Brown postgame quotes (Dec. 23)

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…

(on the team putting together better efforts…)

BROWN: “That’s the plan. We got a big point. The power play came through and got us a big goal and Quicker was pretty strong all night, made some big saves and kept us in the game. We had our opportunities, and we ended up getting to a shootout and the shootout is what it is. We won the last couple in a shootout but, again, it is what it is. Quicker makes a couple big saves and our shooters couldn’t find a way to get one by their goalie.’’

(on the number of near-goals by both teams…)

BROWN: “Every time we play the Sharks, it’s a pretty competitive game. They always have four on the rush, so they get a lot of those rush chances. I thought we did a really good job of cycling the puck and grinding. We’ve got to continue to get around the net though. I think Niemi saw too many pucks tonight. We’ve got to get there more consistently.’’

Come one Brown just say it…Quick is the only reason why this was not a Red Wings repeat from last week lol

@Kasey9, Are you kidding me? This game could’ve gone either way. Very entertaining game.

@Scootty, Ya it could have gone either way because Quick saved them lol especially in the 3rd

@Kasey9, Quick was tested maybe 3 times all game, that is the defense’s doing. For the most part he only had to make routine saves, didn’t have to stand on his head to bail out the team b/c frankly neither team had their offense have a good game.

    DEH Reply:

@Kasey9, Niemi made more tough saves than Quick had to. True the Sharks had more shots, but they were mostly TM system like shots, no threat. So is Niemi the only reason why the sharks won?

@DEH, Niemi only had to make like 2 or 3 tough saves the rest was TM system shots. Quick in the 2nd and 3rd made a couple robbery saves and stopped everything else including the PP chances they had. Sharks did not win cause of Niemi

a couple of times kings held onto the puck in the offensive zone and instead of just throwing it at the net they try to make too many passes and get cut off or have the puck taken away. just throw it at the net sometimes, good things will happen

    Stuart Reply:

@kopitaristheman, wrong! The “just throw it at the net” days are over! Soon those passes will start to connect and when they do we will definitely become a better puck management team. Right now the boys are just flinging passes around with no conviction but once they gain confidence in their passing, and more importantly, the ability for the other guy to actually coral and catch a pass they will start to find a lot of yawning back door plays and open nets (now whether they actually put them IN the net is another issue)…

It’s time to stop the mindless dumps on net that are the equivalent to a TO…

I thought the Kings played well. Only gave up 5 shots in the first period….only one in overtime.Had some decent chances…S.J.’s been on fire on was at home. Couple of practices under DS will really help…Play like we did tonight and add a little better shot selection and we will be a top 4 team…..

Attack the net. Stop cycling so damned much behind the net with your back to everything, all that does is kill the clock and your chances. Go forward to the net like all other teams do, not behind the net, to waste time and/or lose the puck. A lot of hard , hard work that should have been two points, not one.

@Royal Throne, we don’t have the players who are fast and creative enough to do that thanks to dl

Brownie – Why couldn’t you and Stoll just take the same shots that won it for you last night in the shootout? Both of you took lower %age shots tonight for really no good reason. Just stick to what’s working man. That was my major disappointment.

Other than that, it is starting to come together. Entertaining game for sure. Everyone owes Quick dinner next road game.

I’m wondering if this “sleepy giant” will ever wake up? Looks like it’s getting close. Getting PLENTY of chances…..just not “bouncing” our way. Awesome game by kings against a really good team in the Sharks.

Seems like everyone has forgotten about JMFJ in the shoot out. When it’s your only shot at winning you have to go with the known quantity. hopefully Sutter figures that out. I can’t recall Richards ever impressing in the SO.
