Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…
(on the lack of offense…)
BROWN: “It’s hard to get shots when you don’t have everyone playing the right way, I guess. It’s going to take 20 guys. Tonight, I don’t think we had 20. It’s hard to say (how many they did have) right after a game. I’m sure it will be clear on video, but we need more. You need four lines if you want to win games in this league, bottom line.’’
(on the lack of offense…)
BROWN: “We’ve got to find more ways to score goals. There’s maybe some guys gripping the stick, but at the end of the day, guys have got to find the back of the net. It can’t just be one or two guys. That’s what it feels like it’s been, at least lately. We need more goals from lots of people.’’
(on the lack of shots…)
BROWN: “Last game, I scored a goal on the cycle, and tonight Kopi scored a goal. Just commenting on my line, I thought we had a lot of cycle shifts, some good opportunities with the puck in their zone. We got one goal. We could have had a couple more. But you look at our good games this year, and our third and fourth lines are having cycle shifts for extended periods of time. Like I said, it’s hard to comment on the whole game, but I didn’t feel like we had that many shifts where we…especially in the first, it felt like they were having those shifts against us, which is a sign of us not working hard enough.’’
Do ya think so?
[Reply]
Well Brown u Miss an empty net..Nice way to choke buddy.Maybe next time u teach Lokti to fall down the right way..
[Reply]
our third and 4th line has a history of NOT scoring. You asking players to score that never has…DL is at fault..not for the 3rd and 4th line…..but not having depth at the forward position when Parse and Gagne went down….Even now DL has had time to correct that(Parse has been out for awhile) and hasnt made a move….Least try bringing up King or someone..anything is better then what we are getting from the bottom six…

Sounded pissed and I can’t say I blame him. You should have more pride than to lose like that in your own building. Really sad, boring effort.

@40YearKingsFan, Yes – very hard to watch, – Brown/Kopi/Williams were the only line doing crap. Good on Brown – that game sucked, most of the team played poorly (mostly the usual suspects) – no need to sugar coat it.

Havent heard the captain calling out his other lines before. Looks like the frustration with no one else helping the scoring is boiling over.
[Reply]
You just need to get all 20 guys to keep going low to high, hoping for that forty foot shot to make it’s way through 6 different people and hope for a rebound like Kompon says, and I’m sure you guys will start scoring more goals. Keep at it guys!

@kab, we have no speed. no one knows where anyone is on the ice. all our breakouts are up the boards or just poke the puck past the blue line.
Just remember everyone, Just before we went on the road DL pulled the trigger on Terry, All Star break starts Tuesday, beware

And something is wrong when you play good away from home and yet your home record is 13-11-4. Some sort of spark or sense of urgency is missing.

Good for him….But this could spell trouble…A couple more games like this and the locker room will implode.
Actually, if you bring suddenly 6 guys from Manchester to replace our weakest links, whats the worse that could happen really.

@jack, Good point, I was just thinking if DS told the 3rd and 4th lines to just cycle the puck the whole shift, keep it behind the opposition net and along the boards, and dont ever even TRY to score… the result would be the same.

Well, I know Brown, Kopi, Williams battled hard after that Lackadaisical first, but play a full 60 mins before you start calling people out. I be pissed to though rest of the lines looked really soft all game.

What does this team need? They’re 49 games in, they’ve played with each other long enough. Every hockey player from the time his dad first teaches him to skate wants to score.
What is it you need to not suck as much?

@skooma, Reunite Kopi, Williams and Penner( it worked last year before injury to Kopi and Willams) Put Brown, Clifford with Richards and start working how to fix bottom six.

They need one or two pieces inserted into the fabric of the team to get the overall chemistry to mesh

@goldielocks, That slash was because that Colorado player almost took the feet out from underneath Quick……and total frustration at yet another 1 goal effort his team gave him.
Quick should wear Berniers jersey, not tell his team, and see how much goal support he gets.

the support for bernier isn’t much better.
You can saw it Brownie…it’s ok. Jarret Stoll is an awful hockey player this season. With all the PP time he gets and the number of times the puck is on his stick in the O zone, he has laid far too many eggs.

@Bobby Scribe, I’ve always liked Stoll, but you’re right and how long do you wait and hold out hope he and Penner will return to being productive veteran hockey players? They even appear to have dragged Richards into their funk also. I never did expect anything from the 3rd line as they’re fast but have no clue what to do with the puck when they get it, and the 4th line’s doing their job and thet’s not to score. I EXPECT the second line to produce however, and they have simply been horrible. No other way to put it.
[Reply]
And the reason Kings lose at home and play well in Canada and East? The answer is very simple – nobody cares in Kings ownership about hockey. It is all about entertainment and carnival atmosphere. This is why when the play in Canada they play full power because there they are going to be watched and TV commentators and paper reporters going to call every player for lazy play. In LA there is zero accountability for leadership of the team. You listen to Jim Fox or read LA Times and there is NEVER any criticism of Kopi, Brown, Williams, or, God forbids, Penner. It is always 4th line guys Lokti, Richardson, Hunter, Lewis. Also the physical condition of all top player except DD is SO BAD, they can’t play three periods or back to back games. This is huge. But really, the root cause is that AEG turned all media here into the extension of their marketing dept. All money spent and changes that happened last year were only under pressure from NHL which is greatly concerned what AEG was doing. In football they have a rule that corporation can’t own football teams – this is why.

“Guys have got to find the back of the net.” Look in the mirror, Dustin. You missed the open net tonight, and you missed one the other night too. I understand being frustrated with this loss, but it wasn’t one of DB’s better games. IMO, he was the weak link on the Brown/Kopi/Williams line tonight.

@Resedakingsfan, he’s a grinder…I know he has scored goals in the past, but he is a 3rd liner on most better teams in the league…Goal scoring should not be his concern…his role is to beat up the opposition and chip in with scoring every now and then…IMHO

How come I can tell, as plain as day, when the Kings are going to play well…or going to lay an egg,…by the first minute into a game!???!! They just didn’t come to play tonight…from the drop of the puck, they were a step behind, HOW do you do that to your loyal fans? How do you lay a stinky egg on your home ice? Where’s the pride and passion that you advertise? Where is the determination and grit? I understand Colorado has been playing well of late, but this was a case of will and battles and in almost every instance tonight, those battles were lost by the KIngs…The Kings did not look like a young group, like the one DS talks about, but rather, a slow, older team that couldn’t keep up. How do you go from a team that played at such a high tempo against Vancouver, to the extremely beatable team that showed up tonight at Staples?!!! Baffleling

Fox kept saying that the Kings needs the 8 day break as if fatigue was an issue and I’m wondering if the Kings think they have it harder than any other team in the NHL? We haven’t got to the AS break and they need to rest? They’re not an old team. Is conditioning an issue? I mean they come out flat almost always and are too tired to skate full shifts in the third. How are you going to win consistently like that? Fatigue is not acceptable for an NHL team at any point, let alone before the break. How do these guys ever expect to make any kind of run in the playoffs if they’re too “tired” to play 60 minutes with passion? The inability to finish, the pee wee league nuetral zone play, the absence of any power play symmetry whatsoever, the lack of any pop or jump to start a game, all pale in comparison to their lack of conditioning IMO.

@40YearKingsFan, I totally agree with you 100%. The argument of being “tired” and the 8 day break is much needed sounds like BS to me. I understand that playing a physical sport can be exhausting along with the time zone changes etc. But how many of us work 6 days a week, long hours, kids, night school, keeping up a home…..day in and day out?
It’s a game and they get paid well to play a game……if I don’t produce at work guess what? I get fired and someone else who will do the job replaces me.
Just my 2 cents
