Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
BROWN: “It’s a big point. I think we left one on the table. It’s not too often we blow leads, this team. I don’t know what our record is with a third-period lead, but it is what it is. It’s been a tough schedule. We had opportunities there. I think Backstrom probably made the save of the game there in overtime on Richie [Mike Richards]. That could have been the game if he doesn’t make that save.’’
(on rebounding from the first period…)
BROWN: “I thought we played a really good second. Our second was probably our best period. In the first, we were just making a lot of turnovers and they capitalized. Their second goal was a result of our turnover. We settled down in the second and they found a way to even it up in the third.’’
it’ll be the save of the year if they miss the playoffs by 1 point

@petemagoop, will we go back to every one goal game, then?

Kings played like they had a 3 goal lead in the third, too cute trying to get Richardson the hat-trick.

@mikie, exactly. it may be the single point that matters after the dust settles and we’re in 3rd…IN THE WEST!!! I would feel comfortable with CHI coming to LA to play a couple of games.

NHL Center ICE stopped the feed with 1 min left in OT. 2nd time in week they’ve cut the feed early.
Hopefully if we make the playoffs i’ll get to watch what I paid $150 for.

I sent it to DirecTV but it might be a Center Ice issue.
Would be great to be in double OT in the playoffs then……..blip

@Steve W, You mean it didn’t cut off in your area. The question is who flips the switch on Center Ice when the game’s over. Could either be the satellite provider / local cable or NHL, and that’s what we’re wondering. Either way, there’s a matrix of switches for games and locations.

Just re-read, sure, you don’t have Center Ice. We know it’s a Center Ice problem. However, there’s still a question who’s required to flip the switch, and..from last time, we know it doesn’t also happen in every market at once, because some Center Ice subscribers with DirecTV got to see the same game. This can only seemingly be resolved if someone corners the right person with the NHL. DirecTV is telling people (told me personally) it’s not their fault (and the operator who told me seemed to understand my anger).

@alex11, I called Directv about that issue. According to them all feeds are controlled by the NHL and the NHL decides when the plug is pulled on the game.

@LAKinginVirginia, that’s what DirecTV told me, too. They also told me they have them on timers, or something like that, in case they forget to switch them off, and if they’re not watching, the game will cut off during overtime (generally.) Ask me, it’s bassackwards. What’s the harm in getting to see some postgame show, versus getting jacked repeatedly out of an overtime result? BTW, both times, the other team’s broadcast team DID NOT have the switch flipped on them.

@Anjin, Hey I live in Quebec City and I didn’t experience any issue with the NHL Center Ice feed during the OT period yesterday.. Maybe it’s just your internet provider?
Btw, in my opinion, I dont think Backstrom had to do much on Richys OT opportunity. Mike had a HUGE 15 inches gap between Backstrom’s pad and the post and a football-field-sized hole OVER the pad.. That’s no’t the save of the year. What about a big captain top shelf shot, Richy? With so many missed opportunities, I would’ve destroyed that puck. A rocket shot top corner explosing the rubber. Where’s your fire Mike?
Maybe that’s what they call ‘karma’ // Doughty’s OT goal with magic clock vs Colombus

I’m working on a letter to the NHL, though I don’t know how and to whom it will be delivered. Your input is appreciated. It goes something like this:
To NHL:
I didn’t get to see the end of the last two shootout games the Kings played, even though I paid through the posterior for NHL Center Ice, because you pulled the plug during overtime. Those games were:
3/22 against St Louis
3/31 against the Minnesota Wild
I called DirecTV, only to find out that YOU throw the switches on those games. They sad that you guys set timers on the switches, and if someone’s not watching, the game will automatically shut off, typically during OT.
I’d like to ask you this rhetorical question: Which is the greater tragedy? Is it a greater tragedy that WELL-PAYING CUSTOMERS miss the ends of hockey games they paid to see–particularly the most exciting games, which end in OT or shootout? Or is it a greater tragedy that someone gets to see a little bit of the postgame show for the broadcast you’ve contracted the rights to? I’ll tell you what the greatest tragedy is. It’s when someone who wants to pay for it decides the best way to go is to “pirate” it through any of the known methods because YOU don’t care about your customers.
There have also been at least three games that I would have been able to see on NHL Center Ice, but you sold the rights to (apparently) NOT SHOW them to NBC. Feeling lucky to have their obscure channel on DirecTV, I turned it on, and found them showing some EAST COAST game, in its entirety, before showing what they’re cutely calling “bonus coverage” of the scheduled Kings game to which they bought the rights. They were sure to show two sets of commercials before putting on the Kings game, too, and never even had the courtesy to recap the action they chose not to show. So when the guide says there’s going to be a particular game on a particular channel, when does it really MEAN it? Another question: why am I forced to see the HORRIBLE San Jose Sharks announcers whenever NBC shows the games, instead of the best broadcast duo in Hockey: Bob Miller and Jim Fox?
I don’t pay through the nose to see Kings games just to have some snotty pigopolist decide to screw me–the guy who makes it possible to make money on the rights to a broadcast in the first place. If you people didn’t have your heads up your collective hind ends, you’d figure out how to both sell all 82 games to the customer and guarantee that they see them all AND get the “right commercials” for the region in the telecast, making it unnecessary to pull the plug on your paying customers in fear that they might watch a few minutes of unpaid content.

Losing this game wasn’t great but we did get 1 point. This means that everything remains the same. The Kings win there next 2 games and they will clinch a playoff spot. Win all 3 and they win the division. As long as we win our final 3 it doesn’t matter what the Coyotes do, as we have the tiebreaker on them. However we need Dallas to lose 1 of there last 4.

@Jeff_R, I’m kind of nervous about those last 2 games. It will be the real test to see if this team is ready to make a statement about the next 4-7 years, possibly. If the Kings win both games, they are well on their way, if not already having arrived. I mean, it won’t be a VAN runaway, right away, I can see the usual suspects keeping it respectable… But to lose both, would be an entirely new set back in development, and that’s what worries me. Is this team ready? Is the time NOW?
damnnnnnnn, are times a changin?

dang, I missed the game, and don’t feel like watching now….But I think its great they managed that 1 pt for the last game of the trip…they basically could have won it, but did not, but still managed the point without playing their best, and to me that is a great sign.

The way they lost it was disturbing. They gave up a third period lead, and Bernier was a pylon in goal on the penalty shot and the shootout. Not a single save. I was very disappointed. Funny–haven’t heard much from that broke dude radio character recently.
