Some notes from last night’s game… – The Kings got a goal from Willie Mitchell with 5:49 remaining in the third period and held on to beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Tuesday night at Scottrade Center. – The Kings had won only two of their previous 10 games in St. Louis. – The [...]
Doughty fined $2,500 for hit
The NHL has announced — news release here — that Drew Doughty has been fined $2,500 for his hit last night on St. Louis’ T.J. Oshie. That’s the maximum fine allowed under the collective-bargaining agreement. Doughty, who received a minor cross-checking penalty on the hit, will not be suspended.
Wednesday “skate” update
The Kings had a team meeting at the rink this morning, and Terry Murray said he will go with the same lineup against Dallas that he used last night, except for Jonathan Quick in goal. The Kings have not heard anything in terms of supplemental discipline for Drew Doughty, for his hit on T.J. Oshie [...]
The view from St. Louis
Nothing good can last forever. The St. Louis Blues had been 4-0-2 under new coach Ken Hitchcock, and had yet to allow more than two regulation goals under his watch, but the Kings scored three times and recorded the regulation win. The Kings had been 2-8-0 in their previous 10 games at Scottrade Center. Here’s [...]
Morning in Dallas
There is some shocking, sad news to report from Dallas. The hotel-room view of the Munters unit has been put to an end. I almost want to knock on the door of a room across the hall, just so I can wave hello to it. But here’s how life looks on the south side. The [...]

Murray postgame quotes (Nov. 22)
Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) MURRAY: “Well, it was a difficult game. St. Louis came out in the first period and they were putting a lot of pressure, really on the puck, over the top of us. We had opportunities to pass the puck on a couple of those breakouts, and we just [...]
Bernier postgame quotes (Nov. 22)
Jonathan Bernier’s postgame thoughts… (on his strong second period…) BERNIER: “Obviously with that bad first (goal), you feel like you’ve got to step up and make those big saves and give our team a chance to get back in the game, and that’s what we did. I think from when we scored that first one, [...]
Kopitar postgame quotes (Nov. 22)
Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) KOPITAR: “We had trouble coming into this building last year, and it’s not that you’re thinking about that but it seems like against them it’s always a real grind game without a lot of scoring chances. Whatever you get, you’ve got to capitalize on them. We had a [...]

Scouting the Blues
This is the second of four meetings this season between the Kings and St. Louis Blues, following the Kings’ 5-0 victory at Staples Center on Oct. 18. The Blues hit their low-water mark a couple weeks later, and since Ken Hitchcock replaced Davis Payne as coach, the Blues have a 4-0-2 record. Overall, they’re a [...]
Voynov earns praise in second stint
Today’s game with be the fourth game for Slava Voynov since his second recall from the AHL this season. Voynov, up because of the injury to Alec Martinez, had a one-goal, one-assist game at Anaheim on Thursday and has been steady in a big-minute partnership with Willie Mitchell. Voynov’s ice time did dip a bit, [...]
Kings badly in need of depth scoring
The Kings and St. Louis Blues share near-identical records (10-7-3 and 10-7-2, respectively) and a similar problem: depth scoring. The Kings’ forwards have totaled 36 goals this season, and 19 of them have come from the top-line trio of Anze Kopitar, Simon Gagne and Justin Williams. The Blues’ forwards have totaled 39 goals this season, [...]
Bernier looking to get on track
Will tonight’s game be something of a fresh start for Jonathan Bernier? Expectations were high for Bernier at the start of the season, given that he excelled in the preseason and given that Terry Murray indicated he might view Bernier as more than just a backup goalie if Bernier’s play dictated it. So far, that [...]
Jim Fox chats at noon
A reminder that Jim Fox will be taking any and all questions about the Kings and/or the NHL — and probably a wine question or two, if you have one — today at noon Pacific time at LAKings.com. The link is below Jim Fox live chat
Tuesday skate update; Bernier in
Jonathan Bernier will get the start in goal tonight — his fourth start of the season — and the Kings will go with the same line combinations they used yesterday in practice. That means Trevor Lewis and Brad Richardson will be healthy scratches. It means a third line of Kyle Clifford, Jarret Stoll and Trent [...]
Morning in St. Louis
First, a note that the Kings’ great TV analyst, Jim Fox, will be doing a live chat today at noon Pacific time at LAKings.com. The chat can be found by clicking here. Here in St. Louis, it’s a cold, rainy morning. When we arrived early yesterday evening, there was so much mist in the air [...]
Kings still looking for best from Doughty
It’s a question similar to the one a child might ask from the back seat at the start of a family vacation: is Drew Doughty there yet? In this case, “there’’ means back to the elite level he showed in 2009-10 and in parts of last season. So far, reviews have been mixed. Doughty missed [...]
Goalie plans a secret for now
In comparison with his coaching peers, Terry Murray is generally quite forthcoming in terms of announcing who his starting goalie will be. Today, though, Murray declined, and said only that Jonathan Quick and Jonathan Bernier would split the back-to-back road games against St. Louis and Dallas. Murray was asked if he takes into account a [...]
Plenty of familiarity for Kings, Blues
The Kings’ first game against the St. Louis Blues was one of their high-water marks of the season, a 5-0 victory in the Staples Center opener on Oct. 18. Much has changed for the Blues since then. After a 6-7-0 start, they fired coach Davis Payne and hired coaching veteran Ken Hitchcock. Since then, the [...]
