Brown postgame quotes (Feb. 21)

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…

(on losing momentum with the second-period penalties…)
BROWN: “Definitely. Obviously the first (period) was what it was. We were rolling and they got that early power-play goal and took the wind out of our sails. We got another goal back, and then came back and got a third goal off a mistake of ours. We’ve got to get the puck out, in that situation.’’

(on the Kings’ penalty killing…)
BROWN: “It’s probably the first night all year, when we have enough goals to win a game and probably the strongest area of our game, all year, has been our PK, and it wasn’t good enough tonight.’’

You know what? With the way things have been going I’m taking the point and 8th place.

@LA_1968, My thoughts exactly. Would be nice to have gotten 2 and tied Phoenix in regulation or be behind 1 with an OT win. The fact that we got 1 and sit solidly in 8th is a nice consolation prize. I am just hoping that this 4 goal game gives the Kings some momentum going forward.

Will the Kings showcase Bernier vs. the Avs tonight as trade bait?

For all the complaining about the refs and some insinuating that the refs favor Phoenix cause the league owns them, I have to say from the angle in the recap video Brown’s tip was likely too high… so bottom line the Kings just lost composure and didnt preform.

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

@bbb7, I saw it half a dozen times, and Brownie’s holding his stick straight out at his elbows.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, To me it looks more like the point of contact was shoulder height which is too high, but I agree it’s hard to reverse from that look. Not that that has stopped Toronto before.

    MM Reply:

@bbb7, Does anyone else think that the puck deflected off of Brown’s stick and then off of the defender’s arm? Does it even matter if the puck deflects off a body part if the puck is redirected with a high stick?

Brown sounds mad!…wait til tomorrow…I feel sorry for those reporters in the Locker room who have to sit through his emotionless and passionless portrayal of how things didn’t go his way out there

Brown is an above average player with edge. He is a great hitter and works hard in practice ( grow what I hear). He is NOT captain material or even a leader. He was given the role when we had a minor league roster. Get rid of this guy as captain and go w someone more consistent and with more passion. This guy is just frustrating. His comments make my stomache turn

@Deaderhead28, he will be a great third line wing when the kings hoist the cup in four years

@Deaderhead28, who would you suggest as Brown’s replacement? Do we have a deep pool of highly skilled, passionate leaders that I’m not aware of? Kopi? Williams?? Brown isn’t the problem.

    King Cobra Reply:

@Deaderhead28, I agree some nights Brown is invisible, but last nights game he played his ass off with a goal, shoot out goal, assist and hits. This is not the time to call him out.

    @Osaka,
Yeah totally agree with you on that. Horrible giving up those goals to a team that is DEAD LAST in PP percentage.

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

@Osaka, The penalty kill was what put them on the edge, and the officiating sent them over. The fragile team they are right now, they let it happen to them.

    Duncanz Reply:

@Osaka, Especially the guy that has to be our best PKer unfortunately.
Still, he’s had such a stellar season to date that you’ve got to give him a free pass once in a while..

Why do we even need interviews? It’s the same rhetoric night in and night out. Just admit that you guys don’t have the desire to battle back, and address that first. Scoring or not, I think everyone of us fans would be singing a much different tune if they COULD COME BACK AND WIN A GAME EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE.

Not lead a game and win, but win a game you’re not supposed to. Show that ability to someone find a way to win when all odds are against you. Every other team in the league right now seems to be able to do it (every once in a while), why can’t the Kings? How many 1 goal games/shoot out losses have the Kings been a part of this year? Where would the Kings be in the standings if they had won 2 or 3 of those game in regulation by scoring that big goal? Right now, it’s totally lacking with this team.

A rare PK breakdown. Hurts but what can you do – can’t be perfect. Failure to clear really hurt. On the flip side: SJ lost, our boys now know they are capable of some dominating offense (3 goals in one period?!), and they got a point. When they open up the offense again tomorrow and resume their PK acumen and get two points, we will all exhale and take a deep deep breath…..aaahhhhh.

  16. King Alex says:

I said it to my brother & I’ll repeat it to all you insiders, the Kings really have to watch ALL the video of this game & not to bitch, piss & moan about the bs call to Cliffy. The Kings need to watch this game over & over to see how the Yotes battled back & stole this game. For all you dated insiders like me, the Yotes were down but they still had “The Eye Of The Tiger”. They never gave up nor held their heads down low. They never submitted even though they were being outplayed. No matter how this season ends & where we end up compared to the Yotes, we have to find our “Never Say Die” attitude & play for each other. If any Kings players read this blog, I challenge you to take this team upon your shoulders & turn this funk around. We have a captain & 2 assistants & it’s past time to kick some ass & take some names. No more “it is what it is” or “we have to find a way to score more goals”. It does not matter who wears the letters, someone LEAD this team! I am not asking for 1 player to take this task. We do have enough talent on this team that all we need is 1 player to take the lead per game. Believe in yourselves & your teammates. When you have any team down 3 zip, put the pedal to the metal & crush them! For the love of God Almighty, never, EVER sit on a lead. It’s the other teams job to stop your offense, not yours to protect a lead!

@King Alex, Right on do we have that one player?

    Jimmyo777 Reply:

@Gail Weber, Yes Number 10 given the chance…A coach can’t do everything in the locker room, in fact a good coach does very little in there.. It’s up to the leadership group, particularily the guy with the “C” to keep the players motivated whether they are winning or losing.. Brownie hasn’t done the job and never will. Maybe an “A” but certainly not a “C”

Reporter: 3 goals in the 1st period.
Brown: It is what it is
Reporter: The penalty killing kinda had an off night.
Brown: It is what it is.
Reporter: That major penalty on Clifford was a killer.
Brown: It is what it is.
Reporter: You guys seemed to turn the puck over a lot tonight.
Brown: It is what it is
Reporter: Why can’t you guys win in the shootout?
Brown: It is what it is
Reporter: Do you think Quick is wearing down from playing 50 games in a row?
Brown: It is what it is
Reporter: So, Dustin. What you’re really saying is, It is what it is.
Brown: You have taken that completely out of context. It is what it is, I guess.
