After tonight’s game, Terry Murray provided no further update on the status of either Willie Mitchell or Mike Richards. Mitchell left the game after one shift in the first period, and Richards left after taking a high hit from Florida’s Sean Bergenheim late in the second period. Murray was asked whether either player would miss multiple games…
MURRAY: “I hope not. I don’t know that. We haven’t got a full report yet. The doctors, trainers are busy evaluating and they’ll probably let me know before I get away here tonight. We’ll have a better idea tomorrow.”
Murray was asked for his thoughts on Bergenheim’s hit on Richards…
MURRAY: “Well, the player got called for a penalty on the play. So…”
Booooo! again.

@Dominick, Why does no one on the team jump this guy? Where is Kyle Clifford this year? Please tell me I am not the only one who notice the drastic decline in fights. Only after the scrap with Frasier, did we begin to pressure against the Panthers and got it together. This team thrives on physical play/putting pucks to the net. I hope you read this Kyle.

@alex101, iono if you were watching the post game stuff but moreau was saying that he and clifford were talking him and agitating him to get him to go but he was being a pansy and declining and skating away from them and wouldnt fight. it would just cost us if clifford would just go out there and sock him in the face if he didnt fight back.

@alex101, I wouldnt be surprised if management specifically asked him to calm down a bit with the fists. Sure they want him to play physical, but he got hurt a couple times last season in fights and hes still so young they probably want him to not be soooo quick to drop the gloves. Tonight would have been an exception to the rule though.

@The Batman, Clifford has very good hands, and if he want it to he has all the potentials to be come a very good power forward. He is way to young to have his hockey carrier end because of one fight. Let him be physical and stand up for him self and his teammates, but you do not need to drop the gloves all the time.

@alex101,
It was such a tight game (in terms of scoring), that I think Cliffy was playing smart. Sure he could have dropped the gloves, but we had spent so much time on the PK already it could have cost us the game.

If you look at Bergenheim’s back leg on the replay you can see it is straight and he’s even on his toes to put his shoulders at the same height as Richards head.

I like Westgarth as much as the next guy. But he played 1 shift in the second period. 1 shift in the third period — and was a spectator to our fight (thank you Fraser).
Don’t dress a player you can’t play. At least you can trust Lewis and Richardson to actually end up on the ice at some point in the game.

@CabbagesAndKings, Actually, I thought the 4th line(Westy included) played well when they actually got shifts. The 2nd period was all spent on PK, so he got no ice time, then the 3rd they only have a 1 goal lead and Murray has trust issues with players in that situation, which really isn’t West’s fault.

Panthers are the dirtiest team I’ve seen this year. Lots of cheap shots. Amazing there were no penalties calls on Kopecky for constantly hacking Quick.

Missing these guys will hurt, but a sign of a good team is playing through injuries. The way the club played after Mike went down was awesome. They came together and played as a team. Quick was great and Kopi played a defensive period that I will not soon forget. I feel that this team needed a game like this one. Boy some heads were rolling in that game. Dirty, I think not. It was good old fashioned hockey. I didn’t like the hit that mike took, but it was hard and the Kings responded as they should of. Funny watching that dude get off the ice fast. Good win. Now let’s get ready for the Habs. They have lost 2 games, but as the viking god THOR would say, “Keep the hammer down”

This was a good test tonight…Team toughness…Do we have that? IMO, I would have liked to have seen more of a response to the hit on MR and the Kopecky nonsense around the net. I do, however, realize that the Kings were protecting a one goal lead and couldn’t afford to lose their composure. Tough win…a character builder, for sure…we see them again in Feb…I hope Bergenslime and Kopecker are in the line up then

The fact that the NHL has now completely taken the way for a player to be properly dealt with is disgusting… NHL players have to sit there and watch their players like Richards, Miller and Crosby get taken out and then wait for Shanny to slap their wrist…. WRONG so very wrong… 15 years ago, Bergenheim would have had 3 tilts to face after that… which in of itself likely stops him from giving the head shot…

More on the Richards hit from Sun-Sentinel in Florida:
“Richards didn’t return in the third period because of an upper-body injury as a result of a clean hit from Bergenheim, who led the team with seven shots. Can you say revenge for the David Booth concussion-causing hit by Richards two years ago?
‘It was almost like having the dirtiest hit on Wayne Gretzky,” Bergenheim joked about the reaction of the Kings on his hit on Richards. ‘Keep your head up. He’s a phsical player himself and has done some farily dirty stuff. Actually the Booth hit under today’s standard would probably be a pretty long suspension. It was a perfect hit right in the chest.”

@Radar, Those are rather disgusting comments on Richards. Richards been the center of plenty of controversy, but I think all his hits are clean attempts but sometimes they end with rather unfortunate results. And to be fair, would he have said the same thing to Booth, to keep his head up and basically shift the entire blame to him? Rather classless in my opinion.
The hit, itself, I didn’t think it was dirty, but an unfortunate result. However, because it ended the way it did, Bergenheim shouldn’t have chickened out and ran away. He should’ve dropped the gloves; Richards obviously wanted to get it settled on the ice, but Bergenheim ran away like a scared little brat, and then threw a cheap shot at Richards without giving him the chance to protect himself. Who’s the dirty player now? His comments piss me off more than the actual hit itself.
