Game 52: Blues 1, Kings 0 (FINAL)

Make sure all of your coulombs are ready to go. The Kings start their “Grammy trip” in St. Louis tonight against the Blues, with all the action on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, with all the game updates here as well…

THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Halak.
End of period: Darryl Sutter swapped wingers Justin Williams and Dustin Penner in the third period to try to generate some offense, but the Kings were shut out for the sixth time this season. The Blues outshot the Kings 33-21.

SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Halak.
Blues 1, Kings 0: The Blues broke the scoreless tie 8:38 into the second period. Drew Doughty tried to line up Matt D’Agostini for a hip check along the boards in the Kings’ zone, but D’Agostini fought through it. That led to a 2-on-1 chance with Jamie Langenbrunner, and D’Agostini passed across to Langenbrunner for the one-time goal. Alex Pietrangelo also got an assist.
End of period: The Blues outshot the Kings 13-8 in the period. The Kings went 0-for-1 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. The Kings got better play from Quick in the period but had only flurries of offensive pressure.

FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Blues’ Jaroslav Halak.
End of period: The Kings recorded five of the first six shots, but the Blues outshot the Kings 12-6 in the scoreless, penalty-free period. The Blues had more sustained pressure throughout the period and also had success with their forecheck, while the Kings struggled at times with offensive-zone recovery. St. Louis’ David Perron hit the post at the 10:17 mark, and the Blues nearly scored a couple other times, after Quick left rebounds in prime scoring areas.

It’s because we don’t have forwards (for the most part w a few exceptions) that have a touch around the net. That has nothing to do w coaching as you say. It has to do with drafting and the types of players DL likes.

its hard to criticize the team, as no one knows what the hell DS is telling the players. Because interviewing them doesnt shed light on anything. If they make mysterious decisions, they always defend them with some old tired cliche….In pro sports, sometimes there isnt really any accountability until the day you get fired…by then a lot of wasted money and time went by.

    @jack,

How about this from your coach: “I thought the other team played really well”

you know, i wonder if this slump has soured the whole thing for good…People start not believing in themselves or their teammates. Chemistry is gone..And maybe to never be regained until you change your environment and get a fresh start.

We dont seem to have that high intensity guy ala Malkin that players can rally behind. Without that kind of player, hard to rebound from funks. There will be a time when its going to be very hard to get pumped up getting up in the morning, if this already hasnt happened.

How much did Doughty get paid for this loss? 1 mistake, 1 goal, 1 loss, #8

Let me know if you’ve heard this story before? Quick stands on his head, Doughty gives up another goal, and Kings can not score! Penner needs to go asap. I don’t care if nobody takes his contract. Cut him, don’t even send him to the minors. Worse game Justin Williams has played. Please get Richards some help on that line! HELP Dean.

We need a shake up. Too many lack luster games with no offense. Where is Mike Richards? Are you kidding me? This is the guy that was going to get us to the next step? He hasnt done anything consistant for weeks. Kopitar…Really? Wake up! Ever guess why you didn’t make the All-Star team? Justin Williams is our offensive threat? C’mon…I’m sorry JW but thats a joke. The three top offensive players on this team should be Kopitar, Richards, and Penner. We have one line? Still? Hey DM…it’s not working…and it never did…forget character…get scorers….get Nash, Iginla, whoever is the most expensive offensive trade bait out there. Hurry….we’re running out of time

@TiredOfIt, P.S. Long time Kings fans remember…..How many players have left this team only to become offensive stars on other teams….Just a thought…can you say Curse?
