Before today’s morning skate, here’s a look at Tip-A-King through the eyes of Colin Fraser, who got handed a microphone by Kings Vision with the instruction to capture some sights and sounds. Anyone else feel as though Fraser is starting to fill a bit of that Derek Armstrong-type role for the Kings, both on and off the ice? Not completely, but maybe a bit… Also, as a bonus, a new “plays of the week” feature from Kings Vision follows…
Wow, the Kings are becoming “AL Fraser, All the time.” Not bad for a player who was included in a deal with the intent to cut him for cap space. Keep it up Frazz and GKG!!

I’m thinking he’s the new Frolov… you know, #24, name starts with an ‘Fr’ …so all you people out there with Fro jerseys, all you have to do is replace 4 letters and viola, a cool new jersey!

The Kings may not be happy about that idea. They’d sell less jerseys!

@DesertKing, Yeah, I was thinking the same thing yesterday. A lot of exposure for Fraser. Of course he is on pace for 32.5 goals if he plays the rest of the games.

I like the Armie reference… If he could be to this King team, half of what Armie was/brought, then we’re sitting pretty for a throw in roster spot! Where is Armie now? I always liked his game and enthusiasm!!

@Stuart, Back in 2000 I played in a pickup game at the Foothills Ice Arena in Lakewood. Armstrong was playing that same day. He is a classy guy and schooled me a couple times while I was playing D. He even laid a body on me when I decided to go end to end. I looked at him and he smiled. He said “good play, but not this time.” I of course had to pick myself up off the ice. We had a nice conversation after the pickup game in the locker room. He, like several other players train in CO.

i am so glad that the Kings gave him a chance to play and show what he can do. You never know what a person will do when given the opportunity of a lifetime. Im glad hes on the team and i hope he continues to contribute and play well. GKG!

You gotta feel good for Fraser. I mean he was essentially a consolation prize from Edmonton, and he’s here making the most of an opportunity. I know it’s only 2 games, but he looks really comfortable in that 4th line center spot, and unlike Richie, Lewis, and Lokti, that is the role he is expected to play.
Maybe the Hockey Gods are trying to make up for the whole Penner thing…

That’s weird. It’s not like was skating all that hard or doing any kind of drills. He didn’t even have a puck on his stick. It didn’t even seem like Murray was watching him half the time.

@wavesinair,
The skating part wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. Circle around, 1rst blue line and back, 2nd blue line and back, 3rd blue line and back. Penner didn’t seem to be required to skate hard, and wasn’t doing anything that gave any indication that he was working on anything in particular. TM was watching, and I couldn’t hear the instruction. I am curious to know exactly what they were looking at there. Doesn’t seem like anyone was working on any system flow, or positioning issues either.

wavesinair Reply:

@Dominick,
There was no instruction at all. That was one of the strange things about it. I figured with TM on the ice, there might be something more to it other than simple conditioning.
I think Matt Greene might be relieved of his comedic team duties very soon. Can’t wait for the battle of the Christmas Specials. Dude is hilarious and great on camera. Not shabby on the ice either, it was nice to get the chance to see him play. (Lewis has to be a bit worried).
‘Face Time Baybeh’ vs ‘Pale is the New Tan’.
One request to Kings Vision: MORE spots with Frazz and Greener, a mic and a camera. These are GOLD!

The remote interview is the problem. Having someone down on the ice is the way to go. They need a 3rd person to do it though.
ok now we know how Penner really hurt his hand, it was Air Hockey, not Kings hockey.

fun ‘digs’ by Fraser, especially the blast at Brown’s teeth.
saw comments in an earlier thread suggesting that Brown’s goal against Minnesota should make his carrer highlight reel. It was nice, but he’s done better several times. The best candidate for #1 clip on a Brown highlight complilation wouldn’t involve him scoring a goal, but pulling off the most impressive primary assist you’ll ever see. End to end rush through the entire opposing team to deposit the puck perfectly on the blade of Stoll’s stick for a goal mouth tap-in your grandmother couldn’t have missed. Brown made the pass while finally being checked to the ice at the side of the net. Stoll will never forget it, it was #20 for him last season (I doubt that’ll happen again). You have to see the pass in slo-mo at the end of the clip to appreciate how perfect it was. But the rink-long rush was awesome in it’s own right. Like Fox says while calling it, “number 4, Bobby Orr.”
enough set up, it’s too cool. doesn’t get any better. hope the link works:
