Give credit to Dustin Penner for having a sense of humor about himself. The whole “Penner hurt himself eating pancakes’’ story got real silly, real fast, but Penner is making something positive out of it by participating in a charity event on Feb. 13 called “Pancakes With Penner.’’ Fans can enter a raffle for a chance to eat a pancake breakfast with Penner in Westchester, as well as receive an autographed card and other prizes. Full details are available at www.lakings.com/pancakes. Proceeds benefit the Kings Care Foundation.
Honestly, I’m most impressed by the fact that Penner is doing this at 8 a.m. the day after an 11-day road trip. He’s much braver than I. Kudos to him for making the best of this, all around.

What made me the most optomistic is that it was the first Penner-type goal Ive seen him score since the first one he scored as a King. Not a tip in or a deflection. It was one of those absolutely wicked wristers top shelf that I remember from his Anaheim days. That’s what I was hoping for when we got him. That was a goal scorer’s goal.

See, that’s why I want Penner to do well. He’s genuinely a good guy, anyone else would be trying to get rid of this as fast as possible because it’s embarrassing, but he’s using it to raise money for charity. Plus, he took a lot of flak from the fans while he was in Edmonton, but was a good soldier through it all (that’s where I live, and he took a lot of abuse). He seems like a good teammate, and most importantly, has been playing much better lately, so hopefully the goals start coming.

Not that anyone cares anymore, after all we got and will keep the two points from last night but all the talk on NHL network I decided to time the clock in super slow mo.
Basically the time between 2.0 and 1.0 seconds lasted two seconds. Exactly. Hehe. I timed it at 1/60th speed. To set the bench marks, I timed the time from 3.0 to 2.0 and it was the same as from 1.0 to 0.0. From 2.0 to 1.0 was double the previous times.
The goal actually went in with 0.5 left and therefore half a second late.
For what it’s worth, it’s hard for me to believe a human could actually stop and start the clock for exactly one second down to the 60th fraction.

@What’s the frequency, Kenneth?, Not sure what you meant there.
If those clocks behind the goals are run by a computer lan network instead of being hardwired straight to the scorers table, it’s possible that the network lost communication at some point before the last faceoff and needed to sync itself. Or if the clocks are network connected a hacker could have been to blame.

Now you start showing some real class and take a personally embarrassing moment and turning it into a great charitable event. But are you kidding me, with only 32 games left in the regular season?!!! @Dominick, All that mattered was that there were A LOT more W’s then L’s… but we’re hanging another one on him!!
Excerpt from article:
PHILADELPHIA — Wayne Simmonds is outplaying the former captain traded away for him.
Simmonds scored two goals, Matt Read and Claude Giroux also had goals, and the Philadelphia Flyers snapped Nashville’s five-game winning streak with a 4-1 victory over the Predators on Thursday night.
When you’re watching the Flyers continue to inch closer to the top of the Eastern standings, it’s easy to overlook the fact that they’re getting it done with a bunch of kids, writes Scott Burnside.
Simmonds was acquired along with Brayden Schenn and a second-round pick in the blockbuster deal that sent Mike Richards to Los Angeles last summer. Simmonds has 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points. Richards has 14 and 12 for 26.
“His confidence is growing,” Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said. “He’s a difficult person to get the puck from. He holds onto the puck and makes plays.”

@King John, Well I don’t necessarily agree with this but Richards is in a matchup role now and hasn’t been producing. Also as a team we have allowed 30-something fewer goals than Philly so as we all know we are a much more defensive minded team than most. And MR was out a while with an injury that may still be bugging him.
As for other players suddenly producing after leaving the kings there are just as many if not more who have continued to fail or went down in production after leaving. We just focus on the moulson’s and purcells more than anything else. Now I do see something along the same lines that is disturbing. I can’t think of any player coming to the kings wIth unimpressive numbers then suddenly picking up goals with us. Fraser has preformed way above expectations but certainly isn’t scoring goals. Hopefully we can turn than trend around

@King John, Great post. Thanks!
This is somewhat disturbing. My initial fears and dislike of the trade might coming to fruition. Funny thing is, I was worried about Schenn breaking out, not Simmonds.
Lombardi has dug himself quite the hole. With no 1st or 2nd round pick this year, are we going to rely on the Oscar Moller’s to step up and contribute next season? This team is going to look vastly different next season with a few generous contracts expiring…
I think Toffoli is or will be NHL ready by training camp.
Lombardi has to somehow get a 1st or 2nd round pick for this years draft. Having said that, what’s the price going to be to get it?

Typical Philadelphia braying. The two players are being used in totally different situations.
Simmonds is getting the “Ville Leino” treatment — tons of starts in the offensive zone on a sheltered line with offensive players.
The Kings use Richards in a defensive role, and to top it off he’s dealing with the afteraffects of his concussion.

Despite earning $1m per goal so far, Penner is looking much better these days. If Richards starts showing up to some games, that line could be very productive. Richards has just not been the same since his injury, I was hoping the break would help him out, but he was very average last game, at times i forgot he was even in the lineup.
