Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
BROWN: “We were down 2-0, and in the situation that we’re in, we shouldn’t be at the point in the game where we’re trying to come back with two goals in less than five minutes. We started the game, in the first, really well but just couldn’t find the back of the net. In the second period, for whatever reason we had a letdown and they found a few soft areas to score some goals. It’s more of the same for us. We’ve got to find a way to score more goals.’’
(on the early power-play failure…)
BROWN: “That was in the first (period), and I thought we moved the puck well on the power play. We had good chances. Clemmensen made a couple saves in the first for them. I thought our power play actually had good movement tonight.’’
(on Sutter pulling Jonathan Quick…)
BROWN: “Yeah, sometimes you change your goalie… Quicker really didn’t have a chance on either one of those goals. I don’t think it was a decision made based on Quicker’s play. It was more about sending a message to everyone else.’’
“We’ve got to find a way to score more goals.’’
I’ve read that before this season. Yeah, so far four games into the road trip, you eliminate the TB game and it’s two goals in three games. I suppose Brownie’s right then.

@number 6, How many times have we read this stuff after a loss? Don’t ever interview this guy again. Great member of the community, but man. This guy should be every bit as responsible for how bad HIS team is playing. I’ve never heard him say “I could have done more” It’s always “We didn’t do this”.
Man up.
I bet a guy like Johnson would really rise to the occasion. I am by no means saying he is a captain. But some guys do more as a captain. He seems to do less. We need someone who is dying to lead this team out of this. Bash brothers? or maybe RICHARDS! King Richards will bring the Kings a cup well before D.B. does.

@jonsey, He’s a younger version of tight-lipped-Terry… He was the perfect captain for a TM run team, doesn’t ask questions, toes the line, has the shot-mentality at all costs, and gives same answers over and over and over…
it’s time for a change.

He is no captain, not a leader. A big reason why this team plays the it does, no heart. A real captain would lead by example and not tolerate dead weight like we have.

@Chris05,
Than nobody on the team falls under that category. The only difference between Brown and anybody else is, Brown has a “C” on his jersey. If the other guys are waiting till someone sows the “C” on their Jersey before they can lead, then we’re all in trouble. Brown, Mitchell, Kopi, Richards, and everybody else is working as hard as possible, and leading in their own ways.

“….we shouldn’t be at the point in the game where we’re trying to come back…”
Try? TRY?? There was no trying Brown. That’s a pathetic display of hockey to the fullest. What a waste of 2 1/2 hours. This team has absolutely no heart whatsoever. They don’t care at all. In my opinion, the only untouchable on this team is Quick. Everyone else can get traded. Bunch of losers.

Hey, captain. You can’t blame anyone else but youeself today. FL’s D-man broke his stick and we were keeping the puck in their zone, all you have to do was keep the pressure on. But what happened was you lost the puck and the chance was wasted. You got double-teamed? so what? Kopi gets it all the time but he keeps the puck most of the time. Keeping the puck in the zone at all cost was the must do but you failed. I was hoping you led this team by example today but you showed a bad example instead.

@jonsey, I agree to an extent, but Brown is third (I believe, correct me if I’m wrong) in goals. They’re all suffering a drought. Brown doesn’t need to go, but Penner isn’t panning out, Stoll is struggling without Smyth, and Brown isn’t doing any worse than the rest of the guys at this point. Something is happening in the locker room, and Williams seems to be finely tuned into Sutter, as well as Kopitar, but some of these guys just don’t seem like they’re interested..

We had some LAZY players tonight. That was a god-awful play by penner not to stick with his man. I thought quick should of stopped the first goal, but it was such a tough shot to pick up.
Hoping for a better defensive/offensive try from us on Saturday.

@Lake Forest, ujnfortunately, the blog can be a place to vent…and I am as guilty as anyone for not remaining positive and realizing that tomorrow is another day, but this style of hockey that the Kings play is not pleasing to the eye and if it doesn’t bring results,…i.e., wins, then the organization opens itself up for ridicule. I would take it a step further and say that I am sick of this system or style of play…I want to see a completely different approach. One that utilizes the players talents and not one that stifles their creative instincts

@Lake Forest, Agree Penner made a bad call but that wasnt his man…. his job is to cover the point and he felt he had help down low and so was checking the point guy to make sure he didnt try to sneak in. That said, Penner is pretty much useless except for a front-net presence and the Kings never get the puck to him there; otherwise hes too slwo and has no hands as far as puck-handling and passing.

This shouldn’t be a place for crybabies to come here and whine only when the Kings lose, this should be a place for *real* fans to show their frustration without writing every player that isn’t producing off like they’re trash. I’m behind my team 100%, even though none of them are living up to potential I still see a team of great hockey players… its just too bad they can only play great hockey once a week.
[Reply]
Are we really this bad!!! Great sit Penner, little over due don’t you think. What do we do now? This is getting a bit old. We haven’t gone on any sort of win streak and our team plays up and down. This is turning into one of the most disappointing seasons ever. Yes we win a few games, but with all the crap this organization had feed us it’s hard staying the course. I mean I’m not going anywhere, I’ll still root for our Kings. We need a win and we’ll get one next game. It’s just hard because deep down I know these guys are better than what we have seen. There may be some bad weeds that have to go. Really I did not think we would be the worst scoring team in hockey. None of us saw this coming, did we? We are still after all the bad hockey we have played in the playoff picture. But if crap don’t turn around soon we are going to be playing spoiler for some other clubs. Anyway I still have our teams back. Sutter needs to start benching guys and try to get some kind of fire started within these players heads. I know we can play better!

