Jonathan Quick’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
QUICK: “We didn’t get two points. That’s what we came here to do, and we came up short. We’ve got to regroup. We have a game tomorrow. That’s the good thing about this league. If you didn’t play as good as you wanted to, you get an opportunity the next night. So we’re going to get ready for tomorrow against Dallas.’’
He’s our MVP but it sure would be nice if he could look up the scoreboard one day and see a 3-0 lead.

@Johnny Virgil,
He reads our posts and laughs at the funny ones and that helps him keep things in perspective. Either that or his little child probably helps more with that than our posts do.
He is a special player, but it’s otherworldly that a guy can play that well and his team can’t help him enough to get a win. Just incredible.

I hate to say it because I have been a Kings fan since the days of Sheldon Kanegesser (if I spelled his name right) but this team is BORING!!!
Mr Lombardi:
You have to get some scoring and it will cost you some of your defense to get it. Get Nash or Carter at a good price and move on, and if you can get Hemsky at a resonable cost do it!!!
This team is going…………..NOWHERE…….FAST!!!
And from what I can see, the minors hold nothing in the near future in the way of a SCORING SNIPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@NB22, Yes I do. they are both snipers and would take the load off the other guys. With the addition of Hemsky it would provide a guy who has speed and is a majician with the puck. He isn’t scoring with Edmonton right now, but his talent is unmistakeable.
What is your solution to our current very BORING team?

@centericeman, Hemsky only has 4 goals this season. If we were to trade for him it would be to score, not set up other players. We have enough of that already. Carter and Nash would cost too much to get and that kind of trade is done more in the off season not trade deadline.
I really don’t care if the team plays boring, as long as they win. NJ played boring hockey and they won 2 cups. As for scoring all we need to do is trade for 1 or 2 mid level guys that can put the puck in the net. If our 2nd line gets going it would help the first line immensely and the 3rd and 4th line will be able to contribute a little every so often.

Solution? Maybe changing the system first? Or buying someone cheaper instead of Nash/Carter, who might suck as much as Penner? I don’t know, I’m not a GM or a coach.
centericeman Reply:

@NB22, Jeff_R:
Of course we can’t get Nash AND Carter, I said Nash OR Carter.
Yes they come at a high price and we would have to dump high producers like:
Stoll
Penner
Hunter
Richardson
And maybe have to part with one of our stoppers on defense, but such is the cost of having a team that is a threat on offense.
The status quo hasn’t worked now for at least 3 years. We have been in the bottom half of scoring for that long, and 5 on 5 scoring has been dismal for even longer.
Change at this point is not a consideration, it is a must. We have to win to attract players to come, and players to STAY.
As was expressed already on this thread does anyone think that Quick will stay with this team in its present ineptitude?
I for one can see him walking real easy!!!

26 wins—30 losses.
We are a losing team. And besides that a BORING team.
I want management to know. I used to avoid any type of information on games and watched them live! Because I wanted to expeience the game. Since we no longer score any more than 1 to 2 goals a game I started today just looking at the score first. Until such time as we figure out how to score and win games I will continue to just check in on the games.
I hope that management realizes that the current product isn’t entertaining at all!!!!!!!

@centericeman, 11 loses have come in OT and that is 11 pts. The fact that it is a loss is immaterial, as the rules are the same for every team. Now if the NHL was like the NBA and it was just wins and losses then it might be a problem, but the way the NHL is set up it works in the Kings favor.

@Jeff_R, If you havn’t noticed they dont’ have shootouts in the playoffs. They only have wins and losses. My point is still the same. We are a losing Hockey Team!
And until such time as we obtain scorers we will continue to be a losing hockey team.
What are you so afraid of to part with Bernier and maybe some other lesser parts for a scorer the likes of Nash or Carter? YOu think that Quick is coming up to contract and we need to keep bernier in case he walks? I say he WILL walk if we don’t upgrade this team so we have a chance. I see the argument completely opposite as you and maybe our management sees it!
If you think that this team is going anywhere then you have mucho faith.
You really think that once we get into the playoffs with teams like Detroit, Vancouver, San Jose, Chicago. You really think that we can beat one of those teams that actually have scorers AND can play defense?
You are dreaming!
We can’t even beat the Ilanders they are currently in 11th place.

@centericeman, one question… What’s a good price for Nash? Do you think Columbus would trade Nash for anything less than Bernie, Voynov and a couple very high picks? We don’t have enough to give up to get a player of Nash’s caliber.
[Reply]
centericeman Reply:

@Seems A Good Fellow, I think Columbus is looking to rebuild. Nash, at least according to rumors, is looking to go elsewhere. Columbus needs goal tending and if we could package that with Stoll, penner OR voynov, martinez or a combination of 2 of those 4 and maybe a 1st or 2nd I think that would be attractive to a team in that position.
What I do know and have posted is this team is going NOWHERE with out an infusion of scorers.
Maybe we have a coupld of those in the minors who might be able to help, but that is 2 to 3 years away.
If Mr. Lombardi was planning on buidling from the backend through the middle and then trading for the scoring wingers he needed with his surplus, well that time as come!!
If he wasn’t thinking that then His time as come!

