The Kings have now officially put Alec Martinez on injured reserve and called up Slava Voynov from Manchester of the AHL. Martinez was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Saturday. Voynov had two goals and one assist in eight games with the Monarchs, to go with two goals and one assist in five games with the Kings, when he filled in for injured defenseman Drew Doughty last month.
What a surprise! I’M SHOCKED!!!!!!

Just wow! Me thinks there is some fun LA Kings hockey in our future.
[Reply]
Glad to see VV get another chance, although I wish it wasn’t at the expense of an injury to Martinez. He had just started to play well offensively again. I wonder what the defensive pairing’s will be? VV is a right handed shot and so is Greene, mabye VV can play the left side. I think if he can play the left side with Greene, it opens up the possibility of trading one of our d-men even more. I’m not saying it will happen, just that it gives DL more options if he chooses to make some moves.

@Dominick, Exactly… that’s why I’ve been a curmudgeon today. Nice news to hear the kids have been brought up and will be given a chance with the Big Club, but for people to think that these two alone will bring the Kings to the promised land is a little lofty as far as expectations go. And to set yourself up for a huge letdown if things don’t go their way or the Kings way. Not too high, not too low.
If Voynov can get two goals and an assist in every game, then maybe we have something to talk about. Otherwise, just go into the rest of the season with an open mind…
GO KINGS GO!

I feel bad for Martinez. He was finally starting to find his game, which is heavy shots and being a big part of the powerplay. Having said that, I feel comfortable that we have Voynov to step up and take over. I am excited that Penner is injured (as bad as that sounds). I agree with Barry over on hockeybuzz, there is no better nickname for him than The Cooler. He gets hurt and Brown and Richards have an amazing game. Lokti will get a great chance to help out the team. Huge 2 games coming up…GKG!

I have never been a Kings fan when our defense was so deep that we could weather an injury. It is such a nice feeling. I’m even excited for Voynov to prove himself despite the loss of Martinez.
As for Loktionov, he IS our future Line 3 centerman. Stoll’s contract is up with only 1 goal in 17 games. Welcome aboard, and may Penner never come back.
As a side note, Drew Doughty is not playing his best hockey, and he is STILL 7th on the team in scoring having played 2/3 of the amount of games as the top 6 scorers. I can’t wait for him to get really rolling!

The Russians Are Coming, The Russians are coming!!!
Sorry, but I can’t help think this is a major upgrade. Lets skip the hype, we’ve all seen what these guys can do. It isn’t a knock against either player but Penner has done little since coming to LA, that’s reality. Lokti is fast, a great passer and playmaker and he has a wicked shot. Voynov, well…I was REALLY disappointed when he got sent down. Personally, this is what I’ve been waiting for; now we have three truly talented offensive defensemen, nothing against Amart, it’s just that Slava is by far a better playmaker, has a great shot and is faster. He takes the puck into the zone better and can carry the play far better than Martinez.
This is a great experiment coming at a crucial time for the Kings. Except for the game against the Wild, the Kings have been flat lately. This is the moment that we’ve been waiting for. Lets see what these young Russians bring to the Kings. Expectations are high but these guys can flat out play.

@Moondoggie,Regarding Penner I really want him to succeed. what a waste of body size if he does not play a lot better soon. I mean how long or how many games it will take? these are not tryout games. We are loosing points and are 9th place today. Lombardi has to swallow his pride and send him for more “practice” games in Manchester. I mean he has to admit that his decisions can’t be right all the time or it will take more time to find out if he is right or wrong. In the mean time he has to be quick sending or recalling players. For example if Voynov plays like a Norris candidate or becomes Kris Letang of the Kings in the next few games(I am dreaming) will Lombardi send him back to minors again? A lot of people here think we have the best defense in the league. I agree only partially: we have best defense as a team but not the best defensmen. We lost a lot of games because of poor defensive plays. If Voynov is better than any other Dman now then he must be replaced by Voynov. No more this BS “waver” excuses to send him back. Is it better to loose more games and not making playoffs or loosing less wanted player to another team?
(I am from Russia too and sorry my English no good)
[Reply]
A. Martinez on the IR, SUDDENLY, after knowing he played the WHOLE GAME yesterday. At the same time I know (some) players can play through pain/being hurt. Whatever though, at least Voynov is back-up w/Kings.
