For those who watched last night’s game on television, there was nothing wrong with your set. That red blotch you might have seen on Jonathan Quick’s sweater, just above the logo, was blood. Quick suffered a bloody nose, apparently during the national anthems, and had to go to the bench to stuff his nose with some gauze. Quick didn’t miss any game action, and changed sweaters at the first intermission.
Tough night for Quick. He stopped 31 of 33 shots and was often brilliant, after his teammates’ mistakes forced him into tough saves. Then again, tough season for Quick. Beyond the fact that he’s an All-Star, league pundits are starting to recognize that Quick is doing something special. Last night, Quick lost a game, and dropped his goals-against average from 1.96 to 1.95. How often does that happen to a goalie? This season, Quick has started 38 games. The Kings have scored an average of 2.26 goals in those games. In Quick’s 14 regulation losses, the Kings have scored a total of 11 goals. Here’s what might be the most remarkable stat: eight times this season, Quick has won a game in which the Kings scored one or two goals.
Can’t say enough about how outstanding Quicker is in net for us! If it weren’t for him, the Kings would be like the Ducks..out of the playoff picture for sure!!
I kept telling my husband last night that that was blood on his jersey too!!! He said..no, it’s probably Gatorade or something lol!!

…and people say he isn’t our MVP/league MVP….Sorry but no other goalie compares….Which scares me, We need for him to stay!!!!!
Does anyone think of him as one that will be asking a ton of money?? You know like other players that ask for too much, get it and don’t live up to those expectations.I am not saying names, but let’s just refer to this person as D. Doughty, no, wait that is too easy how about Drew. D…(Simpsons reference)

@FKA PakiFro, Money wouldn’t be an issue really for me (I use that as a reason to give him crap), but in reality I have a problem of him not playing up to his potential. However I do think the last 20 games he has been playing better. Not playing great, but good. I also have a problem with him missing training camp.
Again, it’s easy for me to say this, I’m not a professional athlete and not fighting for an extra $200K (from your numbers above).
Again I just want him playing like I know he can.

If I had a dime for every time he tries to pull some fancy move and turns it over, I’d have like five bucks. He’s overrated, average at best. Good for him I guess, capitalizing on one good season and then parlaying that “potential” into a giant payday. I can’t wait for Sutter to sit him.
There ya go.

I don’t care what people say. This Kings team is far from being a top team with a chance at the cup this year. The new coach is getting more out of this team but not enough to make them a top contender. IF they make the playoffs it will be one and done again. DL (if he is still around) has more work to do to build a contender.

The stats really do illustrate just how poorly our offense has performed this season, and just how key Quick is to this team’s success. Anything less than an All Star performance and Vezina consideration and this team is working on getting next season’s lottery pick.

Quick is doing everything to show that his 2nd half performance two years ago after the Olympics was a fluke. He is playing like the real deal and one can only dream of how good this team’s record would be if they gave him consistent goal support.

Quick’s nosebleed is a non-issue. I get nosebleeds on occasion, and it is generally due to having my left index finger be 2 knuckles deep in my nostrils. I have been aggressively debating with the “he is the one” Bernier supporters for a few years now about that. Quick has been doing it for a couple of seasons now, and Bernier has taken some strides, but for every step forward, Quick is 2 steps ahead of him.
I do feel comfortable with Bernier in net, and see him as the only possible successor should we lose Quick for any reason, but Quick is the #1, and it’s not just a title handed to him out of the process of elimination, but a title well earned, and well deserved.

Quick is amazing and deserves all the accolades he is recieving. However, I don’t understand why Bernier wouldn’t have played the Edmonton game. Sutter seems even less reluctant than TM use to be to play Bernier. I don’t understand. Bernier is an excellent goalie. He deserves to at least play the games that any other back up goalie in the league plays (and some would argue even more). Regardless of where you stand on that last point, I think we all agree that Quick has been less than stellar in the playoffs the last two season (and the year before that he was terrible the last 20 games of the season and was one of the reasons we DIDN’T make the playoffs) and I think most of us agree its because he is overused in the regular season. Bernier should play more games and give Quick the rest he needs.

i think the issue of him missing the net, especially on the pp, is the biggest problem for me…using him for the sole purpose of putting the puck on net at the top of the circles during the pp has failed…he’s been tried in the middle, in the diamond formation and he’s struggled there, too…
i’m not sure why he’s had so many problems with his shot this year – very perplexing…

@number 6,
DD’s contract has no bearing. There was no player in DD’s age group to make a simalar comparison. Quicks contract already has a set precidence (not to mention he’s a goalie). He is a game changer, but the fact he is more of a game changer than DD, Kopi, or anybody else on the team has no significance. It will be based on where he stands as a goalie, compared to the rest of the league, his age (27 by the time his contract expires), and what the market will pay if he makes it to UFA status.
Kings will be extremely lucky to keep him, and if they do, he might just price out Kopitar for the future (since Kopi will be looking at making more than 7 million when his contract is up). Many will blame DD, but the difference between 6.8, and 7 mill, wouldn’t change things once Quick, or Kopi’s contracts are up. Unless you believe DD should of took 1 million (so we could resign both) to keep things fair.

Either you meant taken 1 million Less, or you’re being sarcastic. In any case I think your point is well taken and I agree that the team will be lucky to keep him. Also very perceptive of you wrt how it would have a knock on affect on Kopi’s next contract.
Thing that is troublesome is, while the Kings Do have talent, it’s not like they have so much that they can afford to lose one of Kopi, Quick or Doughty. Especially Kopi as they have so little depth up front.

Oh, and in rereading my comments, I can see why you interpreted them as a direct ref to Doughty’s contract. But actually it was probably meant on my end more as a slight swipe at Doughty is all, as I in no way feel that he’s been worth a $6M contract for this year, nevermind $7M.
