    [Reply]

    blackthrone Reply:

@Dominick, The cycle game has looked a lot better recently. The first line has had a pretty good concept of it throughout the year IMO and it’s not surprising that te Richards line is getting it better now…hmm wonder if it has anything to do with a Lokti instead of a Penner?

    [Reply]

    Dominick Reply:

@blackthrone, Yea, Kopi’s line has had free rein all season long. TM just recently opened up the other lines. I think he started implementing it after the Edmonton game, but it took a while to see results.

On Penner: I think the changes came before Penner got injured, and he took them right away. He only had a couple of games before we saw a change in his game, but it improved, then he got injured. The injury wasn’t his fault (just unfortunate timing), and don’t be surprised when he comes back and is a different player.

Of course I’m always the optimist, but don’t be surprised.

You have to give him credit, he drops the gloves when there’s a reason to. Last night the whacks to the back of his legs deserved having him drop his gloves. Not like the way Westy does it… those silly staged fights after face-off. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Westy. Some things to build upon over the last couple games:

-SOG are great, keep on shooting the puck
-Cycle and forecheck looking much better than earlier on in the season
-Voynov is playing far too well to be sent down – I think you need to take a chance on Drewiske on waivers, let Martinez sub for injuries
-I really like the reads on pinching in the offensive zone by the defensemen right now
-Better breakout and neutral zone play
-Richards and Kopi are playing well

    Things to improve:
-Still very little offensive production from the 3rd and 4th lines, but Stoll’s line was looking a little better in some stretches
-The 1-4 neutral zone trap that Murray opted for was played horribly bad – very porous, way too much speed entering the zone
-Defensemen are allowing too much space at the blueline – I’d like to see them make a conscious effort to stand some guys up at the blue line
-Quick is taking a lot of contact – need some more scrums after the whistle to send a message
-Still some dumb penalties here and there
-Loktionov looking a little lost out there on wing, but I like the upside on that line

    [Reply]

    Stuart Reply:

    @He Shoots, He Scores,
“Quick is taking a lot of contact – need some more scrums after the whistle to send a message” I’ve been watching this closely lately and he HAS been taking a lot of abuse and complaining to the refs a lot more than I’ve seen him do, not to mention taking extra jabs at the opposition too… I worry that if something were to really go down would the rest of the boys pull a Buffalo or actually get in there and get dirty? A nice sticking-up session would go a long way in forging a strong team unity.

What a great problem to have on defense.

Greene – has been playing well going back to the end of last season. I think he is a leader in the locker room and we don’t want to disturb that. You need this guy on the PK. His 15 minutes a game are well worth what he is getting paid.

Scuds and Mitchell you need to win a cup…so don’t even think about moving any one of these guys.

It really comes down to who is most productive and who you can afford to trade or lose on waivers.

VV – Just keeps getting better and better…every GM in the league would love to have this guy.
Martinez – Pretty damn good player…would hate to lose him
DD2 – He’s played one game? You need a guy like this to ride the pine and break him out only in case of emergency.

I think you wind up packaging Martinez and Penner if VV continues to improve and Penner doesn’t, for a solid LW to play with Richards and Brown. Lokti is good but he is definitely playing out of position…I hope the kid proves me wrong becasue there are no center spots open and Stoll isn’t going anywhere!

I really like what I’m seeing right now, would love to see a little more 5-5 scoring. Please don’t change anything yet and lets continue to see where this takes us. Playing the guys who make the most money isn’t always the best decision. GKG

Keep the defensive pairings as is! Loving JJ and Dewey on top pairing as it should be. Does Lombardi now try to move DD2? I can’t see VV going back down again. How could he? As Dick Vitale would say “He’s a PTPer baby!”
