Kopitar postgame quotes (Nov. 17)

Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts…

(on the wild third period…)
KOPITAR: “It was back and forth. We got a big (goal), Slava got us a big one right off the bat. Then it’s almost natural to pull back a little bit, and they came at us. After they tied it up, we said, `We’ve got to get back at it,’ and we pulled it off tonight.’’

(on holding on for the regulation win…)
KOPITAR: “Obviously you don’t want to give up any points. At the end of the year, the three-point games are going to be all over place, so you don’t want to give up points if not necessary. Last night was a big win for us, and then coming in here, we knew we obviously had a good chance of winning. We’ve always played pretty good in this building, so we just came out and got the job done.’’

(on the scoring balance…)
KOPITAR: “That’s the scoring we need, the secondary scoring. Sometimes guys like me and Brownie don’t score any goals, but we get production from other guys. That’s when you win games.’’

(on what Gagne brings to the team…)
KOPITAR: “He’s such a great player, and he’s been in the league forever. He’s really responsible on the ice, especially offensively. He makes plays everywhere and he definitely helps us.’’

    Ha, I was at the game and the poor Ducky fan next me was silenced by my aggravating anti-duck comments (in addition to the stellar play by the Kings). I was as relentless as the Kings were after the Ducks tied it up. It was fun game to be at!

    @Cry Baby, Being at the Honda Center when the Kings play is always a joy. The best part was hearing the spontaneous chants of “Let’s go Kings!”.

    @cdawgg,

    He’s a King for life! By the time his contract expires, the Red Wings will hopefully be in a full rebuild. I know we’ve been saying this for years, but they really are old. Lidstrom won’t be there, Holmstrom won’t be there, etc.

    Stay forever, Kopi!

    Some of us will be getting together before the game to hang out all day in LA, and go to the practice facility, and have drinks and stuff. Get a hold of puck73 on Saturday to see about hanging out with us.

    I really think the team is finally starting to put it all together. And what can you say about the Philly connection? Richards is an absolute beast all over the ice. Thank goodness the Richards rumors in Philly took hold and Holmgren had so much confidence in Claude Giroux, otherwise this supremely talented player would still be plying his trade for the Flyers. And the best part is we have him long term.

    And the supposed gamble that Lombardi took in signing Simon Gagne is paying huge dividends so far. The guy is just a pure goal scorer. And he has a little edge in his game as well.

    And Voynov is going to force Lombardi to either not re-sign Mitchell or package Mitchell or Greene in a trade. I just don’t think there is any way not to have Voynov as one of the top six defensemen on this team. In fact, with the way he is playing it will be even more difficult to send him down this time than it was before.

    And as well as Quick is playing I hope TM doesn’t let himself all into overplaying him again. I thought it was very interesting that despite the fact that Hiller absolutely stole a point for the Ducks last night that Carlyle went with Ellis (probably because of his previous record against the Kings). It starts to worry me when TM plays Quick on back to back game situations.

    Dominick Reply:

    @Forum67,
    No need to worry about Quick. He has only played 4 games in a row, and is starting to find his groove again. When he’s started 10 or 15 games in a row, then worry. Bernier will be taking the reins in at least 1 of the next couple of games, so Quick is no way near being overplayed yet, or will be this season (unless Bernier has an injury).

    @Dominick, I think maybe this Saturday JB will be in. and if not then than the next game

    brian spain Reply:

    @Caleb C, Why can”t Quick play 70 games, all the top goalies do. Its called being in a groove. How do you think guys like ROY and Broeduer won so many games, cuz they play almost every game. What happened last time he didn’t play when he was hot. They went into a tailspin. quickie all the way, unless he says he needs a break.

    Shotongoal Reply:

    @Caleb C, Quick will play Sat and Bernier will play in STL in the first of back-back. Quick will then face DAL the next night in a division game. Why would you not want them to play their #1 against DET?

    Shotongoal Reply:

    @Forum67, Mitchell’s not going anywhere this year , are you serious? Do NOT forget that he is the best stay at home Dman on this team. Teams do not win the Cup without this type of player on the blueline.

    LittleRhody Reply:

    @Shotongoal, Agree 100%. They need to re-sign him. I like the way he’s been shooting the puck more so far this season.

    Forum67 Reply:

    @Shotongoal,

    I fully expect both Mitchell and Greene to be with the Kings the rest of this season. However, barring him getting injured, Voynov will be one of the Kings top six defensemen next season. So someone among this season’s top six defensemen will have to be moved. I seriously doubt it be Scuds or Cactus Jack. And clearly it won’t be Doughty. So that only leaves Mitchell, Greene or Martinez and I doubt that it will be Martinez.

    @Shotongoal,

    By the way, my prediction is that Voynov, not Doughty, will end up being the Kings franchise defenseman.

    “We’ve played pretty good in this building.” Did you hear/see all the kings fans? I could have sworn I heard roaring when the Kings cleared the puck down the ice on the PK. Hayworthless was pretty distraught. It was hilarious. I hate that man…with a passion. Although his broadcast partner (whoever he is) seems to try and keep it a bit more objective and balance out hayworthless, but in the end, hayworthless got his worthless 2 cents in.

    Ian Reply:

    @Thisistheyear, That was his biggest goal in a while. There isn’t one center in the league I would trade him for.

    If not for him we would be talking about the B.S penalty on Moreau or the fact that the ducks can’t even get there lights to work.

    This is the year that Kopi has mixed outstanding defense, world class skill, and a ‘screw you this puck is going in attitude’.

    I can’t wait to see him in the playoffs this year!

    Datacloud Reply:

    @Ian, I agree. He’s at that stage when he can score at will when the chips are down and he’s given the opportunity. Last night’s goal was 100% hunger and determination. I would love to see him reach the 100-point plateau and win the Selke he deserves.
