Rob Scuderi’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
SCUDERI: “I don’t know how many times we shot ourselves in the foot. I can think of at least three turnovers in the neutral zone that ended up in goals. Turnovers, goalie-to-D exchange. I’m not saying they didn’t do their part to earn the goals, but sometimes there are just times when you’ve just got to get the job done. That’s what cost us all those extra goals today.’’
(on whether there was a distraction with the coaching situation…)
SCUDERI: “I certainly hope not. We’re professionals and there’s still a job to do. I can only speak for myself. When the puck drops and you’re playing hockey, you’re not thinking about the coaching change. I’m thinking about what my responsibility is on the ice. Maybe we don’t have enough guys who are doing that. I’m not sure what the case is. Certainly tonight, you look at just flat-out mistakes that cost us goals, and it’s something that bad teams do.’’
(on whether it takes a game like this to open eyes…)
SCUDERI: “I hope it doesn’t take a game like this to open some eyes. How about the last three weeks? We have to wake up eventually. There’s only so much time left in the season. How much ground we think we can cover, that’s a scary thing. I’m not sure how many guys have been on teams like this, in situations like this, but there’s not that much time.’’
Give him the C please.

@HockeyOnlyAwaitingModeration, definitely not. Everytime we are in a tough spot we always get Scuderi quotes. That shows he’s the senior voice of reason and deserves to be our captain. He also has, you know, the credentials neccessary to wear the C.

@DBking, My opinion only but, if they make a change, Mike Richards is the guy.

@Lake Forest, Well, your Scuds was 8 feet from the puck and a Detroit player beat him to it from 20 feet away. And you know the rest of the story.

If fans think that Sutter is going to change things by screaming and yelling…I will disagree. That is old school coaching and I dont think it works with players making the money that they do…If you have ever worked for a boss who screams and yells…you know what Iam talking about. Sutter is going to need to balance his act out. Playing time is a coach’s best friend. Also you need to find the right time to do the riot act.If Sutter thinks that coming in and screaming at the team is going to work then I think that will be a mistake…Balance….

@neil, i don’t know dude, when ever mom starts yelling stuff gets done!. this team has had too much of the positive, “we needed more shot mentality, heavy play” coddling and now need more drill sargent, hey is R.Lee Ermy available to be assistant coach.

No one knows for sure what Sutter is going to do. Probably not even Sutter himself. But after last night’s blowout almost anything will be an improvement.

@gmo,
I hope he starts with the PP, 5 guys standing still taking turns taking point shots, then praying for rebounds is not a PP.

@neil, I don’t think all DS will bring is screaming and yelling. He’s going to bring a dedication to detail. He’s going to bring good habits to practice and these habits will be reinforced with the screaming and yelling. And I don’t care how much money a player makes, he starts off respecting a coach the way he respects his dads voice. He knows the coach wants him to do the BEST that he can… Players want to be respected by their coach and that drives them to perform as they’re expected too. I think DS is just what the dr ordered for this team because they are obvisouly languishing without MR and WM. I hope that MR takes another 2 weeks off and within that time DS gets this group to believe in themselves and start to play like a team so that when MR gets back into the line-up he just adds to a well oiled machine rather than trying to kick start an old gallopy.

Look we don’t know what is being said in the locker room. What we do know is that was not a hockey game we just watched. Kings played as if they could’nt get off the ice fast enough. Even after the win the other night there wasn’t many smiles on their faces. I don’t think the team knows what to think at this point. Until some of the leaders get together and decide what direction they want to go this team will not be a team. Everyone is not on the same page. They may say they are, but we know better. Maybe we fans don’t know what it’s like to be a perfessional athlete, but we do know when our team is in a funk. I say bring in some of us to talk with the players. Let the players know what it’s like from our perspective. I know that will never happen. Some believe that fans don’t know a thing about “the inside” part of the game. I beg to differ. Give us a chance. I guess this is just my way of saying that I wish we fans has a voice in what happens. Maybe I’m just being foolish, but hell I want this team to win. If this group can’t find away out of this madness, many of them will finfd themseleves on different teams. Don’t they realize they have the talent to do something that no other Kings team has done. All they have to do is want it. more then anything else. I better shut up now, because I’m not making much sense. Good night.

Many times at the blue line there is a puck between the Kings defender and the oncomming offensive player…and no battle for the puck, the defender just backs off and gives the offensive player space. Why not move fwd and fight for that puck? dive and poke it fwd…not just slide backwards keeping the guy in front?

I honestly gotta feel bad for scuds at a time like this! i mean coming from a team thats won the cup, where winning is like breathing, it coming so simply, not to give pittsburg more credit but then to come here where its a struggle its like wow
