Game 63: Predators 2, Kings 1 (FINAL)

THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Rinne.
Predators 2, Kings 1: The Kings got on the scoreboard with 3:24 remaining in the third period. Dustin Brown’s initial shot attempt, from the left of the net, was blocked, but Brown picked up the puck and fired again. The shot took two deflections in front of Rinne and went into the net. Brown got credit for the goal, with assists to Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Predators 30-28 but couldn’t tie the game late.

SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Rinne.
Predators 2, Kings 0: Less than 30 seconds after the Kings’ Jeff Carter had a shot ring off the goalpost, the Predators took a two-goal lead. David Legwand took a shot from the left circle that went wide, and deflected hard off the end boards towards the front of the net. Patric Hornqvist was there to knock the rebound past Quick. Sergei Kostitsyn also got an assist.
End of period: Shots were 12-9 in favor of the Kings in the period. The Kings went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Predators will be on the power play for the first 1:05 of the third period.

FIRST PERIOD
Officials: Frederick L’Ecuyer, Brad Meier (referees); Pierre Racicot, Scott Driscoll (linesmen).
Lineup: The Kings’ healthy scratches are Davis Drewiske, Brad Richardson and Kevin Westgarth.
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Predators’ Pekka Rinne.
Predators 1, Kings 0: The teams traded chances throughout the period, but the Predators struck first, with 1:33 remaining in the period. A soft shot attempt by Roman Josi deflected off Drew Doughty’s stick in front and hit Quick in the chest, but he couldn’t cover it and it trickled behind him and over the line. David Legwand and Gabriel Bourque got assists.
End of period: The Predators outshot the Kings 11-9 in the penalty-free period.
