Sunday (non-)practice update

Darryl Sutter elected for off-ice workouts and meetings today rather than an on-ice practice.

As written yesterday, Jeff Carter is scheduled to see a doctor tomorrow for an MRI on his ankle. When I asked Sutter today about preparing for games while not knowing about Carter’s status, he said, “He’s getting better. Nobody is trying to B.S. about it. He was able to put some weight on it (this morning) and he’s feeling better.” More notes and quotes to come…

@Jeffreyryan, I wouldn’t mind Carter there if we could get Williams on that line before the playoffs to build some chemistry. Move King to Kopis’ line, and put Brown back on the right to keep him ready to switch if we need to later.

Now that Richardson has got a game in, and we know he’s ready if we need him, can we get Westy, and Whiskey in the next game?

Wouldn’t mind sitting Mitchell for a game, or anyone nursing any bumps or bruises.

@Dominick, I agree it would be a good thing but trouble is we dont have any margin for error… yet, anyways. And since the last two games vs the Sharks will definitely have meaning in one way or another, from a ‘putting your best team on the ice’ standpoint I dont think resting any players is in the cards.

    Dominick Reply:

@bbb7, Your right. I just think if the Kings are gonna attempt it, Monday is the only chance before the playoffs, because if we win, we will still need the 2 games from San Jose to clinch our division, and home ice.

Since we can’t afford to lose Monday, I was just thinking out loud, but realize whats at stake. I’m fine if Sutter didn’t try it, but just thought I’d mention it.

There is definitely room for creative thinking like this in baseball.
Looking even further ahead, I heard CBJ has another goalscoring no.7 we can get our hands on at the end of the season if we offer the right baggage …
VV is playing well so I’m thinking one of the other profile offensive Dmen, plus a goalie.
Keep JB, he gives us the best chance in head-to-head games against Nashville.
I’ve also heard from many reputable sources (on this blog) that Zach Parise wants to play here. Jeff Carter and picks ought to about do it.
    There! Problem(s) solved!

Let’s just get all 3 and lock up the division.

    [Reply]

    @Jeffreyryan,
If we win 2 of the next three. I think we’re guaranteed to be in the top 8. But it’s so complicated.

We just have to win against oilers….and they’re coming off a back to back

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

@@spencerlakings, If we win the next 2, we take 2 points away from San Jose who will only be able to get a maximum of 94 points then. We will have 95 and clinch a playoff birth. No matter what, 2 wins clinches.

Even if we lose Monday, but win 2 against San Jose.

    [Reply]

    CL Reply:

@Dominick, What if it’s an OT win against San Jose? Could the Kings win the next two, end at 95, and still miss the playoffs on tiebreakers?

    CL Reply:

@Dominick, Ignore my previous comment. Since Dallas and San Jose still play each other once more, it’s not possible that both teams hit 95 points if the Kings also get there. So, two wins out of three will definitely have them in the playoffs.

    Christian Svensson Reply:

@@spencerlakings, With 4 points, hence ending with 95, we clinch, since:

The Sharks can then get at most 3 points against the Kings (suppose we win in overtime). Then two things can happen:

A: Sharks get 2 points against Dallas and end up with 95 as well, then Dallas has maximum 89+4+1 = 94 points, hence Dallas don’t make it.

B: Sharks get at most 1 point against Dallas. Then they end up with at most 90+3+1 = 94 points and Sharks don’t make it.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

@Christian Svensson, Exactly! No matter what happens, 2 wins locks it up for the Kings.

    Christian Reply:

@Dominick, Yep. Things would have required deeper analysis if the Coyotes didn’t play “unrelated” teams though, phew ;)

    Jeff_R Reply:

@Christian Svensson, @Dominick, Technically it looks like 94 gets you in so if we lost all 3 games in OT we would have 94. Or we can get 1 Win and 1 OT loss and 1 loss and make it. Anyway Win 3 and get 3……rd place.

    Christian Reply:

    @Jeff_R,

Nah, 94 is not necessarily enough. If we beat the Oilers and loose to the Sharks in OT once and once in regulation, hence the Sharks have 4 points against us, the following can happen:

Sharks loose in OT against the Stars and end up with 95.
Dallas wins their remaining games (including the one in OT against the Sharks) and end up with 95 as well.

