Two summers ago, Willie Mitchell was something of a risky signing for the Kings, given that he was coming off a concussion that had cost him half a season. The Kings signed Mitchell to a two-year contract, one that has worked out well for both sides, and last month Mitchell gave up his ability to become a free agent when he signed a two-year extension. Was it a case of mutual loyalty? In this week’s LAKings.com feature, I chat with Mitchell about his decision to stay with the Kings. Thanks for reading…

I saw Halak played verse the Ducks, but Brian Elliott by all the numbers has been having a better year, and played almost as many games. I would have the same advice as verse the Sharks, they lost to the Ducks and must be angry. Sun Tzu “If an enemy is angry, frustrate him.”. If the Kings come out and out work the Blues they will tire get frustrated and make mistakes.

After a day off of scoreboard watching as there was really only one game that had any affect with the Kings, although not really at this time but it might be of importance 2 weeks from now, Chicago beat Vancouver but of course it was a 3 point game. Lovely. Hopefully there aren’t any tomorrow. Actually the Blues lost and there is a REALLY LONG ODDS that we could pass the Blues, highly unlikely though. Anyway here the games that affect the Kings tomorrow. May luck strike twice with Kings beating a team the night after they lost to the Ducks.
Blues at Kings – With an outside chance that the Kings could catch and pass the Blues they will need to win this game in regulation. With the Blues in a back to back there is good chance that the Kings will win. They need to come out strong and keep it up throughout the game, especially the 2nd period to tire the Blues out for a strong Third for the Kings. The Blues will be facing a much different team then the one they face at the beginning of February when they won 1-0. This is not going to be a 1-0 game again. If the Kings win they will have one game left in the first 7 game increment and be 6-0.
Calgary at Minnesota – We need the Wild to win to keep the Flames from gaining traction for the top 8. A loss by Calgary will almost be the final nail in there coffin. They need to win in regulation as another 1 point game will not help. Another bad loss will also put them close to the grim reaper.
Vancouver at Dallas – Even though I been saying I want Vancouver to lose so that there is a chance the Kings can pass them…I did say they were allowed to win 2 games and those 2 games were versus Dallas. No 3 point game here and if Dallas loses in regulation and Kings win, Kings will take over 1st place in the Pacific. That is a lot more important then hoping the Kings have a chance to finish 2nd. If the Kings run the table then Vancouver can win only 3 more times. Hopefully this is the start of Dallas’s downfall.
Colorado at Phoenix – This is really a pick me game but needs to happen in regulation, which is tough as these two teams seem to go to OT the most. Depending on what happens in other games depends on who we are going for. Since Colorado isn’t in the Pacific it probably best for them to win.
Boston at San Jose – We need the Bruins to win to keep San Jose down and from gaining confidence to start a streak. Hopefully it is a very hard fought game so that the Sharks tire Boston out for Saturdays tilt against the Kings.
Those are the games affecting the Kings. 5 games total tomorrow, what a day it will be and it will either further complicate the situation or make things a lot easier to see how it will end. The Kings can end the night either in 3rd, 7th, 8th or 9th.
This is what we are going for tomorrow. Go Kings, Vancouver, Colorado, Minnesota, Boston.
GO KVCMB!!!!!!! GO KVCMB!!!!!!!

Can you believe if the Kings can beat a tough opponent they will likely climb to 83% probability to make the playoffs (according to SCS of course)? If we lose we lose. Either way I would taken this in a heartbeat only a week ago.

@LA_1968, According to Sports Club Stats if the Kings win there odds go up 10.3, if Vancouver wins 1.7, Boston wins 2.1, Minnesota wins 2.1.. That totals to 16.2. The interesting one is if Phoenix wins or Colorado wins either way our odds go up although higher if Phoenix wins 0.6 to 0.2. All these odds are if all the games end in Regulation. Awesome if it turns out this way. I guess it be better if Phoenix beats Colorado in regulation. Wonder if Sports club stats knows if the Kings win and Dallas loses doesn’t matter what Colorado does, even if it is an OT game.

