Justin Williams’ postgame thoughts…
(on his goal…)
WILLIAMS: “Crazy carom. You’ve still got to make the shot and make it count. I feel like our line, over the last couple games, has played well and we’ve worked for our chances offensively, so it’s nice to get kind of a gift there in front of the net and get an opportunity to score.’’
(on getting a lift at the end of the road trip…)
WILLIAMS: “Some kind of a lift, give us a little confidence. Eventually we’re going to score more than two goals in a game, and we’re going to feel damn good doing it. As for now, we’re just going to keep trying to do what we do, and worry about what happens in our dressing room and not what people are saying about us.’’
(on whether he knows anything about Darryl Sutter…)
WILLIAMS: “No. We haven’t really been told anything yet. From what I hear from players, he’s a very passionate guy and he’s very intense. I’m looking forward to a coach like that.’’
Yes. i like intense!

@CB14,
That’s the same line that caught my attention.
Did TM lull the Kings to sleep? Or was the message just not loud and clear enough for them to go out and play with passion?
Come Thursday, we all will find out!

@CB14, he will need s few games. Transition will be smoother if the players show this kind of effort no matter who is behind the bench. Tonight, they made Stevens look good. Note that time-out called in the 3rd.

@CB14, This may be the summary of what happened to Murray. Showing no passion rubbed off on the players, it seems. That, and you could see a difference in the way Stevens coached, not afraid to pull the goaltender, call time out, etc. Murray was simply so overly conservative and unwilling to show emotion I think it cost the team a lot over the years.

BTW, I like Stevens’ attitude, showing emotion, as much to the positive as anything. I get the feeling with him on the bench there’s going to be some “good cop, bad cop” action with the players, allowing Sutter to rip into them, so they really get the message when they don’t have their act together, but with Stevens helping them get positive and get pointed in the right direction.

We going to be looking at Penner – Richards – Williams as a line soon, dropping Stoll to the third?

@KDinUT, Penner should play with Stoll
And Richards should play Gagne
Chemistry is key

Yeah I agree with the two goal comment. I Have watched these guys for 33 games and is it just me or does it seem that they are not playing like a complete team, it seems like no one knows what the guy next to him is gonna do with the puck especially in the offensive zone on the power play, I hope that as we get into the second half of the season they can gel together. Good 4 points on this road trip NOW lets win 11 or 12 straight.

@OCKINGin HB, Daryl and Nick made a very similar comment the other night when the Kings just couldn’t get possession in the zone on the PP. Essentially, it seemed as if there was no plan and none of the players knew what the puck carrier was going to do. Makes you wonder exactly what aspects of the game the Kings practice.

I wonder why tuning out the coach would lead to such poor play. They started winning, where on a high, with high expectations, new players, etc…then kapoom!! bottom fell out, quite suddenly. I just cannot fathom so many good and experienced players on the team letting the coach get to them thaat much.
Where they tuning him out some of last year?
Look how they cycled and were intense last night…do they need specific coaches to come out that way? isnt cycling the puck and statying in the offensive zone what they were doing last year and the year before all under TM? they used to have great cycling moments, under TM…the players forgot all about it suddenly, and suddenly yesterday they remembered?

@Jack, Quick wasn’t good enough to start after three shutouts. They thought their coach went insane, and so did I.

@Jack, I think you could look at things as more of a lack of leadership or energy rather than just “tuning out the coach” as in no longer doing what he asks. Without somebody to push and motivate, which can happen when players stop listening to the coach, it’s easy to not go all out during the games. There’s a reason that teams like to have a few of those “energy” players. They really do spark a team to play harder. And conversely, when somebody isn’t bringing the energy to the game, it can effect the guys around them. So, in this case, if the coach is maybe too calm. Too Quiet. Not capable of firing up his team. People feed off energy, and if he’s not bringing any, it becomes a negative drag.

@Helvetica, what is they cycled slower? I saw a complete abandonment of what they used to do so well…I understand the players maybe not giving their all, but this wasnt a case of 95%, this was like a 50% effort, and the tactics where just not there…
