Things didn’t go very well for the Kings in New York yesterday, but things went better for one of the Kings in Los Angeles. Simon Gagne skated for approximately a half-hour yesterday, in what apparently was his first time on the ice since he suffered a concussion in the Dec. 26 game against Phoenix. Gagne’s short-term and long-term status remains unknown, but the fact that Gagne felt good enough to get on the ice is a positive development for the 31-year-old winger. Kings officials had privately expressed concern that Gagne might be sidelined for the rest of the season. Gagne, who is under contract through next season, has seven goals and 10 assists in 34 games this season and is a former two-time 40-goal scorer.
Dam, that must be one dam nasty concussion if this is the first time on the ice. My prayers are with you Simon. Take it one day at a time.

@KC23, I was at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway Sunday afternoon and met Luc, who was accompanied by Simon–must be feeling a lot better, without any vertigo, if he could go on a steep tram ride with windows all around the gondola!

He shouldn’t play again and probably wont IMO

Good luck Simone ! Welcome back. I hope these concussions go away and you feel better. Man, we could use your soft hands and experience right now. I definately think you will oerform better under Sutter and Nicholls. Good luck Simone, and fight the good fight !

Did he shave the bread yet?

@DJ KDL,
That was my second thought after just feeling very happy he feels good enough to put on skates. I want him back for the team, but most of all, I would like to see him better for himself and his family.
[Reply]
Hope he gets better soon. Maybe he should go see that specialist that Crosby saw recently in LA.
[Reply]
Glad to hear that, but I’m definitely more concerned about the long term effects for Simon’s life. Hockey is just a game man, take your time and value your family first. Definitely praying for your recovery and clarity for the future.

@Cynic, Well said, family is the most important thing we have, everything else is second.
Thoughts and prayers for a full recovery Gagne!

Good luck Simone, can’t wait to have you back in the lineup!

Glad to see he’s healthy enough to skate, for his sake, not the Kings. I was afraid this was going to be a Crosby situation. Hopefully he’s 100% at the start of the next season.
[Reply]
It would really help us if he could come back this season whether it is by the end of the regular season or the playoffs. If he can’t do so though I hope he is 100% by the start of training camp and hopefully this won’t end his career. I think he has a lot more to give if his health can give him the chance.

@Jeff_R, I meant to say I rather he be 100% when he comes back and not to come back anything less then that. I know it must kill him to see how much trouble we are having scoring and he can’t do anything about it. I just don’t want him to try and come back when not 100%.

1st time on skates – longgggg way off by the looks of it
[Reply]
Good news. He came back and made immediate impact in Tampa. I hope he’ll do it again.

Hey , Did anybody think DL said skate and lets find NOW if Simon will be back soon, If not, the gun is cocked and ready to pull the trigger.. We say this all the time but the games today is the biggest yet this year with the 2 kids and a 4 pt game… Feel good about this one but if by chance something happens bad I think I am going to Boise to be with KFII…

@lakingbob(chi), I sincerely doubt that he is skating because DL asked or told him too. He has a concussion, one of a few that he has had. The only one that can tell him he can skate is Gagne himself and advice from a doctor. This isn’t just his career we are talking about, this is his life.

@kings king, If Lombardi has his way, Toffolli will stay in Manchester to pay his dues. Hell, if Lombardi was GM back in the day, Robitaille would have never made the Kings because he was too slow, a cherry picker, and he wasnt strong on his stick !

@Danny, I am hoping he can play this season and if not next season. However I rather him have a healthy rest of his life and he decides or isn’t able to play again, I will support his decision.
[Reply]
That’s good news!!
[Reply]
I hope he is going to be ok, but I worry that he won’t be able to go to the net and get into the corners, for fear of being concussed again.

I’m glad that Simon is doing better. Nevertheless, as much as I want to see him back on the ice I want even more to see him live out his life in full health. Be cautious Simon, you have two little kids that need a dad more than the Kings need goals.

if we’ve learned something these past few years in sports it’s this: CONCUSSIONS ARE NO JOKE. just look at Marc Savard in Beantown…dude, take the money & walk away. when you sign a guy with a history of head injuries sometimes it works (Willie Mitchell, fingers crossed) and sometimes it doesn’t (Gagne).
[Reply]
Thats great news. Take it one day at a time.
[Reply]
In the old days it was “getting your bell rung” and there was no immediate diagnosis available. I’m sure many former players have had concussions without knowing about it.
[Reply]
Simon, I love you so much. I’m so happy to hear you got back on the ice. I hate that you’re no longer a Flyer but I will always root for you no matter what team you play for. You are the classiest player in the league. This concussion must be awful because you are such a tough competitor. Hang in there..I hope this is one small step toward a full and smooth recovery. You’re the best. #12 forever.

@GagneFan4Life, Good to see their are people who understand that life exists outside the rink & that these players are people and not robots. Gagne is a intelligent individual and he will make the right decision with his career.
We all love our team, favorite players and rooting against our rivals….but at what expense? It’s a game, nothing more…. We are passionate about it, that’s why we are fans but it’s still a game.
I dislike every team in the NHL (even the Flyers) but with ur comments you definitely have my respect.
