The view from Dallas

Last night’s game had an important feel for Dallas. The Stars entered the game in 11th place in the Western Conference, but only four points behind the seventh-place Kings and three points behind eighth-place Phoenix, and with two games in hand over each team. The Stars had a road-weary Kings team in their arena, and had the perfect opportunity to get going with a win. Instead, the Stars suddenly look quite vulnerable. The Stars are 2-3-1 in their last six games — to be fair, so are the Kings, but the Stars played three of those games at home — and now Dallas must travel to Detroit and face the team that won’t lose at home. It’s far too early to write the Stars out of the playoff race, but they need to make a move quickly, and their mostly tepid effort against the Kings probably won’t generate a lot of momentum.
