It’s a big day for Scott Parse, who is skating today for the first time since he underwent early-season hip surgery. Parse got checked out by a doctor in Nashville last week and got cleared to start skating. There’s no indication as to when Parse might be able to play again, but it seems unlikely to happen this season.
Simon Gagne continues to skate, as he recovers from concussion symptoms. Gagne said he will be evaluated again this weekend but doesn’t yet know when he might be able to participate in full-team practices. Incidentally, Gagne said that he had the same hip surgery Parse had done (in the summer of 2006).
Very nice, hope to see C-moan and Parse recover soon.

@TheAcaciaStrain,
Fire Leiweke? Really?? I was on that wagon with you 5 years ago when AEG went and spent a boatload for some Soccer player from England to play for the Galaxy while the Kings languished. But I’ve seen a reasonable turnaround in AEG support for the Kings.
Leiweke is our de-facto owner. He attends at least 90% of our home games and you should hear him chirp at the refs after bad calls. He knows them by name and chirps them whenever they get close. Problem is there’s a thick wall of glass between them so I doubt the refs really hear him. Still pretty funny and kinda cool too. The guy shows passion for this team, not quite like Mark Cuban, but close.

@Harrison Merkin,
In my perfect world, this is how they’d skate at the end of the season:
King – Kopitar – Williams
Gagne – Richards – Carter
Penner – Stoll – Brown
Clifford – Fraser – Lewis/Nolan
Stoll and Brown play well together and it would take pressure off Penner. It makes the team a lot harder to defend then stacking the first two lines, too. Plus it gets everyone but Lewis back to their natural position. Brown would still get similar minutes because of PP and PK time, so don’t look at this as a demotion. It’s just the spot where I believe he’ll put up the most points consistently.
I hope the evaluation goes well for Gagne this weekend. Realistically, though, best case I think is he’s back to full team practice/contact drills after the road trip. Earliest I see him hack in the lineup would be against Boston in 3 weeks. He’s not trying to get to 90%, he’s (rightfully) waiting until he’s back to 100% before stepping on the Staples Center ice. He’s had too many concussions to risk coming back too soon. The next one will most likely be his last game as a professional.

@Harrison Merkin, looking at the various preferences in your thread, i’ll go with yours. but i’d still expect Gagne to get dinged and Parse to take his place at no loss to productivity. Parse / Kopitar / Brown have maybe a dozen games (probably less) playing together but that’s been an extremely productive line when it’s happened. i’m a bit mystified as to why Lewis’s production hasn’t improved, but it’s instructive that no one’s ideal line up includes Richardson.

Great news for Parsley. I hope his body holds up. It very much seemed like a career ending series of injuries for him.
The difference between him and C-moan (love that name strain) is C-moan had already been a regular NHL player for a long time. Parse has yet to prove his body can hold up to the rigors of the NHL for any length of time, which does not bode well for his future.
I hope it works out for him because if he now has super-robo-hips (a la Lokti’s robo shoulders) maybe he will be able to skate for the next 10 years without skipping a beat and put to use all that passing/shooting talent he has.

I feel personally C-Moan is done. I hope I’m wrong, but after 3 concussions, life just becomes more difficult and concussios are easier to get, + he’s got a family to think of. @wavesinair, Because he’s a competitor. All he has done since he was young was play hockey. It’s a difficult transition for about 90+% of all pro atheletes, especially when you’re still young and you feel like you still have time left. It’s hard to stop and move on.
If he continues, the concussions will just compound and symptoms will just get worse and take longer to heal. He could keep playing, but it would be at the expense of his health. Only he really knows, but seeing how long this one has taken him to come back from, most lilkely the next one will be Sidney Crosby-esque in time.
I’d rather see Gags hang ‘em up for his wife and kids than take a risk of a more difficult life for the rest of it.

nice. waited 3 years to see a healthy Parse putting in a full season in a crown shirt. I’d like to see a deal that would keep him here. his detractors in these threads don’t know what they’re talking about, Scooter’s got game. don’t know if you noticed– when Lombardi was interviewed about the Carter trade, he mentioned Parse’s absence in particular concerning the team’s offensive troubles this year. some fans fuss a lot about how former players have fared elsewhere (most of it far overblown), but if Scooter can post a full, healthy season somewhere next year, he’ll be chasing 30 goals, no doubt. Hope it’s here, he’s got one of the best NHL career shooting percentages of active NHL players.

overall, Gagne’s injury history is more disconcerting. i’d love to see him back at the top of his game wearing a crown shirt, especially since he’s under contract, but i’m dubious. it is nice to know that the hip surgery didn’t hold him back. too many concussions, though.

Carter begs to differ
(He’s had more goals in 1 season than Parse has career points). Gagne was able to finish but less consistant than Carter due to the injury bug. I’d say Parse is probably 5th on this team in “pure finish” , behind Carter , Gagne, Williams/Richards.
[Reply]
wes Reply:
March 2nd, 2012 at 3:12 pm
@Puckn-A, you’re rather random in the numbers you’re willing to cite. Parse played all but a handful of of his NHL games as a rookie, getting rookie minutes– hardly top line minutes with top line linemates. even so (and anyone interested could easily look this up):
NHL Career Shooting Percentage:
Scott Parse. 0.151
Simon Gagne. 0.128
Anze Kopitar. 0.120
Mike Richards. 0.113
Jeff Carter. 0.109
Dustin Brown. 0.102
Justin Williams. 0.093
The numbers are rather close for Gagne and Kopitar, rather close for Richards, Carter, and Brown. But Parse’s shooting percentage is well beyond them all. And Williams, whom you cite as a “pure finisher” turns out to be something less (I like Justin Williams a lot, he’s one of my favorite players, a smart and decent guy, but the cold, hard numbers say he’s not a great finisher).
Perhaps you’ll just dismiss inconvenient statistics the way certain others do in these threads do. On the other hand, the advantage to not already ‘just knowing’ things– it becomes possible to look into things.

