We’ll get to the arrival of the rookie forwards, and tomorrow’s lineup, in a bit, but first, Jarret Stoll talked about the injury he suffered last night. Stoll said he suffered an injury to his abductor (hip) muscle. By being put on injured reserve today, Stoll will be out of the lineup for at least one week. Stoll missed the final seven-plus minutes of last night’s game but said the injury initially took place before that.
STOLL: “I don’t know if you’d call it a tweak or whatever. It’s kind of a similar thing to what I did two or three years ago, with my abductor. I felt it in the second period and I knew it was weak. Then I took one more hit, on kind of a weird play. … I was striding and I was kind of extending my one leg, and he hit me, right at kind of the perfect timing for that. I knew right away. If I tried to keep going on it, it would probably tear or rip or whatever. So, I don’t expect to be out too long. Just treat it, treat it, treat it, and hopefully be back soon.’’
Would it be wrong to wish that it was Penner with the injury insterad?

Might miss him in the face-off circle but this year he is a liability everywhere else. I can’t see the rookies giving us much less than what Stoll has been doing this season.
And that goes for most of the forwards BTW. Actually ALL of the forwards except maybe Kopi, but even he is below his career averages.
This season has been incredibly frustrating and I’m over it. Time to start over with yet ANOTHER 5 year plan. Sheesh, what a joke. I can’t believe I actually thought we were a contender at the beginning of the year.

Kozun
Toffoli
Vey
Weal
Kitsyn
Nolan
Holloway
Moeller
On defense we have these, if they are still around….
Muzzin
Hickey
Voynov
As for UFA’s not sure who is available after Parise and Semin. We will most likely go hard after Parise. I know we have been batting zero on UFA’s since DL took over, but I feel our best shot is with Parise. We have a big chip in obtaining him in Jack Johnson as they both attended Shattuck St Marys and they are friends. There is also Dustin Brown and Quick as they all were on Team USA Olympic team, so we have that. Not to mention that we are Stanley Cup contenders and a Young team.

@neil, We are only 3-5 pts behind Chicago and 2-4 pts behind San Jose (depending on tonights Hawks/Sharks game.) Passing San Jose puts us in 3rd place in the conference and yes I know they have 3 games in hand (after tonight) but they also after tonight go on an 9 game road trip in the next 14 days. Alot of where the Kings and Sharks stand will be figured out after that trip. The trip ends Sunday and that Monday is the trading deadline. Both the Sharks and Kings could look a lot different after that Monday. Another stat that needs to be looked at is the ROW stat of the standings. Right now San Jose has 23 regulation wins and the Kings have 22. Any team that makes the playoffs are Stanley Cup contenders.
As for next season the Cap is going to go up, plus it will most likely look somewhat different as a new CBA will be hammered out this offseason. The Kings need to re-sign Mitchell and that will mostly be done probably before this season ends. As for Quick he doesn’t need to be re-signed until next season, although they can start talking after July 1st. Once they decide whether or not they are going to re-sign Quick or not then you will see Bernier or Quick traded for offense help. Hunter is most likely gone, Fraser could be re-signed and Lewis and Richie are still under contract next season. Our forwards that have a chance to make the team next season include Kozun, Vey, Toffoli, Kitsyn and those in Manchester now. The Kings will have 7+ million to spend with Penner and Stoll being UFA and another 3+ depending on Gagne’s situation. I really don’t care what experts say, it isn’t like they have been right about a whole lot anyway. Plus most of those so called experts are from the East and rarely even notice the Kings. Plus who knows DL may strike it rich and finally get a UFA (Parise) to come here.
i’m sorry to hear this…
hopefully stoll heals up sooner than later…
but…
it’s kind of apropo that it’s stoll’s abductor muscle, since his offense this year has been abducted by some evil spirit…

