As expected, the Kings resolved their roster issue by putting Simon Gagne on injured reserve. The Kings still haven’t disclosed Gagne’s injury, but it’s obvious that he hurt himself by hitting his head after a hit near the boards. There’s no timetable on a return. So the Kings are back to a 23-man roster, and we’ll see what the lineup looks like tonight.

@petemagoop, After seeing it, I don’t care for the hit on Gagne at all.

It seems like getting a concussion is as common as getting a cold this year. Not good.

@wavesinair, Do you think it’s because the hitting has somehow increased or that they’re analyzing/diagnosing concussions differently?

@wavesinair, hey waves? why cant the league go back and look at that hit? Seems like it was a direct hit to the head and someone should be paying for it.

@fsd1, I must have been posting the same time as you and couldn’t agree more. I thought, according to Jim Fox, that is EXACTLY the type of hit they were trying to get rid of? There wasn’t a lot of space between Gags and the boards, but there was enough that his head was driven into the boards by the hit. I’ve asked this question before, but say that’s JW or Stoll who puts the exact same hit on a Sedin or a Patrick Kane and he is concussed, what do you suppose the league’s response would be?

@40YearKingsFan, 8 games is my guess, or at least 3.
Be interesting to see who Sutter moves up to the Top 6 to replace Gagne. Like most of the team Simon hadn’t exactly been filling the net the past month.

Thats too bad…Gagne had really been very quiet, almost invisible lately, but this is not the way to get back on track. Hope he can get back soon, Kings need him to perform to his full potential if they are going to make a playoff run.

Why is it that this organization cannot say concussion. I find it rather disturbing that they want to hide in the shadows of the media when the rest of the league says it right out when their players go down with a concussion.

@Kings Fan Vancouver, WA, I wonder why so many fans can’t understand why the organization should never volunter information that the opposition can use to their advantage.

@KC23, I understand the reasoning and its a good tactic if no one knew what was wrong but when everyone else in the media and such is reporting its a concussion the cat is pretty much out of the bag. Plus……what other kind of injuries do players have when hitting their heads that dont require stiches?

@Kings Fan Vancouver, WA, Whether they disclose it or not, as long as they are taking it seriously and giving him the treatment he needs, they could call it blue balls for all I care.

@Kings Fan Vancouver, WA, Is it just us? I think the whole cloak and dagger thing when somebody gets hurt is both ridiculous and silly. All anybody with 2 brain cells bumping together needs to do is look at the video and you don’t have to be a doctor to get a pretty good idea what happened. I mean, if you said he has a concussion (which everyone knows) how will that information be used against you in some nefarious scheme?
Take the time you need, Simon, and come back strong!

Me thinks Hunter will take his place. I like Loktis potential better but he needs to be playing center so hunter it is. If it were me making the decision i would move Brown down to the 2nd LW, move Williams to 1st RW, and Hunter can take over williams spot on the 3rd RW.

Kings need this win tonight. If not only for a boost in confidence. We must start beating the “better” teams in the league. Maybe having the Dad’s around will help. Losing Gagne to an injury is not good. Another head injury in the NHL. Really!!! Why does it seem every day we have a head injury in the NHL. Concessions weren’t everyday news during the 90′s. It seems everyone has a concession story. As A fan I feel for Gagne. Hope he gets back to the player we know he can be. Maybe fear has a way of making a player skate just a bit slower. Bring up Kozen From Manchester. I know he is small, but at least give him a chance. Bud Holloway should of never left to play in Sweden. Kid would be in the NHL now.

@King Charles of Salt Lake, I agree what would it have hurt to bring Bud up last year for the playoffs and sooner or later Kozun, Muzzin, Campbell,Hickey, Vey, and Clune will all say I never got a chance/2nd chance and leave too. I don’t blame Moller and Holloway.

I’d like to take a look at someone from Manchester such as Cliche, King, Vey or Nolan.

@KC23,
Nolan hasn’t played in a while, concussion symptoms but it seems as though he may play tonight. While I am both a Kings/Monarchs fan, I hope no one gets the call, as of last game (Sunday), the Monarchs had 6 injured players to go along with the 2 call ups.

Do you (anyone/everyone) think that Alec Martinez will get sent back to Manchester. He’s been a healthy scratch for quite a few games now so I’m guessing that at some point that has to be the next place for him, but ….

@clubaclub, Martinez is not waiver exempt so the Kings would surely lose him if they tried to send him down.

@Lake Forest, Yeah, I’m just thinking he’s about earned himself a spot on the NHL roster which createsa a situation. How do you tell the kid he’s earned his way into the top 6 but we’re sending him back down because we’re afraid we’d lose a player he has in essence beat out of a position? It seems like barring an injury some kind of move will have to be made.
There are several reasons for not using the term concussion or a direct diagnosis:
1. The obvious is not letting the other team know where your weak spot is.
2. Health Care medical provacy laws
3. Liability of a bad diagnosis. Doctors have been sued either way. So it may be just doctors discrete way of avoiding liability, insurance and label of damaged player.( when it comes to trades)
