Murray postgame quotes (Nov. 7)

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the change between the first and second periods…)
MURRAY: “I’ve seen this thing happen so many times when you take a bad penalty in the offensive zone. You get lazy, you reach in, you take a careless penalty in a 1-0 game. You bring the referees into the game, and there is no need to do that. (The Sharks) built some momentum. Now we take another penalty and it’s a 5-on-3 after that. They are a good hockey club that rely on their power play. That’s why they’re a good team, and they fed off it.’’

(on whether the Kings got away from their structure in the wide-open start…)
MURRAY: “Not at all. I thought everything was good. At the end of the first period, I think the shots were 14-8 or so. The structure was good. We had a couple really good looks. We had a breakaway. We had all the reasons to just keep building on the momentum. There’s no question that they probably heard it from their coach, to pick it up and get going. They came out, at the start of the second, and got some plays at our net, but there was no danger until we brought it on ourselves.’’

(on worrying about player confidence in this skid…)
MURRAY: “I’m not going to worry about the confidence. You cannot get careless. If you’re going to be a good team in this league, you’ve got to make sure you’re playing hard, you’re competing and playing the right way. If you’re going to be careless, then you’re going to pay a penalty. I’ll say this. Before the fourth goal, Rob Scuderi is lucky he didn’t break his leg. That’s how players end their careers. I’ve seen players end their career that way. That’s why the NHL talks about the automatic icing. That is a penalty. That is embarrassing that that’s not called. That was deliberate.’’