    Dominick Reply:

2 wins to clinch, 3 for a chance at home ice.

    Jeff_R Reply:

@Christian, There are so many different scenarios it will make your head spin. It is all Semantics. The operative word is WIN and you are IN. If the Kings don’t make the playoffs when they are leading the way and have the edge with 3 games left then they don’t deserve to make it at all.

    Christian Reply:

I wonder if the Kings wouldn’t be better off finishing in the seventh or eighth spot as opposed to winning the Pacific. Finishing third will get them the Blackhawks in the first round. Finishing seventh or eighth (depending upon the games this week) will get them the Blues. I’d rather play the Blues, who have few players with playoff experience, than the Blackhawks.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

@Jeff, While I think many will think you need to re-think your position, there is some logic there for not wanting the Blackhawks right now. They are playing very well atm and the Blues have cooled off a bit. I still rather face the Hawks though. I’d rather the other team’s weakness be our strenght (goal tending and defense). The Blues actually are better at our strenghts and also better at our weakness (offense).

    [Reply]

    Jeff_R Reply:

@KC23, Umm we might be without Carter which would really hurt us against the Blues, as that is going to be very low scoring and the more offense you posses the better. As far as the Hawks are concerned nobody is sure about when Towes will be back and even if he is just how long it will take him to get back to full strength. I rather play the Hawks especially with there Goaltending and defensive issues.

I was told that if I dropped it, luckily I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to eat either for 7 weeks or 7 years. I am not sure which is real, as I got different versions. I also went to Jewish Day school and don’t remember such a rule. Anyway tonight is PARTY TIME!!!!!

Monday – Kings game. Watching my Beloved Kings Drill them Oilers. Party Time #2

    Tuesday – Don’t know yet :)

Wednesday – Will be at the Ahmanson Theater watching Green Day’s American Idiot.

Thursday – Back to Staples and watching my Kings whip the Sharks and send the Guppies back to SJ with 1 game left to clinch the playoff spot, while watching the Kings celebrate them clinching a spot. Party Time #3

Friday – Don’t know yet. Only thing I do know is at night it starts Passover meaning no bread for a week and only Matzah. I really like Matzah but after a week I could throw up eating any more.

Saturday – Night #2 pf Passover and going to a Seder. Then come home and watch the DVR of the Kings walloping the Sharks and winning the Pacific Division. Party Time #4

So that is my week. I will then sleep until Thursday night Round 1 at Staples against Chicago most likely. Nothing like it…NHL Playoff Time at Staples…

    GO KINGS GO!!!!!

Now I only did this to annoy some people here :) . Don’t expect me to do it again :) Of course if I get a lot of people saying they like it. Maybe I should do a poll :) .

Seriously though we are all Kings fans no matter what and as most of the people here are the same and are a community, a little telling about our lives shouldn’t hurt anybody. If you truly know me, you would know that I am a shy reserved guy that hides behind a keyboard. I don’t even like talking on the phone, rather text. I started all the 14 game thing as a way to try and bring us all together in a more positive atmosphere. Really after the Joe Louis meltdown it was like a Morgue in here. I just tried to make sense of what was going on ad say what I truly felt. With all my heart I truly felt the Kings would make the playoffs and win the Division. Once the Carter trade was made this team started scoring and I felt would keep it up, even after a couple of bad games. I With all my heart I felt the Kings would end the season with 94+ points. I said it back then. I never lorded it over anyone and I would in fact admit publicly that I was wrong if they don’t make it. Outside of Family and a few friends the Kings are the most important part of my life. I am very upset that I have to give up my Season Seats, but I will never change my love for the team. I may joke around and say stuff like I was right you were wrong or something like that, but that is said in jest. It isn’t how I truly feel and I would never think that I was better then that person.

Thanx! I do know about tix books, as I had season seats from the early 90′s to 2007-08. When we got a Robitaille signed jersey and I saw how the team was doing, I decided to pick and choose which games to attend, instead of every game. I’ve not been disappointed, and the Luc jersey couldn’t be topped.

Grandson will be special, and the LBGP never disappoints.

That just leaves the Kings to get in the playoffs. Anything can happen if they get in, but they DO have to get first. We’ll see. I hope we get to use our tix, dude! Nothing like the deafening sound inside Staples at a playoff game!
