Simon Gagne, who didn’t play in the third period, got “a little banged up” early in the game, according to coach Darryl Sutter. Sutter didn’t elaborate, other than to say that Gagne would be evaluated again tomorrow before the Kings’ flight to Chicago. The Kings are not scheduled to practice tomorrow.
That explains BR playing on the MR’s line?

@miracle.on.manchester, Indeed. In the third we went with:
Fraser – Kopitar – Brown
Richardson – Richards – Lewis
Penner – Stoll – Williams
If Gagne is in fact out — I’ll be interested to see what the lines look like tomorrow. Maybe Loktionov gets a look on the left side of Kopi? Sutter does appear to put young players in a spot to score goals.

@CabbagesAndKings, I loved how these lines ended up. Kopi and Brown need some grit on their line and Fraser brings it. And I think Richardson and Richards meshed really well.

If Gagne is banged up does that mean that Loktionov will get another chance or does Hunter move up? Hope Lokti gets another look he at least creates some chances! If only the Kings could find the right linemates to compliment his talents.

@andy, I think Lokti and Hunter should be playing Chicago in the absence of Gagne. I would scratch Lewis or Westgarth. Lewis hasn’t scored a point in 10 games and Westgarth only plays 5 minutes a game without fighting the other team’s bruiser. I think Bisonnette playing was the only he reason Westgarth was in the lineup tonight.

@andy,
I’d rather see Loktionov than Hunter. But not because I have been impressed by Loktionov’s play. If he plays the wing he is clearly not strong enough for the board play. If he play’s center, he’s not scoring, he’s not being terribly creative, and his defense is mediocre at best. But despite all that he’s light years ahead of the veteran Hunter.

@Forum67, If Lokti is LIGHT YEARS ahead of Hunter, why does he have only 2 points in 15 games whereas Hunter has 4 in 20 games?
[Reply]
Was wondering why Bob and Jim didn’t figure that out. How can that happen with a whole production team covering the game??

Meanwhile here at the house, wife says, “If you complain about them not mentioning Gagne one more time, we’re watching House Hunters.”

@yetiman_oc, I would think that Patrick O’Neil, if he was really on the job, would ask and talk to the training staff as to why Gagne is out. Last year Heidi was able to get the information to us as far as injuries and such.
On the NHL Network the other night, they showed the Kings-Rangers game from Caesars Palace back in 1991. The quality of broadcast was WAY better than it is now. We don’t get updates very often of games around the league, where back then they use to do that during the period and at intermissions (maybe someone in the sales department needs to sell the out of town scoreboard).
Not reporting any injuries is unacceptable.

@Edward, The team releases no such info, nor does any other team in the league. A few things have changed since 91, like the ticker at the bottom of the screen, or the score updates between periods (did you not see those?) Not reporting injuries is standard fare for all teams in the nhl.

@fsd1, i understand the team doesn’t disclose injuries, but don’t you think the broadcast team should report that there is a player not playing? Jim Fox appeared to be clueless that he was out of the lineup as he stated (after quite a few shifts) that BR and TL were playing with MR. Don’t think it was a cover up to avoid telling about an injury but I could be wrong.
Per @reallisa
Sobering news. Looks like Simon Gagne is going to be out for awhile. Believed to be a head injury. Called upper-body injury in NHL talk.

Why does LATIMES report breaking news before the LA Kings? Murray situation, now Gagne?
If it is true, I believe Lokti won’t be sent down because I do believe he had until 9AM to clear waivers.

@Harry, Lokti has a 2 way contract still and doesn’t have t be put on waivers, nor would the Kings even risk putting him on waivers if they could.

I think so too but I think its mainly do to the fact that he’s not getting enough ice time with Metallurg rather then him needing adjustment to the ice

@KC23, Agreed. After the buzz of squeezing out the two points wears off we have to realize that we beat a banged up team with not much offense nor goaltending.
Never-the-less, there is some momentum and hopefully the self-belief is returning with the improved results.

@Marc Nathan, Unfortunately, I agree. In hockey years, he is very close to retirement age. His best years are clearly behind him. I hope we see someone else in a top 6 LW role next year.

Kings seem to have their scoring touch, hopefully they exhibit that in Chicago and my home city of Winnipeg. I’ll be wearing my purple throwback kopi jersey when I see them against the Jets. Honestly it’s just nice to see the confidence again while their out there skating. GO KINGS GO!!!

Unless they IR Gagne they will have to make a roster move for Richards coming back which most likely means Lokti back to the Monarchs.