Yeah, because Parse has played 73 games with a whopping 93 shots, Gagne 761 games with 2209 shots. No way Parse keeps that percentage if he played these last 2 seasons, no way. His shot totals would of went up as well being that he was supposed to get top 6 minutes. You knock belexes sample size for his argument but yours is also a questionable sample size as well. If you search active career Shooting Percentage leaders Parse doesn’t even qualify because of game & shot totals.

it would be instructive to look up these two things that bear on your most recent comments, and thanks to your search engine, it’ll be easy too.
1. statistically significant sampling
2. non sequitur
my post regarded statistically signisicant samplings- numbers compiled during a time period beginning 1n 1999 (Gagne’s career begins) through March 2, 2012. Bliznak taking one shot on goal does not qualify as being relevant. Westgarth taking 8 draws does not qualify as being relevant.

gp g a +/-
09-10 59 11 13 +13
10-11 5 1 3 +5
11-12 9 2 0 +1
Now try to forget–just for a second–that he is the hated Parse, and just try to imagine him as some unnamed player. Does he suck? Really?

Kings need to start a winning streak…..Cant expect to get int he playoffs by win one then lose next as u can tell we dont have any tie breakers on our side.Only reason we move up to 9th yesterday because we have one less game on Avs…..
Cant relay on Stars and Avs to get a losing streak going..Its not going to happen.

@KingsFanFTW, Only thing you can count on is that you can’t count on anything. You never know what the heck any team may or may not do.

@KingsFanFTW,
colorado at home was shut out by columbus. That’s a losing streak within itself.
san hoser at home was shut out by buffalo who had played the night before.
dallas has 3 games vs the sharks, 3 games vs vancouver also st louis, nashville
Look at their last 10 games of the season
I think it will happen

@trytodethroneus, yea but we have 3 against Sharks 1 against Canucks 2 against a team that we havent beaten yet Oilers and 2 havent beaten yet Detroit ….
So this month going to be hard…
I like the faith u guys have i really do..all iw ant is a 3 game winning streak not no ridiculous amount like the Coyotes had…

I think we need to cut our loses and let these two boy go.. I’m sure that Gagne can end up like Fox, Engblom or maybe even Roenick..(LOL, just kidding on that name) Parse could end up like Granato or maybe even Bylsma…. But seriously, Gagne came with the concussion problem and history, if we didn’t know what we were getting, shame on us… Parse well even on his best day he was not a very good Bylsma as a player but who knows what he could accomplish in the coaching ranks… buy the contacts out and let’s move onward and hopefully upward…

@DRTBUG 22, Gagne Had the same problems but help the Lighting in the playoffs in the long run and help the Flyers get in the Stanley Cup finals in 2010 ……
So in the long run if the Kings make the playoffs he might help the Kings out big time as well as Carter and Richards
I wouldn’t give up on either one guys..Just in case

@KingsFanFTW, Gagne having the same continued problem is exactly my concern. When you have one concussion its a concern, after the second one (no offence) but most become damaged goods and are done.. Its not that I would not want Gagne, about 4 years ago but now I think he is not long for the game… we need his salary to get younger and stronger… I just think we can spend our salary dollars better.. but i will hope that your hopes might come true..

@DRTBUG 22, i say his career almost over……I just think the Kings can still use him for this year and next which we know he going to be injured again next year..

@DRTBUG 22, I am surprised williams has been healthy. When we signed Gagen I was wondering how long we would have them , and predicted a busy infirmary.

Glad to here they are both on ice now, as it must be terrible to not be there. Feel good guys and all the best, take care.

If Parse can get back and play at the NHL level he’ll make one heck of a story. Talk about perseverance. I got a feeling Gagne will be back soon, but it’ll take a bit to get back to form. Don’t know if there is enough time for Gagne to get back to where he can contribute. Sure hope so.

@KC23, nice post

Gagne reminds me a little of my favorite never-King player for the past – Pat LaFontaine. LaFontaine’s concussions were even worse. There’s still some hope for Gagne, but I’m not sure that he SHOULD take the risk. Maybe this is one case were an athlete can take the money and run and we’d all understand why(?).

@Weasel, That’s my thinking. I’ll appreciate anything else Gagne gives to the Kings, but I’m not sure he should lace them up again given the long-lasting damage repeated concussions bring. That’s his call, and as a fan, I’ll support him either way.

Get rid of both of they along with Penner too.

I still can’t believe all this support for Parse. He hasn’t proven anything except he can easily be injured. Parse I could care less if he came back, but I can’t wait for Gagne to come back. Actually I am sure Manchester would like Parse.

@Kovalking96, no, Parse won’t be playing in Manchester. he’s going to be unrestricted, and if LAK won’t give him a place in the big show, with a serious opportunity at top a top six role, then he’ll be signing with someone else who will be happy to give him that opportunity. and then– if he finally stays health–, he’ll put up 25-35 goals.