@centericeman, First off yes we arent scoring a lot and I am sorry I put Carter and Nash. I certainly didn’t mean to trade for both. I also don’t believe in gutting the team to get someone like Nash and I really don’t think we will be that much better this year if we do. You ask what is wrong with trading Bernier now? Well the problem is if you do, then Quick walks who will be our Goalie? I personally am fine with either one, but with our scoring problems as they are I just dont know if paying Quick 7+ million is the right thing to do. If we get Parise that will be an 7-8 million a year guy. Even Nash is upwards of 8 million a year (close to it) I don’t feel our problems are that bad. With what we have now we are
Quick, you are the Los Angeles Kings for the 2011-2012 season, too bad no one else has come to play with you this season.
[Reply]
Hate to say it, but the Kings should be sellers at the trade deadline. If they want to keep quick, getting one new forward isn’t going to solve anything. Get other teams to give up way too much at the deadline for some of our players and rebuild over the summer for a real push next year. Bring in good wingers over the summer, lock up Quick long term, and make a push. It’s not going to happen this year. As much as I love this team, you can’t score 29 goals in Quick’s 24 losses and expect to win. Ever. It’s amazing that we have as many points as we do, and that’s all JQ.

@dmoney, Tell me why we have to gut this team and rebuild? We are only giving up 2 goals a game. If we make a trade for a scorer and start scoring 3 goals a game we will win more often then not. The way our defense and Quick is playing we don’t need to become an offensive dynamo. Just someone to replace Stoll and Penner (Nolan may stay) on the 2nd line will help immensely. Put Stoll back on the 3rd line Center where he belongs.

@Jeff_R, Only in that he can SCORE GOALS!!
But I guess we really don’t need that do we?
We can just keep being a “hard working team” and lose!
Well Matt had 30 goals in 2009, you know the year that we decided he wasn’t good enough for our team!
He had 31 goals last year, more than any other King!
Then he has 24 goals this year so far, more than anyone on our current roster.
Ah by those standards, yes he is a “top three guy”.
Any questions?
Jeff_R Reply:

@Jeff_R, If you can’t tell the difference between Matt Moulson scoring 30 goals on a horrible team and when he was with a team that was getting better he couldn’t do anything, I don’t think anything I say can change your mind. Matt is a top 3 guy on a lousy NY team playing with Tavares. I like to see if he can do it on another team that is good. A similar situation can be Mike Cammalleri. He wanted 6 million and Dean said why? You haven’t done anything but score on a horrible team. he traded him and now Mike is getting 6 million and doing nothing to warrant that contract.
I asy the Kings make an old fashioned hockey tarde with the blackhawks. They are desperatley needing a goalie and a puck moving d man to replace the departed Campbell. So maybe we offer up Bernier and JJ and maybe a forwrad/prospect/pick for Kane. Then in the off-season land another winger like Parise or a Semin. It’s a long shot but all i know is we need pure snipers if we want to make it past the first round and we have NONE in the system down in Manchester.

@andy, I, respectfully disagree…Chicago could not afford to take on DD s salary…they have some serious cap issues…and speaking of which…is it DD s play on the ice, or his salary you don’t like? Because I think the guy has picked it up steadily since he got back in…definitely a noticable progression in his game…I think you can be upset about all that money being tied to the salary cap, but don’t be upset with DD or his agent…they were just getting what they could get…if you want to be angry with someone, then it should be DL…I only say it because you stated that “you wish it were DD”…I’m tellin you, if DD is traded we as Kings fans will have given up possibly the best Defensemen this organization has ever drafted…and will see him win Norris trophies elsewhere…ugh, that would be horrid

Loved the game he played today. Kings didn’t give up a lot of chances but the ones they gave up were golden opportunities. Any other goalie in the league and this is a 4-1 loss in regulation. The sequence with the two saves on the rebound and the third laid out on his side was just ridiculous. Then he follows it up with the sweet glove save on the cross ice one timer. Love the way he’s chippy with the refs and the other players, throwing the left body blow.
So he shows up to win every game, stands up for his teammates, gets in the refs grill… why not slap a “C” on the corner of his sweater?

IMO Quick is starting to show signs of frustration–surprised it was not sooner–and they should give our MVP some rest. Since its not going to be rest by giving him 3 goal leads with this lot DL put together, IMO we should see Bernier start a few more games just to give Quick some mental breathers.
Also IMO, the AHL boys put Penner and Stoll to shame. Jim Fox even said the Richards line spent more time in the O-zone then he’d seen in awhile. I’d be curious to see Corsi and time zone breakdowns for them. DL’s had five years to build organizational depth so let’s see if he succeeded. Doubt it since DL chose to trade away so many #1 picks to supposedly improve a team barely making the playoffs.

And King and Nolan showed why the Kings miss Smyth and Zeus so much. Penner’s size doesn’t match his smallish play and each of these two big boys has twice the hockey sense and four times as much grit as Penner….
