No move needed for Richards

The Kings haven’t officially activated Mike Richards, but assuming they do tomorrow — it’s expected — they will not have to make a corresponding roster move. Because of the current holiday roster freeze, the Kings are allowed to remove a player from injured reserve without sending down a player or exposing one to waivers. If, on Dec. 28 — when the freeze ends — the Kings still have an extra body, they will then have to make a move.

    @Lead Feet, I hate to say it but Loktionov should
    If not, Drewiske….idc if he has a cool nickname but he’s about as smooth as cheap whiskey…aka not good
    I’d rather have Martinez as a 7th dman

    What's the frequency, Kenneth? Reply:

    @Paul G, I think that might be a little unfair to Wiskie. He’s played pretty well this time up.

    @What’s the frequency, Kenneth?,

    Agree. I almost forgot what a sold D man he is. But after watching him the last games he’s played, I see little difference between his game and AM’s.

    @Paul G, The guy went 2 for 2 on goals.

    @Paul G, As his contract is 1 way, he would be exposed to waivers, doesn’t work. Plus, teams ALWAYS have a 7th defenseman on the active roster just in case. Sending down Loktionov is the most logical move. He is just not ready to compete at the NHL level yet.

    @Lead Feet, wouldnt he be exposed to waivers?

    @Lake Forest,

    No. his is a (2 way) entry contract and players on entry contracts (ie rookie, 2nd year) are not subject to clearing waivers for that reason. Lokti and Martinez can be sent up and down without impunity unlike Drewiske. Lok is a 2nd year pro since he already had 19 games in LA last season. But I expect the Kings would keep him up after this season. Except for the rare conditioning assignment if he’s scratched a lot, which is allowed.

    it’s Lokti. i mean, no goals since he’s been up, and not much else either.

    Duckbasher Reply:

    @KHenry14, I’d say it has to be Lokti. He’s the only forward on a two-way contract. Right?

    Dominick Reply:

    @Duckbasher, Absolutely correct.

    @KHenry14, But then again, there are players with NO goal in more games since he’s been up.

    @petemagoop,

    We could have had Giroux..

    Kings selected Trevor Lewis 17th overall in 2006, Giroux was picked 22nd by Philly. Whoops!

    I like Lewis though, I still think he’s going to have a long career in the NHL.

    Dominick Reply:

    @Scot, 20 other teams passed on Giroux, and even though the Kings passed on him twice, they had no way of knowing Giroux would be so good.

    rogiesbackup Reply:

    @Scot, You could just never tell. Flyers weren’t that deep so he had opportunity to be a starter on probably the first or 2nd line so he got confidence.

    Interesting. The question remains though, CAN they send a waiver exempt player DOWN during the freeze. I know they can recall a player and I believe they can send one down too.

    Loktionov not as good as Purcell,Boyle, Moulson, or Noah Clarke who never got a good chance with the Kings. He should be waived as he is too small and cant finish. Has had a better chance than any of these players. Frolov was 100% beter as well.
