    @PaulCat, Until such time as management realizes that we don’t have the forwards that can score, address the problem. We will be very LUCKY to make the playoffs and will lose quickly and decisivly to the first team we play.

    As soon as this team gets behind by a goal, our prospects are very slim for victory, as soon as we get down by 2. the perverbial snowball stands a better chance!!

    This team is inept at scoring and some, I say some, of the blame lies directly on our inability to recognize scoring talent and draft it!!

    Old subject, but pertanient!!

    [Reply]

    NB22 Reply:

    @DEH,

    5 years for this? Wow …

    DEH Reply:

    @DEH, his idea of building a team is from the back then down the middle. Which he did, we are strong at goalie, Defense, and Center… just no wingers. And the slap in the face, he seems to have totally forgotten about that position. No wingers drafted, good wingers let go so we can sign more centers, good wingers traded and look at the minors… again no wingers. Should’ve built a balanced roster than a center/back heavy one.

    DEH Reply:

    @Kevin, we he’s finally playing with wingers who are playing on their actual wing and not converted centers or wingers playing the off wing (Penner is a right winger [see edm + ana], why we don’t play him on the right is beyond me).

    [Reply]

    nykingfan Reply:

    @DEH,
    Is that an excuse for playing without passion?

    [Reply]

    DEH Reply:

    @nykingfan, passion isn’t the problem, I think every winger to the puck is passion. The problem is people being out of position hence not able to score.

    In the Net Reply:

    @nykingfan, I think passion is exactly the problem. If DP had passion he would work on his stamina more. I don’t care if he is a big “glider” like he has said, if he was working his legs like 99% of all the other hockey players in the league, he’d get into position more. Face it, he’s lazy.

    DEH Reply:

    @In the Net, so only penner can score? Last I checked there are a lot of player who aren’t scoring besides Penner.

    Gary Reply:

    @DEH, Uh… he played LW in ANA, with Getzlaf C, and Perry RW, as a 2nd line. Their top line was Kunitz-McDonald-Selanne. I think he played LW in EDM, also.

    [Reply]

    IceGuy Reply:

    @KingsFanFTW,
    At this point, I’m not so sure Richards is going to be that upset.
    What were Penner and Stoll doing to help him out?
    Not much.
    So, if I’m Sutter, I pull Mike aside and challenge him; “Look, Mike, I know your year has been a big disappointment so far. No argument. So here’s the deal. Here’s two hungry guys playing their actual positions. You’ve been a Captain. Captain these guys. Teach ‘em the Game. Add these two guys to YOUR game, kick some ass and take some names. Smack ‘em upside the head if they don’t listen. Do what you gotta do, but you can do this. I know you can. Make me a Mike Richards Line. You got two weeks.”

    I personally think Richards would respond to a challenge like that.

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @IceGuy, that would be awesome! And it would put some added “captain”ing responsibility on MR, which might be just what he needs!

    [Reply]

    Deke'r Reply:

    @Stuart, …except for the fact he said when he came to LA he didn’t want the C….

    Stuart Reply:

    @Deke’r, a) Of course he’s going to say that, would it’ve been right if he would said I hope to have the C that is being worn by DB? NO.
    b) My comment was refering to saddling him some “captain”ing (meaning captain-like, captain-ish, quasi-captain) responsibilty so that he feels a bigger claim to the team and it would be my hopes that he would be more emotionally invested in its well-doing…

    [Reply]

    number 6 Reply:

    @Helvetica….

    wrt to what you say about players cut out for first line duty; to me it’s an indictment of Dean Lombardi. I do Not like harping on about this, but it’s rather a fact.

    Kopi and Brown were already here when he arrived almost six years ago.
    Consider; in not even three years, Brian Burke made moves and created a flying first line in Toronto. In spite of the criticism for what he gave up to get Kessel, he now has a fantastic first line w Lupol.

    The Kings still don’t have a legit first line after five years of a build? I don’t know how he can’t be held accountable for that. Given that we already had Kopi, and he got JW who is acceptable as a 1a first liner, how he could not fill in with either a first line left wing or right wing is completely and utterly beyond me.

    DEH Reply:

    @Helvetica, Brown is a third liner and Williams is a second liner.

    [Reply]

    Helvetica Reply:

    @DEH, That’s sort of how i see them too. Williams is a 2nd line guy that can jump up to 1st line for short stretches. Brown is a 3rd line guy that can handle 2nd line duties. Neither of them is trully cut out for first line duties in my mind.

