Morning in Chicago

First, a bit of sad news, for those who missed it yesterday. Former Kings coach Johnny Wilson died at age 82. Wilson, the uncle of Toronto Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson, took over behind the Kings bench during the 1969-70 season and went 9-34-9 before he was fired at the end of the season by general manager Larry Regan.

Here’s the morning view from Chicago, the City of Big Shoulders and Dirty Windows. Chicago is my favorite road city, and I thoroughly intend to enjoy it with some great breakfast this morning. The Kings are scheduled to be on the ice for their morning skate at 11:30 a.m. local time.

Best city I’ve ever visited Rich! Lucky you. Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency – spectacular! Then dinner at the Chicago Chop House or Geno’s! Eat well, and report on a win tonight!

If it is such a great city, why are there so many transplants across the country?

Gotta sample the food at Carson’s for Ribs, Lou Malnatti’s for deep dish pizza. And you have to go to the Billy Goat Tavern under the bridge on the river if you haven’t yet. Good burgers, but better characters/atmosphere… That’s the place where they got the inspiration for the old “Saturday Night Live” skit in the Greek taverna w/John Belushi. “Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger!”. You don’t order… the guy there tells YOU what you’re going to eat. Also, it’s supposedly the place where the Cubs were cursed and deemed never to win the MLB Penant again (and it’s working…?)…

Have fun and GO KINGS GO!

I have never been to Chicago and only heard Chicago is very clean for a big city.
I don’t know what makes it such a great city? Nearly all Dodger players that was interviewed and asked for their favorite city on the road, most of them said Chicago.
I never really planned on going to Chicago but I might have to check it out!
