Game 40: Kings 1, Avalanche 1 (overtime)

THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Varlamov.
Kings 1, Avalanche 1: Colorad tied the game with 5:43 remaining in the third period. Kyle Quincey helped force a turnover by Kyle Clifford near the Colorado blue line, then Ryan O’Reilly took the puck to the middle of the right circle and fired a sharp wrist shot through traffic that beat Quick to tie the game.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Avalanche 28-20 in regulation.

SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Varlamov.
Kings 1, Avalanche 0: The Kings broke the scoreless tie 1:34 into the second period. Mike Richards held the puck in the Colorado zone and pushed it behind the net. Anze Kopitar picked it up and attempted a wraparound. Varlamov made a stop but Dustin Brown skated in and knocked the rebound into the net.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Avalanche 9-7 in the period. Colorado threatened in the final 90 seconds, but the Kings got the better of the chances for most of the period and scored the only goal.

FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Avalanche’s Semyon Varlamov.
Goal disallowed: The Kings appeared to have scored a power-play goal 3:36 into the first period, but on-ice officials ruled that Justin Williams deflected in the puck with a high stick, and the call was upheld by video review.
End of period: The Kings outshot the Avalanche 12-5 and clearly were the more threatening team in the period. The Kings (technically) went 0-for-3 on the power play and did not face a penalty kill.
