Game 16: Canucks 3, Kings 2 (FINAL)

For the third time in four nights, it’s Kings hockey, this time against the Vancouver Canucks. All the action is on Fox Sports West and on 1150-AM and affiliates, and all the game updates will be here as well…

THIRD PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Luongo.
Canucks 3, Kings 2: With their net empty, the Kings made it a 3-2 game with 1:10 remaining, when Mike Richards’ long-range one time shot deflected off the skate of a Canucks defender and into the net. Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty got assists.

SECOND PERIOD
In goal: It’s still Quick vs. Luongo.
Canucks 3, Kings 1: The Kings got on the scoreboard with a power-play goal with 9:30 remaining in the second period. Jack Johnson faked a slap shot, then passed to Drew Doughty. With Dustin Brown running traffic in front, Doughty’s one-time shot went off the corner of the crossbar and into the net to pull the Kings within 3-1. Anze Kopitar also got an assist.
End of period: The Canucks had a goal disallowed in the final minute because of goalie interference. The Kings scored the period’s only goal but were outshot 14-12 and went 1-for-3 on the power play.

FIRST PERIOD
In goal: It’s the Kings’ Jonathan Quick against the Canucks’ Roberto Luongo.
Canucks 1, Kings 0: A disastrous first six minutes for the Kings included a five-minute major penalty to Trevor Lewis and a cross-checking penalty to Drew Doughty. The Canucks scored on the ensuing 5-on-3 advantage, as Sami Salo took a pass from Daniel Sedin and beat Quick with a shot that went in off the post. Ryan Kesler also got an assist as the Canucks took a 1-0 lead at the 6:51 mark.
Canucks 2, Kings 0: Still on the power play, thanks to the major penalty, the Canucks took a 2-0 lead at the 7:33 mark. Andrew Ebbett carried the puck down low and attempted a centering pass, but the puck deflected off the skate of Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell and into the net. Cody Hodgson and Alexander Edler got assists on the play.
Canucks 3, Kings 0: After the Kings failed to score on a power play, the Canucks pushed their lead to 3-0 with 4:18 remaining in the first period. Aaron Rome wound up for a slap shot, with traffic in front of the net, and the high shot beat Quick just as he raised his glove. Assists went to Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin.
End of period: The Kings were outshot 12-3 in the period, with the only highlight coming in a final-minute fight between Kyle Clifford and Dale Weise.
