Drew Doughty’s postgame thoughts…
(on getting the two points after playing so well…)
DOUGHTY: “It was huge. It kind of sucked that they scored that goal to tie it up late, but we were pushing back. We needed that win. We needed that two points. Brownie did a great job with a great shot in the shootout, bar down, and it was huge for us. The two points is what we came here for, and it was great to get it.’’
(on leaving the game briefly…)
DOUGHTY: “I just got a little cut and had to get stitched up. Luckily, I was able to come back. … It was good. I was worried that I wasn’t going to be able to come back, but the trainers did a good job of stitching me up, and I was happy I could come back and contribute.’’
What the heck is going on with Koptar. Can any one enlighten us.
Thank you

@Roger, He is playing too defensive, which has forced his offence to struggle. He doesnt shoot as much as he used to either. I remember when he would turn from the corner and fire a wrister pass the keeper a few years ago. He will come back to us!

@Alton,
Kopi goes through slumps in the season, this is normal.

@Roger,
Our offense depends too much on Kopitar creating for everybody else. When was the last time kopi took a nice pass from somebody and had a scoring chance. I dont think kopi will reach the 90-100 point mark intill he gets somebody with as much, or more skill than him to play him. thats just my take.

@pesus, I hate it when he plays with Brown because Brown never passes.

@Duckbasher, What sucks is to always see this team lead in so many stats at the beginning of seasons only to go on long losing streaks.

@Duckbasher, I think Kopi playing 24 minutes a night is catching up to him. Playing center and logging 24 minutes a night is so much more than a d-man playing those minutes. He is constantly skating all over the ice. He has looked tired for the past several games now, and his production, or lack there of, is showing. There were several times during the game tonight when he could not get back after an offensive rush. He had no legs and should not have been out there because he had nothing left even as early as late in the 2nd period. I hope he gets some rest and with Richards coming back soon, hopefully Kopi will not have to log so many minutes, and we can get some production out of him.

@Roger, We are all forgetting he is coming from a major injury this year. I’llbe happy if he just stays healthy after this season…

@Roger, It’s his regular December slow down. He started hot last season too.

@Roger, You can ask that about most of the forwards. Things will pick up. We had a great second half of the season last year, and I think Sutter behind the bench will be a positive influence. Under TM, we were one of the few teams in the league who weren’t cycling all five players, utilizing defensemen to get the extra guy on the attack – thus the great defense. Our dmen, particularly DD, JJ, and Slava, are going to explode starting in a few games. Book it.
Sorry for the digression.

Doughty played quite well tonight. Beginning to turn a corner?

@Alton,
I think Doughty was trying to get to his game and doing too much. But now he is letting his game come to him and getting a good result.

Doughty played awsome, Kopitar line was pretty dangerous and Kopi was very good defensivley.. i hate the fact that every year he goes through a slump around this time of the year… hat trick next game…

It’s just one game. Let’s re-evaluate Dec 29th.

Kings played great tonight. They played loose and were fun to watch. Who needs Sutter?

Thought DD played real well tonight. It took a while but he seems to be getting back to the “old” Doughty. Still has a little ways to go though.

Oh but some think that Drew is not tough. Dude is a bad ass. I love it when he plays pissed off. Many of you are upset because of the millions he is making. Get over it. Let it go. Who cares what the kid makes. He playing some good damn hockey as of late, so stop crying because he makes bank and you don’t.

When MR is not in the lineup the other teams focus on Kopi and his numbers go down, this happen last year and teams don’t forget! Once MR comes back, this team should do better with tiring out the other teams holding down these two centermens! This will free up one of them to be more offensive threat or both!

By the way, Penner was pretty badass too…bleeding from the head and not leaving the bench. He looks like he’s really showing something now

@Shakes,
And now others are leading his play well, too. Some of his passes through the middle connected tonight, creating scoring opportunities.

Great game from Dewey, still need to work on that consistency from shift to shift but it’s getting there now that he’s letting his skill set take over. If Doughty can make his presence known every shift, offensively and defensively, we will win games. Johnson’s game didn’t look to bad either, a little more poise with the puck maybe better decisions will help his puck control. Less dekeing more skating. It’s very important they compliment their shutdown partners with poise and solid offense. Kinda interesting, Drewiskie seems to be playing best next to Greener. Should stay in my mind.

Drew, I’ve been semi-bashing you recently but tonight you played your best game of the year. The whole team played great hockey but the best thing I took from the game other than seeing you guys mob each other after Dustins goal, was you putting Kessel on his butt at the end of regulation and then standing there looking down at him not saying a word, but like,”yah? you want some more”? That’s the DD we know. Great game boys…GKG
