    @Chocolate Rain,

    On paper you’re right. But consider the energy from the home town fans and the fact that it’s not a real game, and that it’s only a single game (in a 7 game series you’re right it would be over in 5).

    Plus, I’ll be watching to see if Quicker “win” his period and less for the final score.

    It shows that east coast players don’t really know a lot about west coast players unless they’ve won awards. Good thing Ottawa just played here and Quick showed his stuff. I was surprised the last two picks were Benn and Couture which, to me, shows that lack of knowledge.

    The same thing happened at the MLB all star game @Yankee stadium. When they announced any Boston player, the fans went nuts.

    What I’m really surprised about is that there were barely any Leaf fans in attendance. There’s a lot of Leaf fans living in Ottawa as they were Leaf fans before Ottawa came in to the league. Leaf fans really don’t like Alfredsson and he gets booed in his own rink when Toronto plays there. (It’s Leaf fans booing him)

    It’s the Anaheim and Ottawa are the the same, and LA and Toronto are the same. Probably a lot of LA fans living in Anaheim.

    You should have been at the draft last year. The boos every time the Ducks were announced were loud and prolonged enough it had to be mentioned by the tv guys. It continued right to the last round where the fans were yelling at each other across Staples! There had to be less than 200 fans left and these guys yelling back and forth “Duck’s suck” and the old stand by “yeah, but we got a cup” BS. Classic.

    @variable,

    I assume these are grades for the season thus far. What would be interesting, is to grade the players post-murray. I say that because if you look at players like Cliffy and Lewis since DS has taken the helm, I believe they each deserve a grade better.

    [Reply]

    jess Reply:

    @jess,

    To elaborate, it’s almost as if we’ve had two seasons within a season. One season with Murph, and the 2nd part with DS.

    Doughty was a dying plant which just needed a little sunlight and water. J-dubs looks better. Richardson looks like he has come to life. Truly, post murray, the only two who have not seemingly “jumped into stride” are stollicoaster and pencakes.

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

    @jess, I actually had some before and after results lined up, but lost them because of stupidity. I had the some similar thoughts as you, and some surprising numbers on Marinez, compared to where he would stack on other teams possession wise.

    variable Reply:

    @jess,

    thanks for reading…

    i thought it was better to review the whole season…

    i think i mentioned when it was overly applicable who has played better since sutter has taken over, but i couldn’t really do that for every player…

    i’m comfortable with my grades for both cliffy and lewis…and for everyone else for that matter…however, i did mention lewis and his recent scoring “frenzy”…

    the two toughest grades i had to give were lokti and richards…

    lokti – because of his lack of goals…
    richards – not because of his grade…an 88 is pret-tay, pret-tay good…it was the fact i had to give him a trending “down” arrow because of the uncertainty regarding his health…again, the arrow designation is based upon the player’s trend…and before the break, richards was struggling, often looking gassed and making some errors in judgement that he usually wouldn’t make…

    @variable, Good compilation. I would have Scuderi and Johnson a tad lower and Voynov a little higher, but we’re mostly in agreement. It is telling that you have 7 forwards in the 60s and I’m not convinced any of those can step up and give a B result for the rest of the way. I still think we need to trade a little D depth for some moderate firepower.

    @variable, scuderi is overrated.. lots of mistakes this year.. his stats say a lot. I can’t see how defender with such a weak clearing and a weak shot can be rated so high.. and his states don’t even show hes a shutdown guy this year

    everything else looks spot on to me and i agree 100% I really hope lewis and lokti turn it on, if they do they could be dangerous and i feel that line could be nasty in the future.. you can already see chemistry and chances coming more and more

    [Reply]

    variable Reply:

    @variable,
    Nobody thought or thinks Bernier is a back up pehnom. He is and will be a starting goalie. Quick is great and deserves to be #1 but who’s to say quicks numbers would be better than Bernier’s with only 9 games played? We all know we cant and wont keep both but if Bernier doesnt get more starts we wont get much back in return for him.

