Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts…
(on setting a new franchise single-season record with nine shutouts…)
QUICK: “That was great. I think nothing but the best about Rogie (Vachon) and what he has done for this organization. I feel like it was kind of — not to say it in a bad way — but just a matter of time, because the way the game is going, how defensive-minded it is and how goals are so hard to come by nowadays. At the end of the day, though, it’s two points and that’s all that matters right now. I think we maybe bump up a spot or two (in the standings). That was a huge win.’’
(on the importance of getting back into a playoff spot…)
QUICK: “Absolutely. That’s all we were focused on here today. That’s all that matters.’’
(on whether he expected more from the Flames in the third period…)
QUICK: “You always expect a little more than four shots, but that’s a credit to how the (defensive) guys played in front of me. They were solid all night long, defensively and on the PK. We weathered some storms there on the PK. It was a big road win for us.’’
Quick for M.V.P.

Way early in the season after his 5th or
6th SO…I said …Watch he’ll get 10 this year…
I was dreaming at the time…
But now it’s entirely possible…
That would be some achievement…
He kept us in the race all year…
Quite remarkable…

Awesome win! Amazing what a full 60 minutes will accomplish. Totally different team from the one in Vancouver. Passes connecting, more aggression, guys to the net, more shots, positionally better defense. Quick was a stud tonight for those point blankers. I thought Tanguay had him dead to rights. Beauty.
Play this way every game and not only will we make the playoffs, but go very deep. I almost believe that with this team, it is which team that shows up each night that determines whether they win or lose, they are that good when they are on their game. Man, I don’t remember EVER saying that in 32 years as a Kings fan.

Quick for president!!

We came out buzzing and never relented. Quickie was awesome. They had a number of quality chances, especially early. I’m sure they were shaking their heads and wondering…
In addition to Quick, all the guys played well tonight, but I thought Willie Mitchell was absolutely superb. He put on a clinic. But everybody was taking the body, finishing checks and playing smart.
Now I guess we root for Phoenix to beat the Sharks, tomorrow evening.

@Ron Reynolds,
Calmary got some great chances, but never got 2nd and 3rd wacks at the puck all night long. They were all 1 and done because Quick was swallowing them up. Defense was doing a good job of deflecting the players without the puck aay from the scoring areas, so as soon as Quick spotted the shot, Calgary was done.
Neutral zone, once the Kings had possession, was fluid for the Kings, and they generated speed with 1 pass till the 3rd. Then they flooded the space just inside the blueline, and chipped everything out fast. Calgary still had pressure, but were 1 and done.
I told puck73 he would get a shutout once I saw how the Kings were playing, but I don’t think he believed me.

Wait a second……Wasn’t everybody on Quicks jock just a few days ago? lol
Can’t even begin to tell everyone how happy I am for this guy. Through all the years of hearing whining, and moaning about how Quick is this, and Quick is that, he will crumble down the stretch, he’s tired, he gives up soft goals, Kigs will never be elite because of him.
Mallarkey!

@Dominick, I give tons of credit to Quick for the shutout, but the Kings D is awesome only allowing 19 shots while being ahead for 55 mins. Usually the trailing team is able to pile up a miss leading shot count trying to catch up. Anyone else notice Voynov is getting more 3rd period minutes even in games the Kings lead in the last few games. Martinez appears to be the Dman out when protecting a lead. Mitchell gets every other shift with either Greene or Voynov and the other pair is DD & Scuds. Outside the StL OT game Greene’s minutes back down to 15 minutes.

@Dominick, 2 years ago I was one of the few people that said Quick had more potential than Bernier if he learned good positioning. My arguement was which is more athletic Quick, which has better reflexes Quick. Why did virtually everyone say Bernier had greater potential, because he played extremely well(mostly positionally taking away the angles), but my point was he was a near perfect positional goalie that wasn’t going to improve that much. Bernie takes away almost everything and tries to get as big as he can. JQ was all quickness and athletism to start Ranford & Hexy have work with him and to his credit now he also has great positioning taking away virtually every angle and the quick reflexes and athletic ability make him that much harder to beat. Then there is the intangible Quick is a Battler/Competitor all the great ones have this. I truely believe he never thinks he should get beat for a goal.

This is the first time we have had a dominant goalie. Feels great! Thank you quickie.

Good to see the media recognizing Quicker as an elite goalie. He sure does deserve it, MVP all the way. But I wish our defense would get more recognized as being a big part of it! 2nd best defense in the league + super solid goal tender = big props for Quick!
Hey NHL talking heads, he is not doing this all on his own!!!!!