    Gary Reply:

    @DEH, Anyone notice how little Kopitar scores 5-on-5, or how little he really makes players around him better?

    DEH Reply:

    @Gary, that’s why I’ve been saying Kopitar should play the wing with Richards centering. Give Stoll second line center duties. Kopitar can finish, Richards can be the playmaker. Once you get Kopi in the finisher mindset and not the set-up man he will perform much better.

    MindGeyser Reply:

    @Helvetica, What’s your definition of a first liner? Are there 90 of them in the NHL?

    [Reply]

    Helvetica Reply:

    @MindGeyser, My definition? Come on man. You look at Brown and Williams and tell me you think they BELONG in the top 3. Williams to me is a fill in on first line, and Brown should clearly be down on the 2nd line. They play on the 1st line because they are our best wingers, but that speaks more to our depth at the forward position than it does to their ability.

    Sad thing is, of the 13 forwards listed, plus Parse, Stoll and Richardson. I’d keep only 8 going forward:

    Brown, Kopitar, Williams, Richards, Clifford, Westgarth (for muscle), Parse (one last chance), Lotionov (Still young).

    That leaves a lot of holes and sums up why we can’t score. We have a first and fourth line, no third line, and 1/3 of a second line.

    i imagine yr referring to parse…i just wonder if he’s ever gonna be the same again physiologically, let alone, being able to skate well again…he now has both hips replaced, so he’s inching closer to being the six-million dollar man, only in regards to medical costs, not proven talent or contract-value…it’s a shame, because like many on here, i thought parse was good for about 20-30 goals this season…i hope he can live a normal life…anything else he accomplishes is a bonus at this point…

    Michael J. Reply:

    @variable,

    Hips replaced? Who does he think he is? Bo Jackson?

    I thought he had surgery, not replacements. In that case he’s the $60,000,000 man!

    @tornado12,
    If you wanted to give the guy a “last chance”, sign him to a TWO WAY $500,000 contract, with incentives. He’s going to have to find his game again, if he can, and he should do that in Manchester. Maybe he can come up, but he’s got to agree to go back down.

I mean seriously, Stare at that offensive group and tell me you feel good about it. I mean anything can happen and maybe some fresh faces will do this team some good, but… look at that.

    Why keep Brown on the 1st line? He is just taking touches away from Kopitar. Many times Brown tries to carry the puck in the zone and more often then not makes poor decisions. What results next is usually a turnover or a very short possesion in the O zone. Move Brown away from the 1st line and into the 2nd. He seems to defer the puck to Richards when he is there.

    This is a roll of the dice to doubt. But how can u guys be mad at dl? He put together a team with 6 players who SHOULD have scored 20+ each and parse and stoll shouod have been good for 15 ish. He built from the back and our d and goalies is top notch. In my mind he’s responsible for getting the pieces and installing an overall philosophy of play style (defense first). Nobody here or anywhere in the hockey world would have predicted the individual players on the team to have such horrid numbers. In my mind it has nothing to do with dl. The players and coaches are responsible for the end product on the ice. Dean has done a great job at what he is responsible for doing, putting the pieces together.

    Now I’m not happy with the players numbers, the injuries, the lack of backup talent to fill in at forwards, and the lack of effort shown in games often times but out of all that the only thing that’s dl’s fault is the lack of backup forwards. So I feel our position is mostly on the shoulders of the players and coaching staff. Not dl. But hey we are still knocking on the door of first in the pacific so it could be worse

    He Shoots, He Scores Reply:

    @Cortex949,
    I agree with you to an extent, but when you look at the decisions he’s made, you can point to short-term mistakes concerning judgment.

    Penner, unless he miraculously helps us in the playoffs this year, has been a huge mistake. Hickey hasn’t worked out so far, Teubert is gone, both high 1st round picks. Smyth not his fault, but instead of Gagne, could have gone with Fleischmann or even Versteeg.

    When you look at some of the waiver-wire guys, Nystrom having a great year in Dallas, Brule pitching in with Phoenix.

    In his defense, Dean’s sticking with his guys. Moreau should have worked out, Gagne was always a question mark (health-wise), but the book isn’t closed on that one. The Richards trade should still be considered a good trade, most expected more out of Clifford/Lewis/Richardson/Loktionov, – hard to predict that these guys wouldn’t get lucky every once in a while.

