Martinez, Penner injury updates

There continues to be slow, steady progress for injured players Dustin Penner and Alec Martinez. Penner, who will miss his seventh consecutive game tonight with a hand injury, could possibly be cleared for full-contact practice when he sees a doctor tonight. Martinez, who has been out since a big shoulder-to-boards check against Minnesota on Nov. 12, has been practicing in a no-contact jersey. Incidentally, there has not been a single sighting of Scott Parse since his latest injury. Here’s the update from Murray on Martinez and Penner…

(on Martinez…)
MURRAY: “It’s getting better. The rehab is coming along. He’s pain-free, but it’s a matter of probably another week or so before he’s going to get a second opinion from the doctor and get the green light to start to get contact.’’

(on Penner…)
MURRAY: “He’s going to get checked tonight. He will get an X-ray done at the game tonight, from our doctor, and have an opinion to see if now he can participate in regular practice, get in with contact. We’ll see where it goes from there.’’

    “We’ll see where it goes fro there”, is that like “I’ll pass it along”?

    In all seriousness, I hope Dustin heals up and can contribute. I’d like to see him move up to the second line and let Lokti try to center the third line.

    @Michael J.,

    Agreed. Penner was starting to get his game together, and Lokti needs to be center. Although Lokti has looked better this time around than at any other time when he has been stuck on the wing.

    re: penner…

    agree…

    i mean, as fans, we really don’t have a choice with him, do we…?..he’s ours to keep, so you gotta hope he gets it together…

    @variable,

    Strategic plan for Penner:

    -Spend a couple hundy-K on a PR campaign about what great shape he is in.

    -Strategically place him on the ice for empty netter goals in a couple of games.

    -Get a decent trade for him

    Move along, -preferably forward.

    @jess,

    even if he does begin to turn it around and contributes offensively, i seriously doubt that any contending team is going to pick up half of the $4mil on a player who will be a ufa at season’s end…if someone does, that would be saying that penner is that team’s missing piece…and it’s a bit hard to believe that even being possible considering that a great team like pittsburgh already has tried to make it work with him…if he couldn’t help them and if it didn’t work out for us,(the kings being another good team with the potential to be better in most peeps eyes around the league), why would they think it would be any better for them…?

    penner’s career is not over by any means, but it definitely can be heading towards a major transition if he can’t show the kings…and the rest of the league…that he hasn’t completely lost his touch…he definitely controls his own destiny…

    So you’re saying…. We just need to assume the position? :)

    Has Parse been kidnapped by aliens? Should we be looking for him on milk cartons? Usually when a player is long-term injured, the organ-eye-zation will send out a press release of some kind. We’ve heard NOTHING!

    What could that mean?

    If he’s not coming back soon, then tell us what the dillio is!

    @Cynic,

    I don’t think the organ-eye-zation knows what to do with Parse. It sounded like his injury wasn’t that serious last year, then all of a sudden he needs surgery. I said he was ready to come back in the playoffs, but ended up being far from ready. Now the same injury seems to be plaguing him this year, with the possibility of needing more surgery. TM’s original assessment was not encouraging, and unfortunately I think Scooter’s time with the Kings, and maybe the NHL, is done.

    oops – “He said he was ready to come back, not “I said…”

    Turns out one boyfriend’s B-Day is the day before.

    Soooooo … Anyone know who I contact in Kings organ-i-zation regarding getting a Happy Birthday posting on the Jumbotron @ Staples during the game?

    Thanks.

    @IceGuy,

    I think Rich did an interview or maybe a Q&A just before the season began with the guy who handles the in-game entertainment and stuff like that.

    @IceGuy,

    If you don’t have a season ticket rep, try calling the 800 number and talking with a person to help direct you to someone. I’ve done it many times, and with many different people helping me get it done. Mostly my ticket rep, tho, but he wasn’t the only one capable by far.

    I predict Penner is gonna be like looking at a different player. The hand problem has given his knee time to get back to 100%. I’m expecting some real good things. I’m hoping he goes on the 3rd line with Stoll and Richardson. The forth line I’d like to be Clifford Fraser and Westgarth … yes I said Westgarth … imho he’s earned it.

    @KC23,

    Clifford, Fraser and Westy should be the set up for tonight’s game IMHO. Regarding Penner, I have tried repeatedly to place a cube of lead on a lily pad, but it just won’t stay put! Any ideas?

    Parse really turned out to be a bust.. 2 year extension was 2 years of him trying to stay healthy. At least I know 1
    Player that won’t be resigned this offseason. Hope Penner gets back soon on his last year I want him to be a must sign. Also lI’ve Voynov, so Marty and whiskey can take all the time they want.