@Jeff_R, Great synopsis. However I disagree with you on the Colorado at Phoenix game.Because of the games in hand that all of the contenders have over the Rockies and the fact that pretty much ever contending team is playing well, they don’t really have a much of a chance of making the playoffs. It would be better to keep the ‘Yotes at bay with a Colorado victory. Of course, no Betman points!

Jeff_R Reply:

@Cav Pilot, I said for Colorado to win. Also the way Colorado is playing they might just win all 7 of the rest of there games and make it. I am shocked that they got 3 out of 4 on there east coast trip. They are playing really well right now and at the right time. There many OT games and Shootout wins might cost them at the end though.
[Reply]
The Kings have 9 games left. 5 road and 4 at home. If they win all 4 home games it would mean they would only have to win 2 road games out of the 5. That would give them a 6-3 record for 12 points and 96 total and should be enough to win the division. However I hope they win 3 out of the 5 for a 7-2 record and 98 points. 98 should really be enough to win the division. For Dallas to beat out the Kings with 98 points they would have to win 7 out of there final nine games. That is a tough feat as they play Vancouver, San Jose and Calgary twice plus St Louis and Nashville.
[Reply]
I predict a Kings win by virtue of the fact that St Louis are all but locked into a 1 or 2 seed for the Playoffs. The Kings will be firing on all cylinders, and I think running at 75% capacity is where the blues comfort level is at now. I don’t think they pressed the ducks last night. especially in their own zone. They rarely give up 4 goals.

in my opinion, if anyone DMAN’s contract is up it would be a shame to not extend or sign (the young guys) to a new contract. We have one of the best D’s in the league (you can interpret that D how you want). I would like to keep it in tack as long as possible.
Not sure why I haven’t bought a WM jersey. He’s just that solid dude that brings it EVERY night.
I hope he slams BACKES to the ice hard.

@Lake Forest,
When your defense is second in the league and was the only thing keeping you in the race during the first 3/4′s of the season, resign every single one of them and the goalies. We have a great mix of youth, expereince and talent and should try to keep them together, since (sorry DS) their stats and records show how good they are.

All we can hope for is a repeat performance of Tuesday night. If the Kings keep playing Balanced hockey all will be fine. It seems that everyone is on board and gelling at the right time. These next 2 games are against the “BETTER” teams. I do feel that we can play with any team in this league. Jeff Carter is the Key. This guy is awesome. This is not the time to miss a Kings game. Not since the early 90′s has it been this alive. This season has been one of many up’s and down’s, yet here we sit with a chance to take the division lead. Many of us have been pissed off during the season. Many rode this team off, said they have no heart. Gave up when the chips were down. It’s all good now, come on back, we need all the fans to get on this train. Yes being a Kings fan is not easy, but it is what it is!! Oh there is still this voice that says “Remember now this is the Kings” but that’s OK too. Man I wish I could go to the remaining home games. You fans are in for a treat. Again thanks again for making my time in Long Beach and the Staples Center a time I will NEVER forget. We truly are family around here. Thanks to Rich and his staff for allowing us to come together from all over the NHL world and being part of Kings hockey. All Hail The Kings!!

@King Charles of Salt Lake,
Well said man
Being a Kings fan is not easy, but nothing willb e sweeter than when they lift that cup!
I’m not sure if there’s a team that woulds want to play us right now in the playoffs.
There’s no questioning the defense and golatending. Now that the offense has gotten hot, they have no weakness.

Well, the Yotes just suffered a blow to their hopes of making the playoffs. Doan suspended for three games. Worst time of the year for him to get that, but good for the Kings. Hopefully, one less team to worry about.

Lord Bless the Kings whose name is in your honor and make them win it all and everyone else lose. For they are Coveters of the Cup we are a humble hockey team who have won nothing. Amen

One of the things I love about this team is the fact that Willie deserves, but does not have or arguably even need, a “C” or an “A” on his sweater. We actually have depth of leadership! How many teams can say that?
[Reply]
Willie is so good at coming back and breaking up potentially big scoring plays from the opponent. In the games I was at (vs. Nashville, Ducks) he was awesome to watch. Great move locking up this guy for another couple of seasons..