    Let’s hope Toffoli pans out, Bernier nets us a usable forward, we fill some holes in the offseason, and Quick doesn’t leave us at the altar.

    [Reply]

    rick Reply:

    @Cortex949, The real problem as I see it is that there is no Plan B. Guys like Penner and Gagne were known risks from day one. Sure, it all looked good on paper, but there has to be some top 6 depth in case things don’t work out. THAT is where Lombardi has failed miserably. The very fact that the call ups to play with a center like Richards are two grinders from the minors speaks volumes.

    [Reply]

    number 6 Reply:

    @rick,

    Agree with you that it looked good on paper, but you can’t make moves based on what looks good on paper.
    You can also flip it on it’s head. Steve Yzerman knew that Gagne was a huge risk based on this inability to stay healthy so he offered only a one year contract. That means, while he couldn’t be certain, that he felt it not worth the risk.

    A lot of the Edmonton press complained about Penner as did many of the fans…..even while he scored goals for them. I wonder why they would have complained about Penner. Oh, now we know.
    You’ve gotta be Careful when you make moves. I can see the Gagne move. A risk but why not. But Penner for TWO FIRSTS (Teubert + 2011) and a third? Really, you’ve gotta be kidding me.

    Toffoli is encouraging, BUT keep in mind that he’s a center…. and a small guy. So, either someone leaves in the center group (Lokti, for whom they won’t get anything – I don’t know too many players who will bring back assets w/o scoring a goal)…. or…. they move Toffoli to wing and misuse yet another asset. Didn’t work with Oscar Moller.

    You can’t make this stuff up.

    Interesting UFAs in the offseason:

    Parise – would be awesome, but probably not happening
    Semin – take a chance on a mini-Penner? No thanks.
    Huselius – recently made of glass, can’t afford to have him and Gagne on the same team
    Doan – would love to have this guy on a two year deal
    Hemsky – another injury-prone guy, but could see him fitting in
    Selanne – dream on.
    Blake – could see him in a 3rd line role
    Ruutu – eh, if we’ve got space
    Jagr – not happening
    Whitney – good fit, in favor on a 1 or two year deal
    Kostitsyn – talented, but baggage is a turnoff
    Hejduk – not happening
    Jokinen – don’t see an obvious fit, although LA is filled with McDonald’s
    Grabovski – my absolute favorite on the market – please sign this guy!
    Hudler – would be a great under-the-radar signing
    Langenbrunner – eh…
    Arnott – still got some game
    Jones – take a risk with a question mark?
    Winnik – good possession guy, big body
    Moen – good 3rd line guy
    Brodziak – another great 3rd line guy
    Dvorak – having a great season, but how long can he do it for?
    Thornton – love the toughness, want as a 4th line guy
    Lesser guys and over-the-hillers: Kelly, Brunette, Knuble, Bertuzzi, Stempniak, Holmstrom, Sullivan, Prust

When players (Moulson, Purcell, Simmonds, Schenn) go to clubs with a better, more aggressive offensive style their talent to score can come through. We are supposed to be the Flyers west? BS. Watch a Flyers game. They are magnitudes more aggressive offensively than we are. The style we play died during the lockout. Now someone needs to tell Jamie Kompon.

    I bet in his wildest dream, Richards did not see playing with 2 AHL players. DS is out of his mind! And sending Voinov to AHL is another proof that Kings organization doesn’t like European players. A trully believe, that one of the reasons why Kings can not score goal, is because they has no Europeans players. The only one on a team is Anze Kopitar. Ang guess what? He is a best Kings player! But he is the only one (I don’t count Lokti, he is a rookie) All elite teams have european players. Just look at Vancouver, Detroit, Boston,Pittsburgh and so on…

    You would think that Penner would be embarrassed at the way he’s playing and that he’s now in danger of being dropped to the 4th line or the press box. He had the skills to score in the NHL (at least he did a few years ago) but the desire/heart/hustle isn’t there. How can this guy not be motivated to bust his rear every shift, especially in the final year of his contract? I don’t get him but I can’t wait until July 1st when his contract expires. I’m sick of getting pissed off watching this team learn nothing from their mistakes, cant pass and cant score and that’s not going to change as long as we keep this current group of players.
