Brown postgame quotes (March 3)

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…

(on the big game…)
BROWN: “I think they’re all going to be big, but considering where everyone is at in the standings, and the team we played tonight and where they were at, and everything they’ve done in this calendar year to try to get back in the playoff picture, it’s a four-point game. Everyone is clawing and fighting for points, it seems like, especially in the Pacific. It’s one of those things where we just have to focus on what we have to do. It’s going to be a dogfight down to the end here. We have to worry about our game and focus on our game, and I think if we play our game and take care of our games, the rest will take care of itself.’’

(on getting some balance when the second line scores…)
BROWN: “I think it helps our confidence offensively, when you throw line after line out there that can score goals and he scored some big ones for us tonight. It makes it doubly hard for the opposing team. They can’t just key on the centermen, or Kopi’s line. For a while there, they were keying in on Kopi and trying to shut Kopi down. Now that we have Carter here, obviously he and Ricky [Mike Richards] have some chemistry, and they [other teams] have to kind of pick and choose who their top D-pair, who they want to play against. It doesn’t really make a difference for us, as players. I think, if you have the top D-pair against me and Kop and Williams, Ricky and Carts and Kinger can do the job against the 3-4 (defensemen), and vice versa.’’

(on Carter’s first goals with the Kings…)
BROWN: “I’m sure it has to feel good for him. Probably no better time than a big game like this. Big players make big plays in big games.”

(on the tight playoff race…)
BROWN: “Every game is so big now. It’s so tight, everyone is looking for points any which way they can get them. I think it’s important for us to just focus in. We’re going to be on the road and again, with having multiple threats offensively it kind of nullifies that matchup as much as it can on the road. Coming down the stretch our best players have to be our best players.”

(on the upcoming road trip…)
BROWN: “I think when you’re fighting for spots down the stretch, the hardest games are sometimes the opponents that are out of the playoff picture because they have nothing to lose. They play high-risk, so we got to be ready to play against anyone. There are teams on this road trip that are playing really good hockey right now and we have to be prepared to grind things out.”
