Scott Parse, who has played only nine games this season, will have season-ending hip surgery in the near future. Parse has a history of problems with his hips. He played five games last season before having hip surgery, returned late in the season but, those within the team said privately, was never 100-percent healthy.
Parse is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next summer. A sixth-round pick of the Kings in 2004, Parse has played 73 games over the past three seasons, with 14 goals and 16 assists.
[UPDATE: The above information about Parse's surgery was provided by general manager Dean Lombardi. The team has officially said that Parse will travel to Nashville in early December to be evaluated by a specialist, after which a determination on surgery will be made.]
Farewell buddy…

@Helvetica, $20 says he becomes someone’s 30-goal-scoring reclamation project next year. I’m calling Florida.

So … I say we get him to sign for $600,000 and keep him as OUR 30-goal scorer.

@markisonfire, Can you provide a link to him being a 30 goal scorer?
I checked, maybe you know his stats in midget.
That being said good luck SP.

@markisonfire, $20 says he never plays in the NHL again. The guy appears to have something more serious than an injury in my opinion. His hips have been an issue for years now. How many surgeries will this be? He’s finished.

@Shakes,
They still need to send someone back down when Penner comes back Thursday. I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea to send Clifford to Manchester and keep Lokti up. They need 3 lines to start scoring, and Clifford is playing likes he’s still on the 4th line.

@art,
yeah i’m not actually against that idea – i think the message to Clifford (even though he played better last game) is not so much that you’re not cutting it so we’re punishing you, but rather we need you to build up your confidence by just getting some pucks in your net and getting you back to where you were last season/post season

I knew something wasn’t right because he was at least a step faster out of the gate last season. This season he just didn’t have the speed I had come to expect.
On another note… DL, please trade OVERPAID Doughty to whoever you think will end up with the worst record. We need to get rid of his salary the same as we did with Smyth (so we could sign DD). If you do, we can keep Mitchell and sign Parise. Then we draft the next superstar with the pick we get for him. GO KINGS!

@variable,
Doughty = slightly above average. Worth “maybe” $4.5 a year best scenario (if he scores 17-20 goals). He’s not a proven talent (yet, only one good season to date). DL (or the next GM) will probably regret his contract. I think that only a scoring forward or someone like Pronger or Lindstrom are worth the kind of money doughty demanded in these hard times for the people paying his salary (us). He HAS NOT shown any of us that he even close to the talent that Pronger or Lindstrom are.

@Duckbasher, We can keep Mitchell and sign Parise without getting rid of Doughty. Stoll and Penner are both UFA’s and combined make just under 8 million in salary cap space. Let them walk and give Parise that 8 million. Parise fills in Penner’s spot. Lokti, Fraser, Lewis, and Richardson battle it out for Stoll’s spot as 3rd line Center.

@Duckbasher,
We don’t need to trade Doughty, just need him to start playing better. Unfortunately, we can say the same thing for almost everyone on the team. Lewis + Richardson + Hunter + Moreau + Penner + Loktionov + Clifford + Stoll = 3 goals.
Williams needs to have more goals than Voynov. Brown needs to have more goals than Johnson. Stoll needs to have more goals than Martinez. Clifford needs to have more goals than Greene.

@art,
Doughty is slightly above average (from what I see). Too many bonehaed moves. The only thing that places him above the average is the amount if time that he plays per game. THAT is what makes him worth more. Not his puck handling, scoring or defensive skills.
[Reply]
Very Sad. -Maybe he’ll comeback as a hardassed coach!

MAN this SUCKS! I really thought he was gonna do something this year. now I’m just hoping he makes it through all this and gets back in the league next year. I truly feel bad for Parsely. Horrible news.

Poor guy never really got his game on track. Hes got skill we saw flashes of it 2 years ago. If he hadnt been injured and was allowed to play at his natural left wing and get his game going without being bounced all over the place, I have no doubt hes at least a 25 goal per year guy, maybe more. Hopefully he can get fixed up and get a second shot at an NHL career.
[Reply]
Yeah, Scott if you’re reading this I know how disappointing and frustrating this must be. But keep the faith, work hard which I know you will. You have the tools…. now just need a healthy body to show what you can do. Best of luck.

@Munchrat, it still went in off his skate in a “distinct kicking motion.” He should have buried on the first or second whack in the first place.

@DY, If someone shoots your foot sideways, I don’t think that could hardly be called a “distinct kicking motion.” I think it’s a kicking motion if you have control of your foot. Brown clearly tripped Voynov in netting the goal, and I’d agree with Munchrat that Voynov helped by picking his foot up off the ice, hoping to get it out of the way.

Sad news
I feel bad that I have been so critical of Parse now. He has never been healthy, and has probably worked harder than any of us realize in an effort to play again. I do hope this doesn’t turn out to be career ending, and wish him the best, hopefully in a Kings jersey one day.

[Reply]
He’s too old now. Poor guy. These guys give their best years to try to live the dream. At least he played a little at the NHL level. He’s done. Scott Barney.
[Reply]
I had sensed this would go this way. This stinks for everything LAK. If Parse had been healthy, his table was really set this season (same was true last season, with a similar outcome).
Parse has a lot of game, when the body can live up to it. I’ve documented it elsewhere, Parse’s career (basically his rookie season plus a couple of small fragments) shooting percentage significantly surpasses everyone else on the LAK roster, and all but a handful of active NHLers. His goals per minutes projects to a solid 30-goal guy if serviceable for a full season.
Better than average on the forecheck, better than average playmaker. Hobey Baker finalist in college (the same year Ryan Miller didn’t win it either).
This is a sad twist of fate for Parse, LAK, and LAK fans.
All the best, Scooter.
