Jonathan Bernier’s postgame thoughts…
(on his strong second period…)
BERNIER: “Obviously with that bad first (goal), you feel like you’ve got to step up and make those big saves and give our team a chance to get back in the game, and that’s what we did. I think from when we scored that first one, we kept going and going, and we never stopped battling. That’s the reward, when you work that hard.’’
(on his point-blank save on Berglund…)
BERNIER: “He made a great play. I just kind of tried to react on it. Usually, on a 2-on-1 like that, he’s tight to you and without much speed, so it was a big move by him and I got lucky and got my glove on it.’’
Way-to-go Burns!!!! You killed it bro!

Solid game tonight Bernier. I don’t think the first one was a bad goal. Yeah he could’ve stopped it, but it was from a prime scoring area, those are tough one’s to handle.

The first goal was horrible, he was slow to react. After that, he was lights out. He made some phenomenal saves tonight to keep the Kings in it.

@DY, Yes he probably should of stopped it, but this was his first game in a while and it happened before he had a chance to get into the game. It didn’t help matters that it was off a turnover in the their own zone, which the Kings have been doing a lot of lately, not being able to get the puck out of their own zone.

@CB14, Bernier thinks it’s a bad goal, it’s a bad goal. However, it’s hard to be in his spot, and I think everyone understands–especially because he had a really great game after that. I just hope Murray doesn’t get stupid and play Quick back-to-back nights any more. Bernier isn’t the kind of backup you have to worry about playing.

@krash324, Apparently also has great reactions too and handles the puck well, stays upright more often than a “reactionary” goalie. His style makes me feel comfortable watching him.
[Reply]
Wow, if he can play like that we’ll have quite a 1 2 punch in the net. Nice position to be in for sure.

The Kings need to give Bernier some more work. It is hard to be sharp sitting the bench as much as he has this year. Also, you need to keep Quick rested for the playoff run and the playoffs.

We know Bernier is a nice goalie, we just don’t see enough of him. *Hint*

Perfect opportunity to put Bernier right back in goal against Dallas. Build some confidence and get the boys to play for him.

@Kingsfanone, I agree, Bernier played a great game and looked very solid. If quick had won like that, he would be playing again. Bernier never gets rewarded like quick does. We should get both goalies rolling. And be able to throw either quick or Bernier in against any team, we have two good goalies. Let’s let em both show it

@#unclewillyson, One of them has to be your starter, and one of them has to WANT to be your starter. This makes a guy like Bernier better. Besides, you seem to have forgotten that Quick EARNED being starter by being better in preseason and carrying that into the season. If he starts sucking, and he hasn’t really come close, maybe Bernier will get more nods (I think he should get a few more anyway) and will EARN being starter. By the way, he let in a bad goal. He played a good game, and better as the game went on, which can be expected of your backup (not to be a wall at the start.)

Big congratulations to JB. Loved it that he did not fold after the first goal by STL. Hope TM will give him more chance to play.

The good news is that the Kings have arguably the best two goalie combination in the NHL. The bad news is it is going to come to an end, probably at the end of this season, if not before the trade deadline. Bernier is just too good not to be a No. 1 goalie for some team, just not this one. That being the case, I hope the Kings get great value for him in a trade.

@Forum67,
Neither is going anywhere because the goalie position is DL’s most prized position on the team, he’s made serious moves to strengthen the team in the hopes of taking a serious run at a Stanley Cup, and he isn’t about to trade away 1/2 of the best goalie tandem in the league before the playoffs, and our run at a cup. Every hockey analyst out there considers the Kings goalies the deepest 1, 2 punch in goal in the entire league.

@Dominick, I’d like to see a game where Boston’s Rask takes on Bernier. Best “#2s” in the league face off. Then we can draw conclusions.

@ChiTownKingsFan,
I’d like to see a Cup Game 7 final with Bernier on one end and Quick on the other.
Both deserve it.
Oh, and the Kings win game 7!
People complain when Quick gets taken out for JB to play and then JB plays a solid game and people wonder why we dont see more of him. Fire Bailey!
[Reply]
It does make you wonder. Just how good could Bernier be with consistent play? You know I’ve been on his bandwagon since Day 1, and have always felt he’s a special once in a lifetime Brodeur type superstar goalie. That’s not saying Quick isn’t good, he’s great. But with consistent play, I think Bernier wins the team playoff series. Quick has already demonstrated that the jury is out when the season gets close to the playoffs and in the playoffs. He has yet to prove he has what it takes. How good can Bernier be? Will we ever know? With games like yesterday, he deserves a chance. Split the starts, and let’s see what happens. If he’s traded before we do know, that would be horrific.

@Poorman,
Dude, what do you think about putting Bernier back in net against Dallas to build some confidence in not only Bernier, but the team in him also? Sure he could lose, but I think the extra work and confidence if he wins goes a /omg way to maturing Bernier.
Your thoughts?

@Poorman, bernier 2-2 with 3.03 Goals against and .885 save %
Quick 9-5 with 2.08 GAA and 931 Save %
No matter who you are, everyone starts as a backup and once bernier is a consistent backup he will probably be traded. I think Quick has proved himself better than good enough to be kings starter for a long time

@jason, Disagree. I want to see him get some consistent net time. When you see him play like he did against St. Louis, that isn’t a fluke. That’s world Class Skill Level. Better than Quick.

@Poorman, Quick has been at the top of the nhl every season so far in a few categories. Berniers performance against st louis was definitely not world class. He even admitted he let in a softie

@jason, Agreed, he’s starter for a reason. When his game drops as Bernier’s improves, there might be a reason to swap them…but this “better than Quick” talk should be reserved for when it’s TRUE. FWIW, Bernier shouldn’t have been dissed in the last couple back-to-backs, and I’m glad Murray gave him his correct spot this time.
Best game you’ve played this Season Bernie. This is what we’ve been waiting to see from you. Well played. You gave us the chance to win hands down. Some real fantastic saves.