@King Charles of Salt Lake, see, now if the ultimate cheerleader ( and I mean that in a good way) is frustrated and fed up, then I know what I am feeling is on point…The signs have been there all season long…this team is very inconsistant due to the lack of goal scoring…and that lack of goal scoring is starting to wear on them…JQ had a rare off-night ( and even though I can’t blame him for not getting those shots…on most nights he stops at least one if not both) If JQ starts to lose confidence…oh never mind…don’t even want to think about that
[Reply]
Many people were blaming TM for this team’s lack of success, but since he is no longer at the helm it’s obvious he really wasn’t the cause. It is obviously something lacking inside a few of the players on this team that has become the cancer that will destroy this team. With the signing of DD to a huge contract and the addition of Richards and Gagne in the off season, there were high expectations for the Kings this season. Now, the way I see it, and that in itself means nothing, is there are going to be some major changes in personnel by the end of February, and I honestly think EVERYONE is fair game. Maybe that is what some of the guys on this team actually are hoping for. The management of the Kings knows it has an obligation to all of the people who spend their hard earned money to support the Kings or else seats will be empty before long. I feel the trade winds blowing.

@JD, Terry Murrays system is still here. Kings are still too defensive, and are still a puck management team. for those of you who think blowing up the team is a good idea, i think that is your own frustration getting the best of you…Sure, I think a trade or little shake up might help, but the crux of the matter is in the front office and lyes squarely at the doorstep of Dean Lombardi…see, he is the architect of this team…of this system…of this 5 year plan…
He is the architect of a team that can’t score…a system that yields poor results…and a five year plan that hasn’t gotten this team out of the first round of the playoffs and probably won’t make the playoffs this year…
You’re frustrated…I get it…DL went off on the players after he fired TM…he put it all on them…Dl will not see another year as GM for the Kings…

Awful the way some people slam the captain who led us out of a dark age into a playoff-worthy team… if you look at his stats, he’s actually producing more than most players on the team. He’s third in goals (not saying much, as the Kings aren’t scoring that many) but the fact remains he’s doing his part. If Brown needs to go, you could say the same for every other forward besides Kopitar and Williams. Relax fellas, Brown’s a young captain, I know, but he doesn’t have a whole lot to work with in my opinion. And as for hitting (to the guy who said “big deal”) hitting is something the Kings NEED to be doing. Lack of physical play is losing their games.

@Sean, well said…I think his game has suffered big time from the Shanny era…It’s like shakespeare…”To hit, or not to hit”…or… when you can hit , for that matter…I know all you Shanny fans don’t want me blaming him for DB s supposed lack of impact this year ( and I say that because even though he is top ten in hits, his hits haven’t been the kind that make an impact or effect the game like in years past)but the simple fact of the matter is, DB is playing a more cautious game out there now…and that is not good news for Kings fans

When is enough enough???? Now. We have been sinking (stinking) for quite some time. We have tried some things and yes, there is a slight improvement in points (“eaking” out one pointers) but the fundamental problems remain. Clearly something further needs to be done. But what? I say make some trades AND loosen up the system to be more offensively oriented. We just don’t have closers on this team and that comes fro the top lines. Can’t blame the 3rd and 4th liners very much. This is a top six issue. Get Quick and Kopi some help. Everyone elses is expendable as far as I’m concerned. Seems Liewicke is waiting to see if we make the playoffs with what we have first. Good luck with that. But if by some chance we get lucky, first round exit. There is no “it” here.
[Reply]
I wonder if the trades of Smyth, Handzus and Simmonds made a weird psychological mark on this team..It was a very young core that had been together for some time (I know Smyth and Handzus are not young), but that chemistry they had was a weapon in itself. The grit, tenacity, and swagger is gone along with those players. The remaining bunch just couldnt cope very well.
and when the trades didnt work, they had nothing to fall back to,,,at least they fought so much harder last year, at least what I can remember. I know no one like the play along the boards, but I thought they were consistently winning most of those battles. It was nice to see.
When the trade happened, I mentioned..not worth destroying this chemistry…they should have just changed coaches maybe. This team with all departed players with Sutter might have done quite well.

@jack, Not having Zus and Smyth is a huge whole and it is a big reason why our team is what it is. Can you imagine Zus playing wing on Richards line with Smyth on the other wing in front of the net!! I don’t care what you nay sayers say about Zus, the guy was a player and got stuff done and should have been re-signed (DL mistake #472) instead of paying millions to Gagne (DL mistake #498) who is made of glass and was destined from the start to go on IR. We had Smyth for another year and DL lets the lying home sick baby walk for nothing in return (DL mistake #480). Penners salary should have been dumped, waived or traded and that money should have been spent on Smyth’s contract that he agreed to!!!
Bad moves DL our team was so close and solid last year. Just keeping what we had last year (minus Penner & Simmons) and adding Richards + a healthy Kopitar would have taken this team far. DL You have taken us backwards I am sickend to say.