This is a roll of the dice to doubt. But how can u guys be mad at dl? He put together a team with 6 players who SHOULD have scored 20+ each and parse and stoll shouod have been good for 15 ish. He built from the back and our d and goalies is top notch. In my mind he’s responsible for getting the pieces and installing an overall philosophy of play style (defense first). Nobody here or anywhere in the hockey world would have predicted the individual players on the team to have such horrid numbers. In my mind it has nothing to do with dl. The players and coaches are responsible for the end product on the ice. Dean has done a great job at what he is responsible for doing, putting the pieces together.
Now I’m not happy with the players numbers, the injuries, the lack of backup talent to fill in at forwards, and the lack of effort shown in games often times but out of all that the only thing that’s dl’s fault is the lack of backup forwards. So I feel our position is mostly on the shoulders of the players and coaching staff. Not dl. But hey we are still knocking on the door of first in the pacific so it could be worse

i don’t think tm has the authority to approve/disapprove of a system that was implemented by his superior and that he was hired to execute…
if anything, tm did have many problems getting the best out of his players…sutter is having many of the same problems getting consistency and offensive production, even though his level of tactics and communication have proven to be better than tm’s…
again, sometimes it’s just the players fault…and nobody else to blame…
that seems to be what they have said repeatedly since the change…

@Cortex949,
For once, an attempt at some sanity. If the players that DL brought in could have just played TO THEIR AVERAGE, the team would be in much better shape for the playoffs. It is not solely on DL’s fault that they have underperformed so badly. I also don’t believe it was all TM’s fault either.
For some reason, maybe it’s the “system” (or at least partly), but the players on this roster have not found any sort of groove or chemistry with each other on the offensive side. Without the stellar play of Quick and the defense, we’re chasing last place, let alone a playoff spot.
At some point, the players have to take the blame. Calling for management’s head when the players aren’t even living up to their average (let alone potential) seems like overlooking the fact that it’s the players on the ice that aren’t producing.
Sutter’s arrival seemed to inject some life or interest in this team, but I think that he could only do so much with these players in such a short time. He really needs a full offseason and camp to instill and reinforce what he wants.
[Reply]
Jeff_R Reply:
February 10th, 2012 at 3:52 pm
@vplaza, I agree with this statement. The problem does not solely belong to DL. The players he has brought in have shown in the past that they can score, they for some reason aren’t doing it now. I don’t blame DL, coaches. I blame the players for not living up to ours and their expectations. This isn’t about systems, philosophies etc. I sincerely doubt that DL wants a team that only plays defensive and doesn’t care about offense. He wasn’t in San Jose and he isn’t here. Unfortunately we are in the position we are because of unforseen circumstances…..Holloway and Moeller bolting to Sweden, long term injuries to Parse and Gagne and the lack of scoring from usual suspects like Penner and Stoll. My only fault with DL is not making a move sooner, but I think the coaching change helped him to wait as we have done well pretty much since Darryl took over. However hopefully Stoll’s injury will allow these two rookies to come in and jump start our offense, even if they don’t score themselves. Hopefully it will allow us to stay afloat until the deadline.

Heh. Don’t know who’s doing this lineup changes DL or DS? Either way, this is an obvious destruction. You punish one guy and let others remain intact. That is called scapegoat.
Penner’s mistake was horrible, and cost us FL’s 2nd goal. But what about Brown? His mistake( losing the puck while FL’s D broke his stick) didn’t lead to visible damage but it could have been our best chance to score the goal.
Did Williams play well? No. He was doing too much puck handling again. How many times he lost the puck while doing it?
Did Lewis create any scoring chances? Oh, yea. He did once when Richie calling for the puck behind FL’s D line, he carried the puck himself instead of passing, and did that shoot right into the goalie’s pad move again. Who the hell are you? You scored on 1 breakaway and 1 penalty shot doesn’t make you a legitimate goal scorer. In fact you never will be.
And Quick. I know it wasn’t his fault. It was Penner. But he needs to be ready for anything. I mean turnover happens, and sometimes it happens in a critical situation like that but he can’t rely on the defensive system so much. IMHO, he was not mentally prepared for an irregular play. When he does that he will be the best goalie in the league.
And the management. Hey, if you think you can change things by making a scapegoat, go ahead and do it. But once you do that, you will have to do that again, and it will never end. Who’s gonna be your next scapegoat?
