Jeff Carter is “probably unlikely” to play tomorrow night against Edmonton, Darryl Sutter said after practice today. Sutter offered no further update, but Dean Lombardi said Carter is dealing with an ankle injury. At this point, Carter’s status is considered day-to-day, but his status for Saturday’s game at Minnesota is also in doubt. The severity of the injury is still to be determined.
As for tomorrow’s line combinations, Sutter didn’t commit to using the lines he used in practice today. “I haven’t decided yet,” Sutter said. “Lots of guys can play different positions. We’ll see what the Oilers are doing first.”
this sucks! When the Kings finally gets decent to watch a player that we need even tho he not scoring yet but still we lose it and now they can focus on Kopi line again..

I’d like to see a line consisting of King/Clifford/Nolan…I call this line “The Tree Line” due to their heights. Might make for a pretty good offensive line with some BITE!!!

@Harry, Last we saw Carter(against Calgary) he didn’t look hurt. So, I’m sure injury is light possibly a playable one that the Kings wouldn’t want to chance it or maybe the Kings are giving him time off. Not a bad idea considering the TEAM is playing well with or without him.

@Harry, If the Kings can’t beat Edmonton and Minnesota without Carter, they don’t deserve to play in the playoffs. If it is bothering him, a week off and have it strong for the back to back vs San Jose. Time for 20 guys tro play there backsides off and bring some energy and get 2 points for regulation wins. A couple 3 to 1 wins look pretty good for Friday and Saturday.

I don’t understand why if your 2nd line has someone missing, you’d also “break” your first line!
After all, it’s been mostly that first line that’s been scoring lately.
How about:
Brown/Kopitar/Williams
Richardson/Richards/King
Penner/Stoll/Lewis
Clifford/Fraser/Nolan
Minimum disruption and makes it somewhat difficult for the radio/TV announcers, but they’ll adapt!
If not, I’d rather:
Penner/Kopitar/Williams
Brown/Richards/King
Richardson/Stoll/Lewis
Clifford/Fraser/Nolan
Of course, no one cares how I think the lines should should be comprised.
Only thing that matters is getting the 2 points, even if it’s OT.
GkG!

@FdoFmFull,
He’s trying to spread the scoring talent around a little better. Having Richards center a rookie on one side(King), and a healthy scratch on the other(Richardson) isn’t ideal. Teams not being able to key on one line is part of the reason we’re starting to see more scoring from the Kings since Carter was acquired.

@Cup B4 I Die, Scoring from the second line can only go in one direction – up!
Why break the only line that is consistently scoring?
They’ve also drawn the top defensive line from the opponent more often than not, so I’m not sure the “teams not being able to key on one line” phrase holds water…
Cheers!

@DY, Perhaps I’ve been watching the Kings games from a parallel universe in which Penner has been actually playing more effectively. Did you ever consider that his style of play might benefit from having more skilled linemates (i.e., Kopi and Williams vs. Stoll and Lewis)?
Cheers!

@FdoFmFull, I would just put Penner on the second line and have Richardson play with Stoll and Lewis, that would be a lot of speed on lines 3 and 4

dodgervern Reply:

@FdoFmFull, I like your choices a lot and think Penner still has a huge upside potential. He makes some slick little passes and I think Kopi And Williams have the skill to capitalize on them more than the other players. The key is still going to net and screening goalies.
Regards power play, our passing is crisp but usually only results in a long range shot from outside.I would like to see a bit more movement towards net by guy with puck on his stick before shot and think this might break goalies timing and increase chances of rebound.

Carter is prone to injuries dating back to his Flyer days and missed part of the season in Columbus because of ankle and foot issues and a separated shoulder. Carter had surgery on the foot following the 2009-10 season in Philadelphia but there was speculation that it may not have completely healed.
There was also speculation on potential hip issues thus the reason Carter had to clear the physical before the trade was complete.
Lower body issues are never a good thing on big players, especially those with speed.

Somebody made a comment about Sutter’s comparison of Quick to Kipper and Kipper’s having won more than 40 games in a season several years, and how that comment may have motivated Quick. If Quick is motivated by that comment to excel as he did last night, then I think that Sutter should compare our team to the Detroit Redwings as to consistency. Redwings have made the playoffs 21 years in a row and in that time they’ve won 3 cups. The Kings have made the playoffs 2 years in a row and did not qualify since 2001-2002. To add insult to injury, they’ve only made the playoffs 7 times in the last 21 years.
I think that comparison might draw some ire and instill some pride, passion, power and errrr…. consistency. The only problem is though, as Tom Hanks might attest to, waiting for this consistency is like being stranded on a deserted, tropical island. You have to wait a long time before you either die or get rescued.
