS losing that game, either they or Dallas, depending upon the outcome of tomorrows game at DAL won’t be able to get to 95 points even if its, a 3 point game. However if CBJ wins in regulation In PHX tomorrow night, and SJS wins in DAL, tomorrow night, then that regulation win @ Staples on Thursday Night vs, the SJS clinches the Pacific Division title.

@#unclewillyson, We didn’t win a playoff series with Quick because we had a stubborn coach who didn’t understand the balance between playing defense and also playing offense.

@tacomakingsfan, Quick probably needs to win the 2 remaining games fairly spectacularly to do it, and you don’t know how many people have already voted for King Henrick Lundqvist. He has 3 more wins than than JQ, and his team might win the President’s trophy, along with the East Coast bias, when so many voters, don’t watch games played in the western time zones. If people wait until after Saturday’s games to vote 12 shutouts, and a 2nd string of 3 consecutive, might be a hard resume to overlook, since the Save percentages, and the GAA would favor Quick as well. Corey perry, did win the hart with a late rush last year, but he beat out another player from the Pacific Time zone, in taking out a Sedin twin, so don’t think, that means the east coast bias has finally ended.

@bbb7, As long as SJS wins it doesn’t matter. Stars are @ 89 points, if they are @ 90 points with 2 games to play, they max out @ 94. We need to beat SJS in Regulation, Thursday to Clinch a spot in the Playoffs no matter that outcome. Which would mean SJS maxes out at 94 points as well. The Cherry on top, is a regulation loss by PHX tomorrow, and then the Regulation win Thursday by the Kings @ Staples, doesn’t just clinch a playoff spot, but the Pacific Division title. They only team with a tiebreaker edge on the Kings in the division is the Stars with their ROW hence the reason to root for an SJS win tomorrow night, which denis DAL 2 points, and puts the Team, we can deny points to, higher up in the standings, than a team we can’t deny points to. On the scale of things to root for, in the CBJ-PHX game tomorrow night, a regulation loss by PHX, any loss by PHX, a SO win, to give us a ROW advantage, as well as the head to head advantage. DAL’s ROW advantage over the rest of the division, make them the most dangerous team to the Kings, because it can’t be overcome, and we don’t get to play them. At this point our points advantage, and the fact that the 1st game is in LA give us the edge on SJS. If SJS lose in DAL on Tuesday, they might need a regulation sweep, just to make the playoffs.

Quick has gor to love the defense in front of him. They really controlled the game and set up the offensive cycle in the Oilers zone.

Woooo! Too bad the east coast media writers were busy sleeping…Quick has been amazing. People are starting to recognize it
[Reply]
Awesome game, can’t wait for the playoffs to start. No one want to play the Kings. Lots of whining from the Edmonton papers about the refs and calls, boo hoo!
[Reply]
Quick was solid…but, this time he is right in deflecting the credit to his teammates…The kings were excellent all around in this game tonight

Always, always have called Vachon our best goalie in our history … looks like a change of the guard soon. Quick has a great playoffs … gonna have to give it to him early.
[Reply]
Way to go Quick with your shutout last night! The Kings played an excellent game last night. Does this mean if Columbus beats Phoenix in regulation and San Jose beats Dallas in regulation then the Kings make the playoffs? This is what the sportsclubstats claims that will happen.
[Reply]
It would be a crime not to have him at least in the running for the Vezina. I doubt he’d win because of the reasons many have described, but to lead the league in shutouts? To backstop the leagues second best defense? And to almost singlehandedly keep the Kings in contention, putting them on the verge of winning the division when the team was near the bottom in scoring?
There’s no reason he shouldn’t be in the mix.

@vplaza,
If the Vezina goes the the MVP goalie in the league, he’s gotta win for the reasons you mentioned
[Reply]
Quick has the same numbers as Lundqvist and should win the Vesina because he plays in the much better Western conference.
Our top of the league Defense pretty much gave Quick the night off last night, he did not have to do anything. Tip of the hat to Quick for keeping us in it this year.

I’ve always thought of quick as being the anti-superstar. Fantastic on the Ice but uncomfortable in front of the cameras and the media. Now, not only is he our #1 player on the ice, he also gives great interviews and provides well thought out, and complete, answers to reporters.
