@KC23, Wrong!!! You can sense all you want MR.KC. Brown is not going anywhere. No matter how much you dislike the guy. Brown is a soild player trading him would not sit well with many of us. #23 is here to stay.

You might want to figure out a way to get comfortable with that. I don’t want it to happen, but (more) changes are probably coming.

@kinginsaltlake, Don’t marry yourself to the players on this team. I’m not knocking Brownie but he’s a 2nd line winger, at best, on any other decent team. His game is suited more as a 3rd line banger. If he had any sort of hockey IQ, he would be a better player. He just lacks that hockey knowledge to find open spaces and use his teammates better.

@mike,
I think Brown actuallyhas pretty decent instincts. Somehow he doesn’t seem to have quick enough feet. He makes great choices with the puck while driving to the nest, except…..he seems to fall down an awful lot. Reminds of MLB outfield Lonnie Smith (great nickname: Skates). Well since DB does in fact have skates maybe we can just call him Lonnie to even everything out.

I dont really care why and wont speculate either but its a good thing to have him with the team regardless if he is participating in practice or not. Rick is onviously a huge part of our team his presence is warranted IMO.

Wonder if the Kings will wait to announce their new coach until they arrive in toronto just for the maximum press coverage?

Through the years reading your post, sometimes you rub me wrong. I don’t know why. You always have good knowledgeable post, it just sometimes pisses me off. We all miss Richards and we all know you would choose him as Captain, but Brownie has been here for awhile and like it or not he’s our guy.

@jess, same here, lets just face in the facts in the richards is simply better captain material, he can actually go out and get the boys goin, talking to them, motivating them whatever it is, he’s been there before, while captain browns couldnt finish a goal if his life depended on it, he doesnt even hit anymore D:
kinda boring in my eyes

@kinginsaltlake, have you been satisified with what our current Captain has brought to the table?
Thank the hockey gods that he doesn’t have 10 goals right now to hide behind because everyone and their grandmothers would be clamoring about his goal totals. When all around you are losing their heads, you need a captain who will keep his and right now DB is not pulling a captains weight, let alone his own. Sorry, thems the facts. He’s not even on pace to pot 20… I’m not saying he HAS to go, but if there’s going to be a major shake-up I would think our cap’n might in the mix…

@kinginsaltlake, Brownie should stay, but not as a captain of this team… AK should become C and MR & DD should take A… Our best and highest paid players have to take over full responsibility!

BrokeKingsFan Reply:

@outsider, I say if the C is going to someone else why not Richards? he has everything you would want in a C and was one for years in Philly. Kopi should keep his A and maybe if Dewey had a letter it would motivate him to get back to Norris Trophy consideration form.

December 15th, 2011 at 4:01 pm
@outsider, AK is our primary franchise guy and our best player for some years. And don’t forget, he came back hard from his major injury this year… MR just came to the team and it would be a big thing if we give him an A!!!

@kinginsaltlake,
You can’t manage teams with your heart, you have to mangage with your head. We all love Brownie, but having played hockey my whole life on many teams, I understand the dynamics of personalities on teams & what a real captain embodies. The fact of the matter is that Richards is just a better choice as captain, he brings more leadership qualities on & off the ice than Brown. Like I said, I love Brownie too, & hope he stays, but to help get this team heading in the right direction, you have to have the right leadership. And if Brown is a TRUE team player, a TRUE captain, he would put his personal interests second, & do what’s best for the team, even if that means relinquishing his captaincy.
Remember when Mike Modano happily handed his long-serving captaincy to Brenden Morrow? He didn’t complain, he was humble, & he did it with a smile on his face. That is a true team player, & a true captain.

This is all about leadership and presence in the room. Mike will help with that. Not knocking DB, AK or MG, but MR after being the captain in Philly knows how to handle the utmost pressure during times like these.
I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if Mike requested or pretty much demanded to go and be with the guys.
This is GREAT news.

I think DL is giving Stevens and kampon a chance. Also giving the players a chance. Boston showed both sides need work and the blue jackets will show if this team can turn it around. So far the answer is no.

Good news, I just hope he doesn’t come back too soon, healthy Mike is what we want.

Just an idea here, but maybe the Kings should look for a new sponsor for their injury report. “Infiniti Injury” doesn’t sound too good. C’mon marketing dept!
[Reply]
I don’t want Richards to be captain UNLESS he wants/asks for that role. I want him to just concentrate on playing. I think he can be a leader without the C.
