Morning reading: `Flyers West,’ GM meetings

The Kings will be on the ice for practice in about an hour, so here are a couple things until then…

First, the team “Flyers West” has been coined to describe the Kings, because of all the folks in Los Angeles who have spent time in Philadelphia as players, draft picks, coaches and management members, or some combination thereof. The list includes Dean Lombardi, Ron Hextall, Terry Murray, John Stevens, Mike Richards, Simon Gagne, Colin Fraser and Justin Williams. So, what is it about the Flyers? LAKings.com chatted with team legend Bobby Clarke about the team’s culture and also got his thoughts on Lombardi, Hextall, Murray and Stevens…

Also, the league’s general managers are meeting in Toronto today. The below article, from the New York Times, touches on what the GMs will be discussing, including possible regulation of the 1-3-1 trap, the idea of no-touch icing and head-checking and boarding penalties. Realignment will also be discussed, but that’s a matter for the Board of Governors, who meet next month.