    The “rumor” is the cost for Parise is Brown & Bernier. Say if Bernier had 15 starts and his numbers improved, the price could be Bernier and Martinez or a pick. Ofcourse it could go the other way too if he plays poorly.

    Im just saying it tough to give Bernier a grade with limited action. I think he is better than he has shown. 1st peroids are rough for him, giving up some weak goals but then seems to settle in. I think its from not playing. Just my thoughts.

    @LUCALACA,

    Don’t blame Patrick ONeal for Heidi CHOOSING to leave, as @Michael J has told us as he talked with her. Besides, they were both here at the same time.

    Facts is facts. Jus’ sayin.

    Wow, 3rd round Quick gets picked? I need to go to the King’s fan hall of shame. I actually thought he would of been one of the last goal tenders picked. Silly me, thinking the players are anywhere near as short sighted as the east coast/canada biased media.

    Big props to Lundquist. He gives respect to one of his top competitors for the Venzina trophy. Now that is class. I think I might be routing for NY to win the east.

    @KC23, Not surprised Roenick found the pick surprising. The guy was clueless when he was here in LA, and he’s even more clueless about LA now.

    Dear Mr. Quick,
    You have arrived sir. And you deserve it! I have been privledged to see two great goaltenders, and only two, in my 40 plus years of following my number one sports team, the Kings. One was Mr. Vachon, you are the second. You have helped give this team the respect it needs to succeed. Other teams don’t want to play us anymore, and that says a lot. Thank you for all of your hard work, congratulations on your third round selection, and good luck in the All Star game. Have fun.

  44. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

    I’m surprised, although I initially figured Alfredson would have been impressed by what he saw just before the break. Hope it doesn’t spoil it if he lets in three or four goals, just like the others probably will (remembering, for example, that the forwards in front him probably won’t be playing any defense, and the defensemen may not either.) Still, it would be cool to see him stand on his head and steal the show..

    Looks like Alfy took some notes from DL with his selections, he selected heavy at center. Alfy has 6 centers to Chara’s 3…

    I don’t like voting. When it comes time at the end of the season, they always hand out hardware to their sweetheart teams and players.

    1st – Why does the MVP of a team have to go to a team that does really well? The Kings are not much better than a .500 team, but undeniably Quick is more valuable to his team than Howard is to his or Thomas is to his. But who will be recognized at the end of the year? Probably a goalie whose team goes deep.

    2nd – Why is the best defensive forward going to the same guy over and over? Give me a break. How about a guy like Kopitar who never takes penalties (I’m sure there are better choices than him, but a guy LIKE him) and is pretty hard to strip off the puck -or even a Frolov. If no check Datsuyk can get it -no check Kopitar can too.

    3rd – Why do we get to vote for All-Stars? Really it becomes the Canada show every time. Really? Ottawa sends Spezza? Every team should send at least one player and the rest can be picked by the coaches of the All-Star teams. Why shouldn’t every team get to send a representative? Versteeg is having a good year and so is Florida -why don’t they send him?

    4th – Tyranny of the majority. If you can get a few morons to go one way, you’ll get the rest to follow. See: “Comments that incite political, religious or similar debates will be deleted.”

    Finally – Why vote if people are allowed to vote more than once? Really? That goes well. And let me tell you, it doesn’t just happen in hockey.

  47. Michael J. says:

    I’m looking at that rosters, wishing that Kopitar were in the game and have begun to wonder if Anze is as great as we all think he is… I started to go throught the rosters of both teams and considered whom I would trade Kopi for. The list was pretty short… Which is causing me to pause and consider if he might be somewhat overinflated in the minds of us Kings’ fans???

    He has moments of brilliance, and his play in the defensive end is tremendous. Nevertheless, he is very inconsistent when it comes to scoring. Anze doesn’t have slumps, he has droughts. Ultimately Anze will need to learn how to produce throught the entire year if he is to become an elite player.

    jonsey Reply:

    @Michael J., I agree mostly here. BUT this year Kopitar of course does NOT deserve it, but if you look at the All-Star list, many of THOSE guys will not deserve it next time.
