A nice day for Mama Sutter

What did Grace Sutter get for her birthday? Four points. Mrs. Sutter spent her day at home in Alberta while two of her seven sons coached games down south. Darryl Sutter’s Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks, while Brent Sutter’s Calgary Flames beat the Minnesota Wild. Incidentally, the two Sutter-coached teams have identical records of 32-25-12 this season and are fighting for playoff spots.

Darryl Sutter said he hadn’t connected with his mother Sunday, because she spent the bulk of the day in church, while he spent the evening behind the bench. Sutter’s wife passed along his best wishes in a phone call, and Sutter said he asked NBC Sports Network broadcaster Dave Strader to send out birthday wishes to Grace during the game. Strader obliged.

Sutter also has a place of honor on a wall in the United Center press box, among several dozen former players, coaches and management members. Sutter spent his entire 406-game career with the Blackhawks, served as team captain and coached the team for three seasons.
