This is the only meeting of the season between the Kings and the New York Islanders. After a dreadful 5-11-4 start, the Islanders are actually 17-12-4 since late November, and they put together a 3-0-1 run before their 4-2 loss to Montreal on Thursday. For all their struggles, the Islanders have actually been pretty good on special teams, as they ranked seventh in the NHL on the power play and eighth on the penalty kill. Evgeni Nabokov is expected to get the start in goal for the Islanders. Nabokov played parts of four seasons under Darryl Sutter with the San Jose Sharks. Today, the Islanders will induct defenseman Kenny Jonsson, a former team captain, into their Hall of Fame. Jonsson spent parts of nine seasons (1996-2004) with the Islanders.
