The Kings are practicing today without Jeff Carter, whose status is in doubt for tomorrow’s game. Hoping to get a further update after practice, but Carter apparently suffered some type of lower-body injury last night. Here’s how the forwards are lined up now, and we’ll see if that’s what they intend to use tomorrow if Carter is unavailable…
Richardson-Kopitar-Brown
King/Nolan-Richards-Williams
Penner-Stoll-Lewis
Clifford-Fraser-Westgarth
crud we need to GET CARTER!!!!

@flakingsfan,
As long as it isn’t a concussion, a ligament tear or a broken bone I’m not too worried. Now lower body means it can’t be a concussion. I don’t recall him showing significant signs of injury during the game so, hopefully he won’t miss more than one or two games total. If he’s back for the two SJ games they should be okay.
If they’re a true playoff team they can handle EDM and MN without him.

@hockey junkie, Completely agree. Why change everyone…just add Nolan to RIchard’s line. They played together before. Unless Sutter wants to distribute the talent to several lines so that the opposition can’t just defend the Kopi line and be satisfied…but it also throws everyone’s gelling together off balance….but I don’t get the big bucks to coach either…
I’d just move Nolan to play with King and Richards. Maybe Sutter is trying to get Richardson and Westy some playing time against easier opponents…but at this time of year, no one is an easy win.

@Sebastian,
I think he’s mobile enough and scrappy enough that his inability to finish won’t be as much of a handicap with the more two skilled guys. Plus it changes the line into a really physical one. Between 1st and 4th lines the Oilers should be worn out somewhat. Hopefully we’ll see that with scoring from 2nd and 3rd lines…

@Kenny44, Exactly, if Carter is out only the 1 game, DS only needs to move Nolar back to play with Richards/King line and bring Westgarth to the 4th line… This is to much messing around when should not be needed… Something else is going on…….

@DRTBUG 22, ITs called getting all the guys some ice team in case he needs them. Westy hasn’t played in awhile and neither has Richardson. Richardson played well last season during the playoffs…so its warming them up. But it could also mean that Carter is more injured than they are saying. Wouldn’t he have xrays taken if it was a fracture? Maybe its just a sprain that needs swelling to go down, with taping it, etc?

I’d rather worry about making the playoffs… at this point winning the division would just be extra credit. As much as I’d love for the Sharks to miss the playoffs, it would be nice to start seeing some separation between us and 9th place. I’d be just fine with the last two games meaning the difference between 3rd and 7th/8th rather than 3rd and 9th.
In other words, I want the Sharks to win in regulation.

I would rather see:
Brown – Kopitar – Williams (They are coming off some heady play last game)
King – Richards – Nolan (Nolan has shown more poise with the puck than Richards of late)
Penner- Stoll- Lewis (Penner has been very solid since on 3rd line)
Clifford – Fraser – Richardson (Love Fraser’s scrappiness, Richardson’s wheels > Westy’s fists)

Where’s @Jeff_R ? Hehe… Standings related is why.
To me, for the Kings to win the division, we are going to really need the Canucks to beat Dallas tomorrow night. Dallas already has a point and the ROW tie breaker on us. So we need to end with one more win that them in the last five games.
I can see us winning 2 of 3 against then lottery teams, then splitting the pair against SJ. I can see Dallas splitting their last two pairs (SJ, SJ, NSH, STL). Keep in mind I wear contacts. But the game tomorrow before that @VAN, is going to be a difference maker for the Division winner.
I guess what I’m saying is that if DAL beats VAN tomorrow night we’ll need 4 wins, which will be real hard to do, to win the Pacific.

@rogiesbackup, You should be the coach!! Your line-up are picture perfect. I like the tree line–they are all strong, feisty kids. It kind of reminds me of the line that the Red Wings had years ago…with Draper (who wasn’t a kid, but played like one) and Darren Mc??? and a third guy, whose name escapes me. They were big and strong and gave most defensive lines fits…as they pummelled people into the boards, and dug the puck out of the corners and even scored short-handed when they played on the Pk. do you remember them?

@joan fondell, Lapointe? Kocur? Maltby?
I wouldn’t mind Williams moving down with Richards. Willy’s a vet, he has a bad game or shift he’s good at bouncing back and just being persistent. Two things Richards is lacking of late, maybe it will rub off.
That being said if Williams is dropped down Richardson or Lewis should take his spot, they’ll miss the speed and first step quickness on the top line. I’d move Lewis up instead, doesn’t matter if he’s the F3 or behind the goal line he works everytime to get back to backchecking. Richardson has been a healthy scratch for how long? I know he’s produced next to Kopi before, but so does everyone else.
Nolly shouldn’t move up just yet, lately he’s been getting caught in that in-between area. His decision making is a little slow, I wouldn’t say he’s a liability, just needs to come along. I still like his game better than Westy’s. I wouldn’t put a limit on him though, I hate when the organization does that. Simmonds hardly cracked the top 2 lines last year. Nolan and King look like potential power forwards if they’re pushed right, and there’s no bad power forwards. Either you are one or your not, kid shows me a lot.
