Kopitar postgame quotes (Nov. 22)

Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts…

(on the game…)
KOPITAR: “We had trouble coming into this building last year, and it’s not that you’re thinking about that but it seems like against them it’s always a real grind game without a lot of scoring chances. Whatever you get, you’ve got to capitalize on them. We had a bunch of power plays and we had that as a result of moving our feet. You’ve got to capitalize on that. At the end of the day, that’s the difference, and we’re happy to get two points.’’

(on struggling in the first 10 minutes…)
KOPITAR: “I don’t think the first period was very good overall. Yeah, we had some chances, but it wasn’t the game that we’re supposed to play. (Jonathan Bernier) kept us in it. Going into the room down 1-0, we just made sure that it was addressed, and coming out of the game for the second period, I think we were moving our feet right away. We were moving the puck and as a result they were taking penalties and we were fortunate enough to capitalize on it.’’

(on reaching the 10-goal mark…)
KOPITAR: “I’m happy with my start. It obviously could have been better. There’s still room for improvement in consistency. I’ve been saying this all along. I’m happy with the start, but it’s still a long ways until the end of the season and I just want to keep going and help the team.’’

Way to go, Kopi. Love that guy.
They played 40 minutes and got lucky. A truly great Team would’ve punished the Kings for that first period.
You could’ve heard TM again about playing 60 minutes etc…..

@puck73, Will you please explain to folks how hard it is for a NHL team to win in all 3 periods? Some folks around here just don’t get it.

@SLIM, I feel sorry for all those in the east that just have no idea just how good Kopitar is. Lets all admit it ourselves though, we didn’t appreciate Richards until he became a King. The guy is a stud that gives move wow moments several times a game. And not just the almost a goal plays, just those little plays in and around the net that are so clever.

@SLIM, Kopi has gone from third gear to fourth. The guy has overcome language and culture issues, has endured wretched teams here in LA and in itnl comp and tonights interview with Engblom was the first time I’ve seen the complete and mature Anze. Thanks Dean for Richards and Gagne. Thanks Dave for Anze and the Quick.

When will we as fans realize that this is the NHL if you think that we will outplay every team for 60 minutes, you must be high. The Kings came together and playes well enough to win. Our 3 line still is suffering. We have got to get some goals from our bottom lines. Richards makes missing Simmonds real easy. Clifford got close today, but still no cigar. Nothing on this planet is quite like watching the Kings win. Oh and what about Bernier, Best game we seen from him in a long time. We need more National TV games. Felt like the Playoffs. It’s madness being a Kings fan. Get on the plane and have a good flight to Dallas. Lrt’s get a couple more boys!!

@kinginsaltlake, I don’t expect the Kings to outplay anyone for 3 periods, but not showing up in the 1st period has been a recurring theme to this season. I believe we’re the lowest scoring team in the league in the 1st period. I’ll take a 1st period in which we play even with the other team. I just hate it when it takes us a whole period to show up for the game.

    @kinginsaltlake,

You can’t win a game in the first period, but you can certainly lose one in the first period. If the Kings played Detroit or Vancouver tonight, they’d be down 2-, or 3-0 in the second and probably would never have come back from it. Getting outplayed is one thing, not showing up at all is another.

I guess 40 minutes can get you a win…..I thought that Kopitar was missing tonight.Remember the Blues are not a top team. You play 40 minutes a night and you wont be around for long….

    puck73 Reply:

@neil, The Blues had benn unbeaten since Hitchcock took over 7 games ago. Also, St. Louis has always been a house of horrors the last 15 years or so for this organization so I will take the 2 points.

    [Reply]

    KC23 Reply:

@neil, They been playing like a top team lately though. This was their first real set back under Hitchcock. Give the Kings top to bottom some credit. They came into a tuff building with their back up goalie and got a win in regulation against a conference team they’ll likely be up against to make the playoffs.

I wish TM would let Kopi and Richards lead a practice to teach the rest of the team how to pass. That pass from Richards to Kopi awesome. Also the pass from Lokti to Richards was very good. The rest of the team really needs to improve there passing accuracy. That would lead to more one timers from the point. Instead of all the blocked shots because the reciever has to stick handle before he can shoot thus allowing the defense to get in the lane. If the Kings could improve the passing it would greatly improve the offense.
    Good game tonight boys

    Stuart Reply:

@RLane420, been saying this for some time now… cannot be a great team with bad passing.

    [Reply]

    Andrew: the second coming Reply:

@RLane420, The one game where stick to stick passing was on point was the 5-2 win. Even when we scored 5-0 on the blues it wasnt as good as that game.

@jess, I think Richards being able to just come and play hockey is alot better.. He lets his play speak and he only gives instructions on ice.. Leaders dont need a letter to be leaders.
